Es bleibt also dabei; das Dell XPS 17 ist eines der derzeit besten 17-Zoll Notebooks am Markt - versagt aber mit dem Touchscreen seinen Dienst. Es kommt nur auf die richtige Zusammenstellung an. Vom Touchscreen können wir nach diesem Test also abraten. Die Konfigurationen mit 3D-Display und 'normalem' Monitor verrichten ihre Aufgaben deutlich besser.

Dells XPS 17 ist ein überzeugender Multimedia-Maxi mit satter Performance, einem tollen Display, der aber mit einer Schwachstelle zu kämpfen hat: der Lautstärke. Blickt man aktuell auf das Preisschild des XPS 17 könnte man meinen, sich zu irren. Der Einstiegspreis liegt bei 799 Euro – in unserer Konfiguration kommen lediglich 235 Euro für die 3D-Funktion des Displays dazu (und die kann man sich unserer Meinung nach eigentlich gut sparen).

Das Resümee, das wir im letzten Test zum XPS 17 gezogen haben, lässt sich bei der Neuauflage größtenteils wiederholen. Auf der positiven Seite wäre unter anderem das tadellos verarbeitete und hochwertige Gehäuse anzuführen, das mit unempfindlichen Oberflächen, guten Eingabegeräten und einer intelligenten Anschlussanordnung punktet.

Dem XPS 17 hat Dell ein hochwertiges Gehäuse spendiert, das mit guter Stabilität und hoher Verarbeitungsqualität im Detail überzeugen kann. Mit seinen 3,65 kg ist der 17 Zoller kein Leichtgewicht und auch mit dem spiegelnden Display weniger für Einsätze auf Balkon oder im Garten geeignet, zumindest nicht bei direkter Sonneneinstrahlung.

It's been a while since we've been quite so blown away by a laptop. The Dell XPS 17 delivers excellent audio quality and has a GPU/CPU combo that opens the door to all kinds of uses and programs. It has a top-notch design, great handling, battery life of almost six hours and a high-contrast screen.

At Rs. 85,800, the Dell XPS 17 offers good value for money, despite its minor shortcomings. It’s designed to be a desktop replacement and it does a brilliant job at that. It also just happens to be one of the most feature rich notebooks in the market, currently. If you were out shopping for a desktop replacement notebook, then the Dell XPS 17 should be high on your list. Remember though, that this is not exactly a portable solution and the battery life is not the best, since it does not have Nvidia’s Optimus technology so you’ll have to compromise on these a bit.

The Dell XPS 17 L702X comes in at a fairly competitive price, though it still comes up short in key areas. 500GB seems small for a £1000-plus laptop and although the screen is very good the 3D capabilities are of limited appeal. But the design flaws of the Dell really make themselves obvious after a period of time; its qualities as a multimedia machine are overshadowed by noisy fans and heat issues.

The XPS 17 benefits from some very slick design, from the touchpad to the keyboard and speakers. However, it is a chunky machine, and the hard disk size on our review model was disappointingly small. While this Dell offering isn't particularly cheap, considering what you're getting here - the build quality, array of ports, solid gaming performance and a great display - it isn't a laptop you'll regret buying.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M: Nachfolger der GeForce GT 445M und in verschiedensten Varianten mit unterschiedlichen Spezifikationen (96 oder 144 Rechenkerne, 128 oder 192 Bit Speicherbus, DDR3 oder GDDR5).

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
