Das Dell Vostro 1400 konnte im Test durchaus auf seine Vorzüge hinweisen. Vor allem das Gehäuse und die Eingabegeräte sprechen für das kompakte Office Notebook. Die Schwächen des Laptops sind vor allem im Bereich des Displays als auch bei der Anschlussausstattung angesiedelt. Ein digitaler Bildausgang oder ein Docking Port wäre gerade bei einem mobilen Office Notebook sehr empfehlenswert.
Das Design des Dell Vostro fand durchaus Gefallen. Insgesamt wirkt das Notebook deutlich stimmiger als das Vostro 1500 welches vergleichsweise eher als plump zu bezeichnen ist. Erstklassig fällt auch die gebotene Gehäusestabilität des Vostro 1400 aus. Der Einsatz von hochwertigen Metallbauteilen macht sich diesbezüglich auf jeden Fall bezahlt.
Auch die Eingabegeräte konnten im Test überzeugen. Die robuste Tastatur und das gebotene Touchpad hinterlassen einen recht guten Eindruck und sind für den täglichen Office Einsatz durchaus zu empfehlen.

Dell brings small-business customers a speedy and full-featured notebook with dedicated support and plenty of helpful tools. It's not just a buttoned-down black version of an Inspiron. The Vostro 1400, part of a new Dell notebook line, was designed from the ground up to appeal to the specific needs of small-business customers (offices with 1 to 25 workers). From tune-up and network-assistant tools to an easy online-backup solution, using the Vostro 1400 is like having a tiny IT guy inside your system. Plus, you get all of the multimedia amenities of a consumer notebook (webcam, multimedia controls, 8-in-1 card reader) without the crapware that bogs down other brands.  With its rounded edges and soft-touch-finish lid, this notebook certainly looks hipper than the corporate Latitude line. (You don't have the Inspiron's eight color options, but that's fine given this system's target audience.) The six-pound Vostro 1400 is relatively thick and heavy for a notebook with a 14.1-inch display, but the magnesium-alloy chassis feels sturdy.

The Dell Vostro 1400 is a 14.1" screen business notebook recently released. Dell is targeting small business buyers with the Vostro line of notebooks, but given the sturdy build, excellent price and option for installing Windows XP and less bloatware, models such as the Vostro 1400 might appeal to consumers as well. Ever since selling my XPS M140, I have been keeping my eyes open for another notebook deal.  For a while, I was seriously considering the Asus W3j, but I just couldn’t justify the high price.  Instead, I bought a desktop to hold me over. I wanted a notebook that was portable and had good battery life (4 hours or more was my goal).  I also wanted something in the $600-$800 range.  I wanted my future notebook to have a 12-14” widescreen display, have discreet graphics, have a built in webcam and microphone.  The Vostro 1400 met all of my needs and at a great price! The Dell Vostro 1400 is an excellent choice for the price!

NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS: Für Gelegenheitsspieler ausreichende Grafikleistung, jedoch durch den nur 64 Bit breiten Speicherbus deutlich geringere Grafikleistung als die 8400M GT. Für DirectX 10 Effekte (trotz Unterstützung) jedoch deutlich zu langsam.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.
