Lenovo bietet sein kleinstes Subnotebook in interessanten Konfigurationen schon ab 499 Euro an. Unser Lenovo U160 M436GGE stellt fast die HighEnd-Version mit Core i5-520UM (ab 675 Euro). Die Rechenleistung hätte eigentlich den guten Vorgaben des Acer Timeline X 1830T (11.6-Zoll) entsprechen sollen. Auf Grund eines nicht richtig funktionierenden Turbo Boost lag der i5-520UM aber deutlich unter seinem Niveau.

After spending the last few days with the IdeaPad U160, we've come to the conclusion that the laptop is only for the few that demand more processing power than some of the other ultraportables on the market, yet are willing to put up with a few annoyances to have it. No matter how you look at it, these days $1,150 is a lot of money to shell out on a smaller machine, especially when other laptops out there that are just as light, run longer on a charge, and cost less -- just take the $799 13-inch Toshiba Portégé 705 or $450 Acer Aspire One 721. Yes, the U160 packs more CPU power, but at the end of the day you'll have to live with the heat and battery drain that it ultimately causes. And frankly, we wouldn't wish that upon anyone.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Intel HD Graphics oder GMA HD genannte onboard Grafikkarte welche im Package der Core i3/i5/i7 Arrandale Dual-Core Prozessoren untergebracht wird. Je nach Prozessormodell maximal mit 500 bis 766 MHz getaktet (Turbo Boost). Von Lenovo anscheinend auch GMA5700MHD genannt. Die gleichgenannte Intel HD Graphics Prozessorgrafik in den Sandy Bridge Prozessoren basiert auf einer neueren Architektur.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

520UM: Der Core i5-520UM ist ein sehr sparsamer Ultra Low Voltage Prozessor der sich auf bis zu 1.86 GHz übertakten kann (Turbo Boost). Der langsamere Turbo und der geringer L3 Cache sind der Unterschied zum i7-620UM. Dank Hyperthreading werden bis zu 4 Threads gleichzeitig bearbeitet.
