The Razr 60 Ultra was already the better choice for anyone who wants greater customisation for their cover screen – a far more pressing concern than Geekbench results, in my opinion. If you don’t care that much about using the cover screen beyond widgets (or are happy to side-load them via a third-party app), there’s a fairly strong argument for choosing the Z Flip 7 this year. The design is impressively slim and sturdy, battery life is very good, and the extensive software support remains unmatched. If the cover screen were less restrictive, it would be a slam-dunk for Samsung. As things stand, however, I’m still recommending the Razr 60 Ultra over the Galaxy Z Flip 7, because Motorola makes far more of the foldable format.

Gaming is possible, if not as strong, while this dinky flipper also offers Android 16 and long support. However, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, or Fan Edition, is a serious downgrade. This budget model isn't actually cheap and more akin to the Flip 6 from last year. Battery life isn't as good, while the performance and features also can't match the Samsung Flip 7. And in some ways, it’s actually better. This is a wonderful phone, and one that’s a joy to use.

I’ve really enjoyed the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The very action of opening and closing the phone is always a joy, despite the snappy action, and the phone feels futuristic and unusual. I love how convenient it is, the large inner screen is great for video, and the multi-tasking features make it useful. The camera is fun, especially if you take a lot of selfies or group photos, and the cover screen’s updated tech makes it look excellent. What the Galaxy Z Flip 7 isn’t is a hardcore gaming machine or a battery life monster. If those aspects are important to you, this will not meet your mobile needs. Neither are especially important to me, and I’ve been able to enjoy the wonderful convenience of the folding design with few concerns, provided I remember to charge it every night. I’d consider an upgrade if I owned a Galaxy Z Flip 5, but not if I owned a Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Overall, I've enjoyed my time with this flexible Galaxy smartphone. Sure, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 still won't suit power users who are constantly snapping or streaming. But I find I can do everything I need to with around 5-6 hours of screen on time per day. That includes camera capture and video chats, mixing it up between the cover and main screens. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 can cope with gaming on the go. BUT, Wuthering Waves runs best with lower graphics settings and this foldable phone does get quite toasty under pressure. Sadly the camera setup hasn't been upgraded at all vs the Z Flip 6. But all the same, this Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 can capture some decent looking pics and home movies, and is especially good for selfie fans. Just expect the usual Sammy processing shenanigans.

I’ve really enjoyed the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The very action of opening and closing the phone is always a joy, despite the snappy action, and the phone feels futuristic and unusual. I love how convenient it is, the large inner screen is great for video, and the multi-tasking features make it useful. The camera is fun, especially if you take a lot of selfies or group photos, and the cover screen’s updated tech makes it look excellent. What the Galaxy Z Flip 7 isn’t is a hardcore gaming machine or a battery life monster. If those aspects are important to you, this will not meet your mobile needs. Neither are especially important to me, and I’ve been able to enjoy the wonderful convenience of the folding design with few concerns, provided I remember to charge it every night. I’d consider an upgrade if I owned a Galaxy Z Flip 5, but not if I owned a Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Overall, I've enjoyed my time with this flexible Galaxy smartphone. Sure, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 still won't suit power users who are constantly snapping or streaming. But I find I can do everything I need to with around 5-6 hours of screen on time per day. That includes camera capture and video chats, mixing it up between the cover and main screens. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 can cope with gaming on the go. BUT, Wuthering Waves runs best with lower graphics settings and this foldable phone does get quite toasty under pressure. Sadly the camera setup hasn't been upgraded at all vs the Z Flip 6. But all the same, this Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 can capture some decent looking pics and home movies, and is especially good for selfie fans. Just expect the usual Sammy processing shenanigans.

I really liked this year’s Razr Ultra, but Motorola increased the price of its handset to $1,899, which is a little much. Compared to $1,462, Samsung’s handset seems like a better option. Of course, the Razr Ultra has a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a 4,700mAh battery, a 50-megapixel triple camera setup, 16GB of RAM and more, which makes it more ‘Ultra’ than the Z Flip 7. It’s impressive that Samsung is not raising the price of the Z Flip 7 in Canada, but also providing a better experience. While the phone itself isn’t all that exciting, especially compared to the Razr Ultra, the Z Flip 7 might be foldable if you want a solid experience but don’t want to pay $1,900. Of course, I’ll need to put this through its paces before making any concrete judgments.

