While the Honor 400 comes out swinging with its clean looks, high pixel count camera and AI-packed software, it can’t quite land its punches in other areas. It’s no performance powerhouse, at a point where rivals like Poco are putting chips from the class above in their cut-price handsets, and battery life is more respectable than revolutionary. Spend a little more and you can get proper endurance. There’s not a whole lot of breathing room between this and the last-gen Honor 200, either. However, if you’re a fan of the looks – or value photography over trips to a power socket – and don’t want to raise your budget to a more mid-range alternative, the Honor 400 still holds a certain appeal.

Time for the million-dollar question! Should you buy the Honor 400 5G? The answer, anticlimactically, is it depends. The phone does some things right and neglects others. For starters, the display is beautiful—thin bezels, bright and colorful, sharp and detailed. The main camera is also pretty decent; not many phones in this price range get the 200MP treatment in this department. Furthermore, the wired charging is pretty fast, and we can't overlook the design (quite literally). Last but not least, the Honor 400 comes with the promise of 6 years of major OS updates, though we're not sure if the hardware will manage to live up to that promise. Now, not everything is roses, though.

Time for the million-dollar question! Should you buy the Honor 400 5G? The answer, anticlimactically, is it depends. The phone does some things right and neglects others. For starters, the display is beautiful—thin bezels, bright and colorful, sharp and detailed. The main camera is also pretty decent; not many phones in this price range get the 200MP treatment in this department. Furthermore, the wired charging is pretty fast, and we can't overlook the design (quite literally). Last but not least, the Honor 400 comes with the promise of 6 years of major OS updates, though we're not sure if the hardware will manage to live up to that promise. Now, not everything is roses, though.

The internals aren't quite up to scratch, and if you want a phone predominantly for mobile gaming, there are much better choices available. I like what Honor is doing with the software as well, and its AI suite is better than most other brands in this category. Honor is clearly going after Samsung with the device, and after using both, I can safely say that the Honor 400 is a much better choice than the Galaxy A56 in the areas that actually matter.

Admittedly, I’m a little torn on how to feel on the Honor 400 Pro. Don’t get me wrong, this is a capable mid-range handset that delivers on a sleek, grown-up look, a gorgeous screen and marvellous efficiency that pit it against the very best mid-range phones out there, but there is just something about it. It might be the triple camera array that Honor has made a lot of that’s holding me back. General performance here is good, with great detail and more natural colours than some key rivals, but the meagre low light performance in some settings and reliance on AI trickery at longer focal lengths stop it being an full-blown ‘go buy this now’ recommendation. This is an excellent phone for the most part, and it’ll give you all of what you need/want in a phone in 2025, but you can do better with some rivals for outright potency and camera performance.

The Honor 400 Pro is equipped with a sizable 6,000mAh battery that recharges at a pacey 100W via USB-C. During my testing, the phone comfortably lasts an entire day for me. I usually end the day with 50% battery left. In PCMark's battery test, the Honor clocked 10hr 10min, which is similar to the Samsung Galaxy S25. Given that it's also a value flagship using the same processor, the Poco F7 Pro is a likely competitor to the Honor 400 Pro. At S$899, the Honor is more expensive than the Poco (S$729), but the Honor has better cameras, and more AI tools. On the other hand, the Poco has the advantage for battery life. Both are solid upper mid-range models for those who want a near flagship phone experience without the hefty price tag. Perhaps it is due to so many smartphones being designed to feel good and look good, but not necessarily to remain comfortable to use after hours of use. The 400 Lite is, well, light and causes no strain, and as such is a small revelation. On top of that, with a good display, decent performance and strong battery life, it certainly has more than a few arrows to its quiver; however, it is not without weaknesses. The camera, for all of its megapixels, does nothing to impress.

Yes there are a few compromises that have been made to get the price to where they needed it to be and these may be deal breakers but for a lot of people, they won’t. I know that if I were looking for a second phone (for work use maybe) or a phone for my family members, then this would defiantly be one on my radar. When looking at competition then you are going to be looking at the likes of the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite 5G (£199), OnePlus Nord 4 (£399) Samsung Galaxy A26 5G (£249).

