Fazit: At $2,399, the Qosmio G35-AV600 is pricey, but this is no ordinary notebook. Armed with a dual-core processor, lots of hard drive space, and more multimedia features than you'll find in any other laptop, this upgrade is hands-down the best desktop replacement/entertainment center combo you can buy.

Fazit: In a nutshell, the Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV600 has the most impressive set of A/V features to date. And it's competitively priced—$600 cheaper than the G25 ($2,999) when it was first introduced. It may not dominate the others in its class in performance, but you're not purchasing this system to kick butt in Halo. For a Media Center notebook, it's about as close to ideal as I could ask for.

The bad: Subpar gaming performance; display resolution could be higher; small touch pad and mouse buttons; no separate number pad; no touch pad on/off button; bulky and heavy, even for a desktop replacement. Fazit: Toshiba's Qosmio remains the premier multimedia entertainment desktop replacement notebook. As if the first Qosmio Windows Media Center Edition notebooks didn't kick enough multimedia booty with instant-on TV, a slot-fed DVD burner, awesome Harman/Kardon speakers and a cool volume dial, the latest Qosmio adds hi-fi sound.

Fazit: Watching TV and DVDs on the Qosmio remains an unalloyed pleasure. The display produces the purest blacks of any of the units in this roundup, yet still does a good job with bright colors and brightly lit scenes. Though the screen has a glossy bright surface and shows reflections from local light sources, they're not as noticeable as on the Sony. Moving images show only a few occasional artifacts, but again nothing that bothers the eye too much. As a personal DVD player, the Qosmio worked best for us overall.

Fazit: If you're considering a Toshiba Qosmio as your next computer, it is a safe bet you want every multimedia feature available without much compromise. The G35-AV650 we reviewed here has every connection one might want, dual hard drives, dual core processor, competitive NVIDIA GPU, and of course the elusive HD-DVD drive. Few notebooks have even been announced with HD-DVD, much less which ones are even available with them at this time. If you want cutting edge features with every multimedia option conceivable, then the Qosmio lineup is right up your alley.

NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300: Nvidia Geforce Go 7300 ist eine leicht verbesserte GeForce Go 6200 mit leicht unterdurchschnittlicher Leistung. Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden, sonst muss man schon drastische Einschränkungen bei den Spiel-Einstellungen hinnehmen. Für Büroanwendungen und zum Surfen reicht es problemlos.

Intel Core Duo: Intel Core Duo (Pentium M-Nachfolger), ein Doppelkernprozessor mit sehr gutem Verhältnis von Leistung zu Stromverbrauch. Die 2 MB L2 Cache werden gemeinsam genutzt. Die maximale Leistungsaufnahme von 31 Watt ist nur 4 W mehr als beim Pentium M. Aufgrund geringen Stromverbrauchs eignet sich Core Duo auch für Subnotebooks. Ausserdem unterstützt er nun auch SSE3 Befehle. Bei Anwendungen, die für Multiprozessoren designed wurden, kann die Leistung fast verdoppelt ausfallen verglichen mit Pentium M.

T2400: T2400 ist ein Core Duo mittlerer Geschwindigkeit und eignet sich gut für Büroanwendungen und zum Surfen.

17.1": 17 Zoll Displaygrösse ist ein seit 2006 häufig angebotenes Standardformat für Desktop-Replacements. Es gibt 17-Zoller ausschließlich im 16:10 Format.

Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem. DTR sind hauptsächlich für stationären Schreibtischeinsatz vorgesehen, wo Gewicht und Energiehunger egal sind.

4.5 kg: Dieser Laptop ist sehr schwer. Deshalb wird diese Gewichtsklasse vor allem von Desktop Replacements mit 19 Zoll Display bevölkert, denn selbst für 17 Zoll DTR ist das bereits zu gewichtig.

Toshiba: Toshiba ist einer der grössten internationalen Notebook-Hersteller. Für Toshiba-Modelle gibt es viele Testberichte. Die Gesamtbewertungen deutschsprachiger Magazine fallen sehr positiv aus, das Preis/Leistungs-Verhältnis wird eher durchschnittlich beurteilt. Bei den Teilbewertungen Ausstattung und Display schneidet Toshiba ebenfalls gut ab.