Well, I’ll be more sure after the full reviews but, based on this initial hands-on time, I’m more impressed than I expected to be. The new cover display is doing a lot of heavy lifting there, but I also like the sound of some of the software features. And, of course, the biggest perk of choosing the Z Flip 7 is the extensive software support.

Though not quite as revolutionary an upgrade as the Z Fold 7, I think the Galaxy Z Flip 7 has enough to shout about. The larger cover screen, in particular, should make a huge difference to the Flip experience, allowing it to better compete with alternatives from Motorola and Xiaomi while adding a distinctly premium look to the foldable, which, dare I say, was missing before. The lack of any camera hardware changes is a little disappointing to see, but the added camera features – from new filters to a new auto shooting mode – arguably cater more to the Flip user’s needs than a high-res zoom lens. This is a phone designed for selfie takers, after all, and I wager that the 50MP main camera will do just as good a job as ever at that. Some might bemoan the use of the Exynos chipset, but I’d argue that flip-style foldables can rarely handle the thermals that come with top-end performance anyway, so for a less power-hungry user, it’s more than enough.

Honestly, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is approaching the limits of how thin it can be, due to how phones have to accommodate the USB-C port. Of course, they can always skip the port entirely, and just go with wireless charging, but that's an altogether different story for another time.

Though not quite as revolutionary an upgrade as the Z Fold 7, I think the Galaxy Z Flip 7 has enough to shout about. The larger cover screen, in particular, should make a huge difference to the Flip experience, allowing it to better compete with alternatives from Motorola and Xiaomi while adding a distinctly premium look to the foldable, which, dare I say, was missing before. The lack of any camera hardware changes is a little disappointing to see, but the added camera features – from new filters to a new auto shooting mode – arguably cater more to the Flip user’s needs than a high-res zoom lens. This is a phone designed for selfie takers, after all, and I wager that the 50MP main camera will do just as good a job as ever at that. Some might bemoan the use of the Exynos chipset, but I’d argue that flip-style foldables can rarely handle the thermals that come with top-end performance anyway, so for a less power-hungry user, it’s more than enough.

Having created the current foldables market, Samsung has spent the last few iterations playing catchup as Chinese manufacturers started to out-design the Korean giant with slimmer models and even a tri-folding screen. But with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, Samsung is finally ready to show who's the king. The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a stunner. At 8.9mm thick, it's on par with the the Oppo Find N5, and just slightly thicker than the just-announced Honor Magic V5 (8.88mm thick). Honestly, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is approaching the limits of how thin it can be, due to how phones have to accommodate the USB-C port. Of course, they can always skip the port entirely, and just go with wireless charging, but that's an altogether different story for another time.

The thinner bezels on the Z Flip 7 are a great touch to make it look more like a premium phone, but the Z Fold 7’s slimmer design is the big news here. Making the pricey Z Fold 7 look and feel more worthy of its premium price is great, especially when you open it up to see that practically squarish 8-inch display. Combine both those devices with the more-affordable Z Flip 7 FE and the Galaxy Watch 8 models, and it’s not hard to see Samsung’s July Unpacked as a winning event this year. Samsung has focused on durability for the Galaxy Z Flip 7, so it should prove hardy - although both flip phones are IP48 rated. The real issue I had with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE while using it was the constant voice in my head reminding me of the price. $899 is expensive for what is effectively the Exynos Z Flip 6 that never was. If you can find a proper Galaxy Z Flip 6 for this price or even lower, it’s a better buy. A Samsung regional executive told me prior to launch that the Z Flip 7 FE was a contract play, allowing Flip 3 and Flip 4 owners to upgrade their contracts for the same price as their old Flip. That feels like a tacit admission that the Flip 7 is more expensive rather than the Z Flip 7 FE being more affordable. If you know how to shop, regular Samsung flip phones can be affordable. That's how I've gotten the ones I've owned. Samsung has some of the best deals anywhere which is why it's so hard to leave once you get one.

