The Precision 5690 is a true workstation despite its compact dimensions and low weight for a 16-incher. Since such a device is meant for long tasks, the performance here is key. The Core Ultra 7 165H maintains a 3.06 GHz / 2.50 GHz P and E core clocks and the core of the NVIDIA RTX 2000 Ada Generation GPU sustains a stable ~ 90W TGP. That’s more than enough for adequate performance no matter the load. The memory may be soldered but you can order this device with up to 64GB of LPDDR5x RAM. Well, if you need more memory you have to take a look for a machine with SODIMMs. On the other hand, you get two M.2 slots and Dell has a preapplied thermals pad on both sides of the SSDs.

I have to say the Dell Precision 5690 is an incredible laptop. It’s stacked with powerful components, crafted to help you design the next architectural wonder, a futuristic sports car, or the next top-selling AAA video game. Or if you’re a photographer or cinematographer, the laptop can carve through those big editing projects like a hot knife through butter. And when you’re not working hard, use that beautiful OLED display and punchy speakers to watch some of your favorite movies. Throughout the course of my testing, the Precision 5690 rarely faltered in performance. And I’m never going to say no to nearly 11 hours of battery life. If security is a major selling point, Dell offers several options to keep your data secure. It’ll cost you though. That’s one of the biggest drawbacks of the Dell Precision 5690.
