Dell Latitude Laptops sind in der 14-Zoll Kategorie mittlerweile schon Veteranen. Da der Trend bei Notebooks zunehmend in Richtung Mobilität geht, ist es gut zu wissen, dass es Geräte gibt, die dem Trend zwar folgen, aber dabei nicht auf Leistung und Arbeitskomfort verzichten. Mit einem Einstiegspreis ab 579 Euro (zuzüglich MwSt.) ist das Gerät sehr preisgünstig zu bekommen.

Tradition verpflichtet. Der Latitude E5420 Essential aus der Business-Riege von Dell macht seinem Namen alle Ehre. Der 14-Zoller ist ein grundsolides Notebook mit matten, wertigen Oberflächen und Spitzen-Eingabegeräten. Die Finger fliegen mit Leichtigkeit und Zielsicherheit über Touchpad und Tasten. Dabei verwindet es der Office-User gern, dass nur ein Core i3-2310M Prozessor unter der Haube werkelt.

The configuration we received will set you back a whopping Rs. 82,747 including taxes and delivery. This puts it in competition with the Lenovo X1 we recently reviewed, which also sold for a similar price. Given a choice between the two, I’d have to go with the Dell Latitude and here’s why. The X1 may be slim and light and have a slightly better keyboard but the heating issue is a big setback in my book. It’s impossible to use the laptop on your lap for a long time which means you’ll have to find a desk or a table to use it on. The Dell Latitude doesn’t have this problem and although it's a bit chunkier, it's just as tough and durable and looks better, as well. It’s not perfect though. Dell could have easily included USB 3.0, an IPS panel for the screen and an option to add a graphics card for this price.

Dell's software bundle for its business customers is minimal: You get the starter edition of Roxio Creator and CyberLink's PowerDVD for use with the DVD burner, as well as a couple of network-connection utilities (including the NetWaiting dial-up modem utility, which seems odd since this configuration had no dial-up modem) and Dell's backup, recovery, and data-protection tools.

The Dell Latitude E5420 may not have the same sleek lines and rugged features as the E6320 or E6420, but an incredibly solid build quality, good traditional keyboard, antiglare screen and low starting prices combine to offer a reliable business notebook that won’t break the bank. The ability to work with other Latitude E Family docks and batteries is a big plus, and hopefully your IT guy will spring for a dock and a set of external speakers for your desk.

Intel HD Graphics 3000: In Sandy Bridge Prozessoren (Core ix-2xxx) integrierte Grafikkarte von Intel. Stärkere GT2 genannte Version mit 12 Execution Units (EUs). Je nach Modell mit unterschiedlichen Taktraten (350-650MHz) und TurboBoost Unterstützung (900-1350MHz).

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.