If you’re willing to spend a little extra, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 (review) offers a snazzier design, a bigger cover screen, and an overall more “wow” experience. The FE is charming, but the full Flip 7 is the one that will make you grin every time you open it… or even when it’s closed because that full cover screen is a stunner. Still, with any discounts going on, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is a nice little grab.

Plus, at $300 lower than the Flip 7, it’s a compelling offering. However, it is not as convincing when you consider the alternatives, such as the Galaxy Z Flip 6 or Razr 2025. Overall, while the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is a fairly confusing product, it’s a solid phone on its own but hampered by last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the excellent Galaxy Z Flip 7. Against the growing competition, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE struggles to stand out even though it’s a good, if unspectacular, folding phone.

On its lonesome, the Galaxy Flip 7 FE is a decent enough clamshell. It’s powerful enough for daily duties, takes clean and colourful photos, and arrives running the very latest version of Android. Samsung’s update commitments are also excellent, and OneUI is as feature-packed as they come – even if it still doesn’t quite unlock the cover screen’s full potential. The problem is you could say exactly the same about the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which is still readily available. The two are practically tied on specs, but the older handset can now be found at a significant discount from its original retail price. That makes it the obvious choice for anyone wanting a flip phone on a more modest budget. A hefty price cut – and Galaxy Z Flip 6 reserves finally running dry – could add to its appeal, but until then this is a Fan Edition phone that doesn’t do quite enough to earn its fans.

At the time of writing, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is selling for less than £600 brand new on Amazon. Obviously, that stock isn’t going to be around forever, but the point remains that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE feels overpriced. It’s a slightly inferior version of last year’s compact foldable model, but it sells for hundreds of pounds more. Factoring in the existence of the Motorola Razr 60, which outguns it in several key ways for £50 less, doesn’t really help the Flip 7 FE’s cause. For all that, there’s no denying that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is a tidy, accomplished compact foldable that’s available for £200 less than the fabulous Flip 7. Or that we rated this very phone (more or less) quite highly last year. It would be disingenuous to pretend that the Flip 7 FE is now suddenly a bad phone. It’s not. However, it’s equally fair to say that unless you can find a good deal, you probably shouldn’t buy it.

This budget model isn't actually cheap and more akin to the Flip 6 from last year. Battery life isn't as good, while the performance and features also can't match the Samsung Flip 7. But anyway, here's a proper side-by-side so you can see exactly what's changed and what I reckon, one week later.

That doesn't mean the Z Flip7 FE is bad, of course - it carries the typical traits of the lineup that make the Galaxy Flips possibly the most popular clamshells in existence. Fair enough, the 128GB model is currently £50 cheaper than the Galaxy Z Flip 6, you get the Now Brief feature, a new processor and one more year of software support, but none of those additions feel hugely advantageous, and I expect the Z Flip 6 will be discounted further in the very near future anyway.

Samsung: Die Samsung Group ist der größte südkoreanische Mischkonzern und wurde 1938 gegründet. In der Samsung-Gruppe waren 2014 489.000 Menschen beschäftigt, und sie gehört zu den weltweit größten Unternehmen gemessen an Umsatz und Marktstärke. Der Name Samsung bedeutet im Koreanischen "Drei Sterne" und repräsentiert die drei Söhne des Firmengründers. Das Unternehmen wurde 1938 als Lebensmittelladen gegründet. Mit der 1969 gegründeten Tochter Samsung Electronics nahm Samsung die Fertigung elektrotechnischer Artikel in Angriff, wobei man sich frühzeitig auf Unterhaltungselektronik und Haushaltsgeräte konzentrierte. Weitere Zweige, in denen der Großkonzern tätig ist, sind Maschinenbau, Automobile (Hyundai), Versicherung, Großhandel, Immobilien und Freizeit. Samsung stellt eine breite Palette von elektronischen Produkten her, darunter Smartphones, Fernsehgeräte, Haushaltsgeräte und Halbleiter. Die Galaxy-Smartphone-Reihe des Unternehmens ist eine der beliebtesten der Welt. Samsung ist auch ein wichtiger Akteur in der Halbleiterindustrie und stellt Speicherchips und Prozessoren für viele andere Elektronikhersteller her.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
