It's not particularly portable, but the Dell Precision M2800 is certainly an impressive mobile workstation. Solidly built and equipped with high-end components, we have just a couple of niggles: the touchpad is too small for our liking, and the top-of-the-range model's 128GB SSD should be at least 256GB.

While the Dell Precision M2800 has the benchmark scores to back up its performance claims, it's just a good, not great, mobile workstation. The screen has flaws, battery life is short, and it's bulky and heavy. This workstation is more of a system that will work fine on your desk with an external monitor, and one you can grab for the occasional meeting rather than as a daily companion. The current Editors' Choice HP ZBook 14 holds on to its top spot for mobile workstations, thanks to its easy serviceability, a weight under 4 pounds, and a screen that is much easier on the eyes.

Das Dell Precision M2800 ist ein Einstiegsnotebook von Dells mobiler Workstation-Serie. Das Gehäuse ist robust, alle Teile passen fest zusammen und die beweglichen Teile ist auch gut gefertigt. Leider legt das Dell Precision M2800 nicht viel Wert auf Design und sieht daher nicht so elegant aus wie andere aktuell verfügbare Laptops.

Wie man es sich von einer Workstation erwartet, bietet das Dell Precision M2800 zahlreiche Schnittstellen, nämlich 3 USB-Ports, einen HDMI-Port, einen Ethernet-Port, einen Kartenleser, ein optischer Laufwerk und eine VGA-Schnittstelle. Abgesehen von kabelgebundener Kommunikation unterstützt das Dell Precision M2800 802.11 ac WiFi sowie Bluetooth 4.0.

Der matte FullHD Bildschirm nutzt TN-Technologie. Die Auflösung ist nicht besonders hoch, doch aufgrund der hohen Helligkeit kann er gut im Freien eingesetzt werden. Der Prozessor kann vom Benutzer ausgewählt werden. Für niedrigere Ansprüche ist der Intel Core i5-4200U ausreichend, für höhere Ansprüche kann ein Intel Core i7-4610M verwendet werden.

Insgesamt ist das Dell Precision M2800 eine mobile Workstation zum vernünftigen Preis. Die Spezifikation ist mittelmäßig und das Design ist nicht großartig, doch das Gerät ist robust und kann hohe Leistung bieten.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
