80% Samsung Galaxy Book 3 review: a great laptop if the price is right

The Samsung Galaxy Book 3 is less consistent than we'd like in areas, but the lower-end models sure do provide a classy experience on a tighter budget. It has the Samsung style we associate with more expensive laptops, and for many folks the basic spec will do the job just fine. That's where this laptop is a winner. Thanks to higher upgrade costs than you'd usually see from Lenovo or Acer, however, the shortcomings do start to stick out more if you pay for a specced-up model. That's where this laptop loses, as that includes poor colour saturation, a highly flexible keyboard plate, and a plastic touchpad surface. In summary, therefore, if you can find the Galaxy Book 3 in its entry-level spec for a bargain price then it's got the style to punch well above the competition. Just don't pay extra for the step-up models which then fall down in various areas where Samsung's other models in the range would do a better job – as would the competition.

All in all, the Galaxy Book 3 is a bit of a mixed bag. There are things that I love about it, the build quality and styling are top-notch, the speakers are good and the performance is great. The port selection is also above average and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity is nice to have. However, a lot of corners have been cut to hit its more accessible price point. The display is fine, but at 1080p resolution with a 60Hz refresh rate, it's far from impressive. The keyboard has no backlight, and at this price, that's borderline unacceptable. The webcam is also very middle-of-the-road, as is the battery life. On the whole, it's a decent laptop. It performs excellently, it's slim and lightweight, and it feels like a quality piece of kit. But for the model that I tested, with a retail price approaching £900, it doesn't do much to separate itself from the competition.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