Having used the Honour 400 Lite for a few days now, I can say that it falls firmly into the lower end of the current smartphone market. This is perfectly acceptable, as it aligns with the intended market. However, there are a couple of shortcomings that I’ve noticed. The most significant ones are the single loudspeaker setup and the lack of wireless charging. While these features are not uncommon in high-end or high-priced devices, they are still a downside for this phone. The performance can also be a bit slow at times. However, this may be due to the fact that the phone is currently running on pre-release software, as it is not officially launching until the end of the month. Despite these minor flaws, if you’re looking for a low-cost entry-level smartphone with good battery life and reasonable charging speeds, then the Honour 400 Lite might be worth considering. I’ll provide a more detailed review in the future, after I’ve had a chance to use the phone for a bit longer.

As affordable phones go it’s an alright performer, takes a decent enough photo, and can go all day on a charge – but the same can be said for most of its rivals. The Poco X7 Pro lasts even longer and has more power; the Nothing Phone 3a has unique looks and streamlined software; the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion is way tougher. None of the cheap competition do such a convincing impression of a premium handset. If you don’t mind paying for that design, you’ll be happy enough with what the 400 Lite offers for the cash. The Honor 400 Lite appeals to those who like the Apple look, but budget rivals arguably have more unique personalities.

Honor: 2014 gründete Huawei die Tochtermarke Honor unter der bestimmte Smartphone-Linien vertrieben werden. Gelegentlich werden die Produkte auch unter der Bezeichnung Huawei Honor geführt.

Der Marktanteil von Honor-Produkten ist überschaubar, aber es gibt einige Testberichte für Honor Smartphones mit durchschnittliche Bewertungen (2016).

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

Qualcomm Adreno 720: Grafikchip für Smartphones und Tablets, integriert im Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC. 

Qualcomm Adreno 750: Grafikchip für Smartphones und Tablets, integriert im Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. Schnellster Grafikchips für Smartphones gegen Ende 2023 und schlägt auch die GPU im Apple A17 Pro (iPhone 15 Pro).

Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.

Imagination IMG BXM-8-256: Grafikchip der BXM-Serie welcher Tile-Based-Deferred-Rendering nutzt. Laut Imagination braucht der Chip um 30% weniger Strom als die Vorgängergenerationen (PowerVR?).

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

Qualcomm Adreno 619: Grafikchip für Smartphones und Tablets, integriert im Qualcomm Snapdragon 750 SoC. Die Performance ist deutlich besser als der alte Adreno 612.

Qualcomm Snapdragon:

SD 7 Gen 3: Mittelklasse SoC mit 8 Kryo Kernen (1x ARM Cortex-A715 2,63 GHz Prime Core, 3x ARM Cortex A715 2,4 GHz Performance-Cluster, 4x ARM Cortex A510 mit 1,8 Effizienz-Cluster) und einem X63 5G Modem. Der Chip wird im modernen 4nm Prozess gefertigt.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8:

SD 8 Gen 3: High-End SoC (System on a Chip) für Smartphones welcher Ende 2023 vorgestellt wurde. Integriert unter anderen einen schnellen Cortex-X4 "Prime Core" mit bis zu 3,3 GHz und 3 weitere schnelle Cortex-A720 3,2 GHz. Zwei weitere schnelle A720 (3 GHz) befinden sich im dritten Cluster. Zum Stromsparen wurden außerdem zwei weitere ARM Cortex-A520 Kerne mit 2,3 GHz verbaut. Integriert ein 5G Modem, WiFi 7 und eine deutlich schnellere AI Engine.

Mediatek :

Dimensity 7025: Das SoC ist großteils identisch mit dem Dimensity 7020 vom letzten Jahr, bietet aber einen etwas höheren Takt bei der CPU (bis 2,5 GHz) und eventuell auch bei der GPU. Zudem werden nun Bildsensoren bis 200 Megapixel unterstützt.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 6:

SD 6s Gen 3: Mittelklasse SoC mit 8 Kryo 660 Kernen (zwei ARM Cortex-A78 basierte Kerne mit bis 2,3 GHz und 6 ARM Cortex-A55 mit bis zu 2 GHz) und einem X51 5G Modem. Ähnlich zum älteren Snapdragon 695 jedoch mit höher getakteten CPU-Kernen.
