Dell Precision 5550 vs. Precision 5560: Wo liegt der Unterschied?

Wenn Ihnen das Precision 5560 bekannt vorkommt, dann weil es mehr oder weniger die gleiche mobile Workstation ist wie das Precision 5550. Die GPU und PCIe4-Speicheroptionen unterscheiden die beiden Modelle.

Der Sprung vom Precision 5540 auf das Precision 5550 war ein großer. Hier wurde erstmals das Design des alten XPS 15 9570 durch das des neuen XPS 15 9500 ersetzt. Der Schritt vom Precision 5550 auf das Precision 5560 ist, von Außen betrachtet, ein deutlich kleinerer. Im Inneren hat sich allerdings durchaus etwas getan.

Das Precision 5560 ist mit der neueren Nvidia-Ampere-Quadro-GPU-Serie ausgestattet, die die Turing-GPUs aus dem Vorjahr ersetzt. Das führt zu einer Steigerung der reinen Grafikleistung um 40 bis 50 Prozent im Vergleich zum Precision 5550. Die Energieaufnahme ist im Vergleich dazu nur leicht gestiegen. Insgesamt bietet dieses Modell ein besseres Verhältnis von Leistung zu Watt.

Auch im Bereich der Massenspeicher gibt es Veränderung. Das Precision 5560 unterstützt nun statt PCIe3 PCIe4-NVMe-SSDs. Die Übertragungsrate erreicht damit über 7.000 MB/s, während beim Vorgänger nur 3.400 MB/s möglich waren (siehe Benchmarkergebnisse weiter unten).

Die Energieaufnahme ist unter geringer Belastung, etwa beim Surfen im Web, höher als beim Precision 5550. Aus diesem Grund ist auch die Akkulaufzeit des Precision 5560 im realistischen WLAN-Test mit 150 cd/m² um zwei bis drei Stunden kürzer als beim Vorgänger.

Dell hat möglicherweise das maximale Lüftergeräusch eingeschränkt, da hier nur mehr 40 dB(A) erreicht wurden, während das maximale Lüftergeräusch des Precision 5550 bei 50 dB(A) lag. Das neuere Modell ist daher unter hoher Last (wie etwa Prime95) leiser, die Kerntemperatur ist unseren Beobachtungen zufolge dafür allerdings um bis zu 15 °C gestiegen.

Abgesehen von dem Upgrade der GPU und der SSD hat sich nicht wirklich viel verändert. Vermutlich werden nur wenige von den geringeren Leistungsvorteilen der CPU und Thunderbolt 4 statt Thunderbolt 3 profitieren. Schade, dass Dell die schlechte 720p-Webcam nicht auf 1.080p aufgerüstet oder einen Webcam-Shutter eingebaut hat.
