Performance-Test: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU

Raytracing für die Mittelklasse. Nach den High-End-Modellen RTX 3060, RTX 3070 und RTX 3080 gibt es – die entsprechende Verfügbarkeit vorausgesetzt – jetzt auch neue Midrange-Vertreter für Notebooks. Vor dem Launch konnten wir bereits die vielversprechende RTX 3050 Ti begutachten und berichten in diesem Artikel von der Leistung.

Egal, ob Prozessoren oder Grafikkarten: Dass aktuelle Hardware aus mehreren Gründen (Mining-Hype, Chip-Ausbeute, Ressourcen-Knappheit, …) oft kaum bis gar nicht verfügbar ist, dürfte sich inzwischen herumgesprochen haben. Neben AMD hat auch Nvidia derzeit mit teils eklatanten Produktions- und Lieferschwierigkeiten zu kämpfen. Nichtsdestotrotz hält dieses Problem die Hersteller nicht davon ab, weiter frische Produkte zu präsentieren.

Während der High-End-Bereich Anfang des Jahres Nachschub in Form der RTX 3060 bis RTX 3080 erhalten hat, kümmert sich Nvidia nun um den besonders beliebten Mittelklasse-Sektor. Die RTX 3050 und die RTX 3050 Ti (wir sparen uns der Einfachheit jeweils die offizielle Endung „Laptop GPU“) versprechen nicht nur genug Power für flüssiges Full-HD-Gaming, sondern bringen endlich auch Raytracing in preislich attraktive Regionen, wobei die RTX-Leistung – um es gleich mal vorwegzunehmen – bei fast keinem Raytracing-Titel überzeugt.

Als Testsystem kam ein früher Protoyp von Schenker zum Einsatz. Das zugrunde liegende Barebone dürfen wir zwar nicht näher benennen, die verbaute Hardware ist jedoch kein Geheimnis.

Damit die Grafikkarte entsprechend zur Geltung kommt, werkelt als CPU ein pfeilschnelles Sechskernmodell von AMD. Der Ryzen 5 5600H kann es locker mit der Intel Konkurrenz aufnehmen und übertrifft diese sogar in vielen Anwendungen. 2x 8 GB DDR4-3200-RAM im Dual-Channel-Modus und eine 1-TB-SSD sind für ein Mittelklasse-Notebook ebenfalls ordentlich. Der 15-Zoll-Screen bietet 1.920 x 1.080 Pixel, wobei alle Benchmarks auf einem externen 4K-Monitor durchgeführt wurden.

Spezifikationen

Im ersten Moment erinnern die Spezifikationen der RTX 3050 Ti an den direkten Vorgänger GTX 1650 Ti: Neben dem Boost-Takt (1.485 MHz bei der getesteten Variante) ist auch die Größe des Videospeichers identisch. 4 GB GDDR6-VRAM mit 128-Bit-Interface sind im Jahr 2021 selbst für ein Midrange-Modell relativ bescheiden. Bei höheren Detailstufen sehnen sich viele moderne Games inzwischen nach mehr als 6 oder sogar 8 GB VRAM. Um die Zukunftsfähigkeit ist es trotz RTX-Support also nicht zum Besten bestellt. Diesem Umstand sollte man sich vor dem Kauf bewusst sein.

Deutlich draufgelegt hat Nvidia beim Thema Shader-Einheiten, wenngleich letztere aufgrund der unterschiedlichen Architektur (Ampere vs Turing) nicht 1:1 vergleichbar sind. Statt 1.024 CUDA Cores enthält die RTX 3050 Ti ganze 2.560 CUDA Cores, was einen spürbaren Performance-Schub nahelegt. Mit diesem Wert zieht die RTX 3050 Ti rein zahlenmäßig auch an der GTX 1660 Ti (1.536 Shader) und der RTX 2060 (1.920 Shader) vorbei, die allerdings jeweils auf 6 GB VRAM und 192 Bit zurückgreifen können. Vom Niveau der RTX 3060 (3.840 Shader) ist der neue Mittelklasse-Spross aber noch weit entfernt.

Analog zu den teureren Ampere-Chips erbt die RTX 3050 Ti die äußerst variable TGP, welche sich sehr stark auf die Geschwindigkeit auswirkt. In unserem Fall lief die Grafikkarte mit 60 Watt (75 inklusive Dynamic Boost) und damit am mittleren bis oberen Ende der Skala für dieses Modell (35 bis 80 Watt). Andere Laptops auf RTX 3050 Ti-Basis mit geringerer TGP könnten deutlich langsamer unterwegs sein.

Gaming Benchmarks

Solange man keine besonders VRAM-lastigen Spiele nutzt und es bei 1.920 x 1.080 Pixeln belässt, hat die RTX 3050 Ti eine mehr als ordentliche Gaming-Leistung vorzuweisen. Im Idealfall rechnet der Midrange-Chip auf dem Level der alten Turing-Vertreter GTX 1660 Ti und RTX 2060. Anders sieht es bei aktuellen Titeln aus, die sehr viel Videospeicher benötigen (z. B. Call of Duty Cold War). Hier tendiert die Framerate eher Richtung GTX 1650 (Ti) ein. Dennoch lassen sich fast alle Games in Full-HD mit hohen bis maximalen Details zocken (40 FPS+).

Hin und wieder reicht die Geschwindigkeit auch für QHD-Displays (2.560 x 1.440). Für 4K-Monitore (3.840 x 2.160) ist die RTX 3050 Ti aus Spielersicht dagegen ungeeignet. Bei aktiviertem Raytracing sind bereits in Full-HD nur selten flüssige Ergebnisse möglich – außer man fährt die Details deutlich herunter.

Fazit

Trotz der recht mageren Raytracing-Performance (zumindest ohne DLSS) und der dürftigen Speicherausstattung (nur 4 GB VRAM) hält die RTX 3050 Ti im Großen und Ganzen, was sie verspricht und was wir im Vorfeld von ihr erwartet hatten: Genug Leistung für ruckelfreies Spielen in Full-HD mit hohen bis maximalen Settings.

Wenn man alle Werte zusammennimmt, siedelt sich die Geschwindigkeit einer mittleren bis hohen TGP-Variante knapp unter dem Niveau der alten GTX 1660 Ti an, die dank ihres größeren Videospeichers (6 GB) eine konstantere Vorstellung abliefert und mehr Zukunftssicherheit bietet, sofern man auf Raytracing verzichten kann. Im Vergleich zur GTX 1650 (Ti) macht die RTX 3050 Ti meist eine gute Figur und erreicht oft ein schönes Maß an Mehrleistung, weshalb sich hier ein Upgrade lohnen kann.

Kurzum: Preisbewusste Spieler erhalten mit der RTX 3050 Ti einen passenden Begleiter. Core-Gamer werden indes erst ab der RTX 2060 bzw. RTX 3060 glücklich.

In den frühen 90er-Jahren mit MS-DOS und Windows 3.1 aufgewachsen, entdeckte ich schon im Kindesalter mein Interesse für den Bereich Computer. Speziell Computerspiele strahlten bereits damals eine große Faszination auf mich aus. Von Monkey Island über Lands of Lore bis hin zu Doom wurde alles gezockt, was man so unter die Finger bekam. Für Notebookcheck bin ich seit 2009 tätig mit Schwerpunkt auf leistungsstarke Gaming-Notebooks.
