The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i 15 sits just a rung or two above the minimum viable Windows laptop, outpacing cheaper models while trailing behind others costing just a few hundred dollars more. This laptop's keyboard is spacious, and it packs plenty of memory and solid-state storage (if you can pin down our test model) for barely more than $500. However, the other shoe drops quickly with lackluster battery life and a limited raw-performance ceiling. While the IdeaPad Slim 3i 15 isn’t a last-place laptop, it struggles to stand out from competitors. The Intel Core 5 120U lacks enough Performance cores to deliver potent results, and it’s saddled with a base-level IGP that doesn’t even surpass older 12th- and 13th-generation Intel Core IGPs. (Never mind an Arm-based Snapdragon graphics chip, of all things.)

The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 is not going to set anyone’s world on fire. It comes with bloatware, the audio is lackluster, and most of its aspects could best be described as “fine.” However, it’s fairly portable for its size, is attractive enough, and has enough performance for most people’s day-to-day needs. With its low price, it’s a great value for those that just need a Windows computer.

Just because the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i is a budget laptop doesn’t mean it needs to be a cheap laptop. I’d be OK with the performance and the display — I wouldn’t be thrilled with it, and neither should you — but one has to make some sacrifices with an affordable laptop. If the battery life lasted more than eight hours, that would have raised the Slim 3i to another level, but at just over 6 hours, it’s one of the shortest-lived non-gaming laptops we’ve tested in recent memory. Do yourself a favor and opt for the Acer Swift Go 14 (2024). For $100 more, you get longer battery life, a bright and colorful display, and much more powerful performance. That’s a steal when comparing the two and worth saving up for. Even at a steep discount, you could find something better than the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i.

If you need an unpretentious device for standard home or office tasks, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i Gen 9 (15, Intel) is a good choice when it’s combined with an SSD and dual-channel memory. Yep, don’t forget that the base configurations come with a TN panel, UFS storage, and just 8GB of soldered RAM in single-channel mode. These ones should be avoided unless your budget is extremely tight. The overall performance of our laptop with Core 5 120U, dual-channel RAM, and an NVMe is good. The only con is the slow write speeds of the SSDs which cause slow app installations.

Intel Iris Xe G7 80EUs: Integrierte Grafikkarte (in Tiger-Lake G4 SoCs) der Gen. 12 Architektur mit 80 EUs. Z.B. in Tiger Lake i5 CPUs verbaute iGPU.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
