The Huawei Ascend P6's headlines are the price and the thinness. It's light, remarkably slim and yet still a decent performer. There's also that higher-resolution front-facing camera to add an extra facet, though whether the beauty effect will be something you'll use without embarrassment is another matter. Still, decent battery life and a reasonable 8MP rear camera mean plenty of boxes are ticked. And above all, this is a phone that costs significantly less than its rivals. It's not as classy as the iPhone 5 and can't take pictures like the HTC One but it's a fun phone. Unless you're dead set on 4G - the phone's biggest omission - it's worth a look.

Considering the P6's modest £380 price, it is a fairly good phone. Featuring a nippy, albeit not cutting-edge, processor, decent screen and solid, but slightly too iPhone-like, design. Its strong points are let down by a host of poor Emotion software additions and poor battery life. For this reason, while we imagine most people will be more than happy with the P6, we can't wholeheartedly recommend it – at least not until Huawei decides to release a version running stock Android.

From what we’ve seen so far, Ascend P6 is full of promise. It’s hard to predict how the final versions of both hardware and software will look like, but if they meet our expectation, it will be great. There's no escaping the fact that a lot of the Ascend P6 design looks like it's been borrowed from the iPhone 5. With the same flat aluminium sides and rounded corners. Put it in a slip case and you'll easily convince your mates that you've upgraded to an Apple smartphone. The only real differences are the screen size (it's bigger than then iPhone) and the rounded bottom edge. Oh, and it also comes in pink.
