Dell Precision 5520
Um das aktuellste Dell Precision 5520 zu beschreiben, bedarf es einer Vielzahl an Superlativen. Der amerikanische Hersteller spricht von der „dünnsten, leichtesten und kleinsten 15-Zoll-Workstation der Welt“. Tatsächlich könnte es leicht als Premium-Ultrabook durchgehen. Auf den ersten Blick wird offensichtlich, dass das Precision 5520 eine stattliche Arbeitsmaschine ist. Sein 14-inch-Gehäuse ist kompakt und die Handballenauflage aus Carbon vermittelt Stärke und Langlebigkeit. Die Dimensionen des Laptops betragen 0,44 x 14,05 x 9,26 und 1,78 kg. Das schlanke und leichte Profil machen den Laptop auch noch zu einem starken Arbeitspferd. Das 15,6-Zoll-Display wird Endkunden den Atem verschlagen, da das InfinityEdge-Display der XPS- und Dell Premium-Serien Einzug in die ultraportable Arbeitsstation gehalten hat. Weiters ist das Display von einer sehr schmalen Einfassung umgeben, sodass Bildvergnügen tatsächlich grenzenlos erscheint. Außerdem können mit hervorragenden 4K-Ultra-HD-Auflösung mit über 8 Millionen Pixeln unglaubliche Details in Bildern und Medieninhalten dargestellt werden. Dell PremierColor garantiert dem User eine bis zu 100-prozentige Abdeckung des AdobeRGB-Farbraums, um die verlangte Qualität und Detailreichtum abzubilden. Was die Leistung anbelangt, wird dieser Laptop von einem Intel Core i5-7440HQ und 8GB DDR4 RAM angetrieben. Es ist unzweifelhaft, dass diese Spezifikationen die maximale Leistung ermöglichen, und das sogar bei professioneller, fordernder Software. Der interne Speicher besteht aus 500 GB Hard Drive, was sicherlich ausreicht für Medienspeicher aller Art, doch wahrscheinlich nicht unbedingt für eine Workstation mit anspruchsvoller Nutzung.
Für adäquate Konnektivität wurde mit USB 3.0 Ports, einem HDMI-Port und einem Thunderbolt-3-Port auch gesorgt. Das Einzelkabel-Dockingmodul macht Multitasking zu einem Kinderspiel und die Thunderbolt-3-Konnektvität stellt sicher, dass auch der Transfer von großen Daten beinahe in Lichtgeschwindigkeit vonstatten geht. Zur weiteren Ausstattung des Laptops gehört ein 3-Zellen-Lithium-Ionen-Akku (56 Wh) mit Schnellladefunktion (ExpressCharge). Das wird natürlich jene Kunden anlocken, welche zusätzliche Batteriefähigkeit für längere Produktivität und schnelles Laden für die Arbeit benötigen. Ein weiteres Feature dieser Precision Workstation ist der Dell Precision Optimizer, welcher es bewerkstelligt, die Applikationen der bekanntesten, eigenständigen Softwarehersteller (ISV Independent Software Vendor) schnellstmöglich zum Laufen zu bringen. Eine einzige Eigenart dieser Workstation ist allerdings zu erwähnen, und das ist die Positionierung der Kamera. Configuration options extend to a Xeon W processor, Nvidia RTX A3000 graphics and 8TB of storage, the keyboard is exceptional and the build is very solid. There are a few downsides, however. The 720p webcam is average, battery life is lacklustre, and those seeking more muscular configurations will need to dig deep into their pockets. Working with the 4K screen I would struggle to get a full day's work out of a full battery charge. Even the base model in the UK costs £2,352.64 (inc. VAT) and its Core i5 processor, integrated graphics, non-touch FHD+ screen, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage are far below what most workstation users will require.

