The newest version of the Dell XPS 15, complete with OLED, is a winning combination. As we've come to expect, the XPS build is quality, and it comes with most modern features you could ask for. Sure, the design could be updated, but the laptop still feels solidly made and premium. The gorgeous screen offers high color coverage for professionals and is a joy to look at for everyone else. The discrete GPU adds some 3D power and genuine gaming capability, even if it's not at the highest settings.

If you are willing to invest Rs 2.2 lakhs in a laptop, you expect to have little to no compromises on most fronts, whether it be the display, battery life or performance. The XPS 15 manages to keep the compromises to a bare minimum like its predecessors and encourages the user to use it more as a tool. The 4K OLED display is easily the best laptop display my eyes have feasted on while the performance is superlative. The dedicated Nvidia GPU is powerful enough to help with rigorous video and photo editing while the long battery encourages you to go without the cord for the day. The design might be a bit understated but for those mean business, the XPS has just the right amount of flair and appeal to make you smug while flaunt it on the table.

Power, I need more power! The iteration of the Dell XPS 2019 is a workhorse of the highest caliber. Inside that stylish, 0.7-inch thick aluminum chassis lies an overclockable Intel Core i9 processor, speedy 1TB m.2 NVMe PCIe SSD and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 GPU, effectively giving consumers premium good looks with workstation-caliber power. And speaking of good looks, you can configure this bad boy with a spectacular 4K OLED display, which makes just about anything look great. And at $2,649, it's thousands of dollars less than a tricked-out Apple MacBook Pro ($6,549).

The Dell XPS 15 (7590) physically remains unchanged from the XPS 15 of 2018. Literally, the only thing that’s changed is the webcam's placement, but other than that, the physical dimensions and even port placement remain identical. We don’t mind that. What’s significantly improved is the thermal performance which lets the Intel Core i9 powered machine flex a little more muscle before hitting thermal throttling. Undervolt the CPU and you get even more sustained performance, albeit at the cost of the turbo speeds, but that’s okay. The new XPS 15 manages to be a computer that’s great for travellers thanks to its slim form-factor, for business people thanks to its good looks and even for content creators thanks to the powerful hardware on the inside.

But before I buy my next Dell XPS 15, I want to see this aging design replaced with a new one. Not a thinner laptop or one with fewer full-size ports, as manufacturers typically tend to do — those are fine as they are. But I wouldn’t mind a lighter laptop, one that boots faster, with a second Thunderbolt 3 port on the other side of the laptop for charging, and a thermal design that can actually keep a Core i9 and game-capable GPU cool. Maybe a carbon-fiber-coated magnesium alloy frame for less heft? I’d gladly take an RTX 2060-class chip as well.

One thing we unfortunately don’t have here is a frame rate trace. Certainly frame rates dropped, but we suspect it’s not the impact you'd assume going from, say, 2.6GHz to 1.6GHz. Given the GeForce GTX 1650's moderate horsepower, a drop from 70 fps to 55 fps doesn’t really change the experience much.

Modell: Um den Wünschen von Benutzern nachzukommen, hat Dell einige wichtige Veränderungen gegenüber früheren Laptops vorgenommen. Mehr Raum für Verbesserungen lässt viel erwarten. Dell enttäuscht mit seinen neuesten Updates zum vorigen Dell XPS 15 7590 Laptop-Modell keinesfalls. Das scheinbar überholte Model würde gründlich überarbeitet um im Jahrzehnt der Millenials kompetent und relevant zu bleiben. Zweifelsohne bleibt es interessant, was die neueste Version des Dell XPS 15 7590 zu bieten hat.

Das Dell XPS 15 7590 korrigiert die unerwünschte Positionierung der Front-Webcam, die hauptsächlich auf die Nase des Benutzers anstatt auf seine Gesamterscheinung fokussiert. Eine leichte Neupositionierung dieser Kamera behebt dieses Problem und optimiert das Dell XPS 15 7590 nun entsprechend den Anforderungen der Öffentlichkeit. Die Front-Webcam der aktualisierten Version des Dell XPS 15 7590 befindet sich nun in der Mitte des oberen Randes des 15,6-Zoll-Bildschirms anstatt am unteren Rand. Neupositionierung ist nicht das einzige Upgrade der Webcam des Dell XPS 15 7590. Diese erhielt ein neues 4-Element-Objektiv, welche in Kombination mit Rauschunterdrückung und Geräuschunterdrückung in allen Bereichen gestochen scharfe Videos liefert. Dies als bisher klügsten Marketing-Maßnahme Dells für seine Laptop-Modelle gesehen werden, besonders wenn es um Verbesserungen älterer Modelle geht.

Außerdem wurden die Kernkomponenten aktualisiert. Die aktualisierte Version des Dell XPS 15 7590 nutzt einen Intel Core i9-9980HK Prozessor der 9. Generation sowie eine NVIDIA GeForce RTX 1650 Grafikkarte. Beide Komponenten zeichnen sich durch ihre Leistungsfähigkeit aus. Der Intel Core i9-9980HK hat beispielsweise eine offizielle Taktrate von bis zu schockierenden 5 GHz. Eine solche kann als herausragend angesehen werden, da kaum ein anderes Laptop-Modell im selben Spektrum oder Preisbereich solche eine Leistungskapazität bietet. Zudem verbessert die GeForce RTX 1650 das Rendern von Grafiken. Dadurch arbeiten Programme zur Erstellung von Inhalten, Videobearbeitung, Grafikdesign, Animation und dergleichen schneller.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Mobile: Mid-Range Notebook-Grafikkarte basierend auf der Desktop GTX 1650 mit Turing Architektur. Bietet keine Raytracing und Tensor-Kerne im Gegensatz zu den stärkeren RTX 2000 Modellen. Die Leistung soll etwas oberhalb der alten GTX 1050 Ti liegen. Es gibt eine Variante mit 1024 und eine mit 896 Shader.

Diese Grafikkarten sollten alle modernen Spiele flüssig darstellen können. Anspruchsvolle Spiele müssen jedoch in mittlerer Detailstufe gespielt werden. Ältere und weniger anspruchsvolle Spiele wie die Sims Serie können auch in hohen Detailsstufen flüssig dargestellt werden.

i9-9980HK: Auf der Coffee-Lake-Architektur basierender SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für große Notebooks. Integriert unter anderem acht CPU-Kerne mit 2,4 - 5 GHz (4,2 GHz bei 8 Kernen) und HyperThreading sowie eine Grafikeinheit und wird in 14-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt. Dank freiem Multiplikator ist ein Übertakten der CPU möglich.