Now that we’ve seen what the Precision 17 5770 is all about, it’s time to summarize all the information and try to help you make a purchase decision. Before we start, you have to know that this laptop is fairly expensive. It has all of the vPro goodies from Intel, as well as the optional certifications, should you pick a model that comes with a dedicated GPU. In our experience, the RTX A2000 happened to work just fine, although it was 3W shy of maintaining its 65W power budget. This machine comes with one of the best sounding speakers in the Windows world, which is courtesy of its XPS legacy. The input devices are also very good, while the fingerprint reader and the IR face recognition scanner do help with security. And while having four Thunderbolt 4 connectors is excellent, and utilizing a full-sized SD card reader is useful for photographers, we really miss the dedicated USB Type-A ports and HDMI connectors. Don’t be scared, though, as the company provides a USB Type-C to USB Type-A and HDMI dongle inside the box.

EN→DEI like using the Dell Precision 5680 because it feels like a slightly bigger, beefier version of the elegant, streamlined laptops I've come to expect from Dell. With its easy-to-carry frame, big screen and strong performance it's probably the closest thing I've yet seen to an OLED-equipped Dell XPS 17, and it will be for the foreseeable future—or at least, until Dell decides to sell an XPS 17 OLED. But as much as I like the Precision 5680, it's hard to see a lot of cases where I'd recommend it to someone over another laptop. It can't last as long on battery or perform as well (at least in basic benchmarks) as Apple's MacBook Pros, it can't run games as well as the best gaming laptops, and its performance relative to other 16-inch 4K workstations we've tested this year is mixed.

Dell: Dell ist ein 1984 gegründeter US-amerikanischer Hersteller (Sitz Texas) von Computer-Hardware und gehört zu den grössten internationalen Herstellern sowohl in Bezug auf Marktanteile als auch hinsichtlich Notebook-Modellen. Die Produktpalette umfasst unter anderem Desktops, Notebooks, Speichersysteme, Monitore, Server, Drucker, Unterhaltungselektronik und Peripheriegeräte. Dell bietet Laptops an, die ich für verschiedene Einsatzbereiche eignen, z. B. Business-Laptops, Gaming-Laptops, Ultra-Portables und Workstations. Die Business-Notebooks von Dell aus den Latitude- und Precision-Serien sind eine Option für professionelle Anwender und Unternehmen.
2023 hatte Dell einen ungefähren Marktanteil von 17% am weltweiten PC-Absatz und war damit die Nummer 3 nach Lenovo und HP.
Für Gaming-Enthusiasten ist die Marke Alienware von Dell für Gaming-Notebooks vorgesehen.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
NVIDIA Quadro M1000M: Mittelklasse-Workstation Grafikkarte der Maxwell Architektur basierend auf dem 28nm GM107-Chip.
NVIDIA Quadro M1200: Mittelklasse-Workstation Grafikkarte der Maxwell Architektur basierend auf die Maxwell Architektur (GM107) wie die GTX 960M.

3D Spiele sind auf diesen Vertretern nur in Ausnahmen spielbar, grundsätzlich sind die Grafiklösungen hierfür jedoch nicht geeignet. Office Programme und Internet surfen dürfte jedoch ohne Problem möglich sein.

Diese Grafikkarten sollten alle modernen Spiele flüssig darstellen können. Anspruchsvolle Spiele müssen jedoch in mittlerer Detailstufe gespielt werden. Ältere und weniger anspruchsvolle Spiele wie die Sims Serie können auch in hohen Detailsstufen flüssig dargestellt werden.

14 Zoll Display-Grösse stellt ein Mittelding zwischen den kleinen Subnotebook-Formaten und den Bildschirmen der 15 Zoll-Standard-Laptops dar.
Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist, gute Auflösungen mit brauchbaren Detailgrößen liefern und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können.
Früher waren 14 Zoll-Geräte sehr selten, jetzt stellen sie nach den 15-Zollern den Standard bei Laptops dar.
16.00: Dieser Bereich für Displayformate war und ist eine Seltenheit. Es ist größer als der allgemeine Standard von 15 Zoll, aber noch nicht im Bereich der großen Workstations. Man hat üblicherweise höhere Bildschirmauflösungen zur Verfügung, darunter leidet aber auch die Portabilität.
17.00: Diese Displaygrösse ist ein Standardformat für Desktop-Replacements. Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem. DTR sind hauptsächlich für stationären Schreibtischeinsatz vorgesehen, wo Gewicht und Energiehunger egal sind. Dafür genießt man die Vorzüge hoher Auflösungen (mehr Details, besser lesbar).
