Nimmt man den Vorgänger als Maßstab, wirkt das Samsung Galaxy A57 eher wie eine Modellpflege mit gezielten Verbesserungen als wie ein komplett neues Smartphone. Ein klein wenig mehr Leistung und ein helleres Display, dazu noch ein paar Gramm weniger Gewicht - das ist alles ganz okay, aber auch keine wirkliche Innovation. Im Grunde ist das nicht schlecht, Samsung hat ein ohnehin schon gutes Smartphone einfach noch ein bisschen besser gemacht. Wenn du schon ein Galaxy A56 hast, ist es also kein wirklich lohnendes Upgrade. Aber wenn du zum Beispiel von einem älteren Gerät umsteigen willst, ist das Galaxy A57 durchaus interessant. Du bekommst ein schlankes Smartphone mit einem guten Display, solider Leistung und langer Update-Unterstützung. Dazu kommen noch einige Features, gerade im KI-Bereich, die zuvor der S-Serie vorbehalten waren.

Mit einem schönen, großen OLED-Display, einer langen Laufzeit sowie KI-Funktionen kann Samsung mit dem Galaxy A56 auch zum relativ kleinen Preis punkten. Auf 6,7 Zoll Diagonale zeigt das Smartphone satte Farben und bringt eine gute Helligkeit. Die Bildwiederholrate liegt bei geschmeidigen 120 Hertz. Im Alltag punktet auch die gute Leistung des Exynos-1580-Prozessors in Kombination mit acht GByte Arbeitsspeicher – ideal für Apps, Multitasking und einfaches 3D-Gaming. Der Akku sorgt im Samsung Galaxy A56 für eine sehr schöne Laufzeit von bis zu 17 Stunden im Dauerbetrieb. Der Ladevorgang ist hingegen nur durchschnittlich schnell. Unser Testmodell ist nach einer halben Stunde am Netzteil aber wieder für bis zu neun Stunden einsatzbereit. Kabellos lässt sich das Gerät nicht aufladen. Die sogenannte „Awesome Intelligence“ bietet im Galaxy A56 praktische KI-Features, die es beispielsweise erlauben, Objekte aus Fotos zu löschen, ohne dass es auffällt. Per "Circle to Search" lassen sich zudem Motive einkreisen und dann bei Google danach suchen. Mit der Triple-Kamera haben wir im Test schöne Fotos geschossen, eine Telelinse für hochwertige Zoom-Aufnahmen fehlt jedoch. Das Galaxy A56 liegt sehr gut in der Hand, ist vor Staub und Wasser geschützt und soll noch mindestens bis 2031 Updates erhalten.

Wir sind nicht begeistert davon, dass Samsung den Preis erhöht hat, angesichts des relativen Mangels an Fortschritten und der Existenz leistungsstärkerer oder spannenderer Konkurrenten zu einem günstigeren Preis. Sehr viele Menschen möchten jedoch einfach das beste Samsung-Smartphone innerhalb ihres Budgets. Und es war noch nie so einfach, das Top-Modell der Galaxy-A-Reihe zu empfehlen. Wenn Sie allerdings Geld sparen möchten, sollten Sie sich stattdessen das Galaxy A37 ab 310 Euro ansehen.

Es ist derzeit ab lediglich 297 Euro zu haben und da sich zum aktuellen A57 kaum etwas verändert hat, spricht nichts gegen das Vorjahresgerät, das um ungefähr 100 Euro günstiger ist. Nimmt man den UVP von 529 Euro des Galaxy A57 ist das Samsung-Handy nicht wirklich konkurrenzfähig. Um 50 Euro mehr gibt es nämlich bereits das besser ausgestattete und besonders schlanke Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge – sogar mit doppelt so viel Speicher (256 GB) – aus dem Vorjahr. Deutlich günstiger ist das hochwertigere Samsung Galaxy S25 FE. Es ist derzeit bereits um 470 Euro zu haben. Ähnlich sieht es bei anderen Herstellern aus. Folgende Geräte sind entweder ähnlich gut, ein bisschen besser ausgestattet oder stehen dem A57 nur bei wenigen Aspekten nach. Bei einem Preisvergleich sollte man auf jeden Fall die Speichergröße im Auge haben.

Dafür liefert der Samsung Exynos 1480 eine durchweg zuverlässige Alltagsleistung ohne Ruckler. Der große Akku erlaubt im Test eine angenehme Dauernutzungszeit von bis zu 18 Stunden. Nach einer halben Stunde am Kabel ist der Akku wieder zu 66 Prozent gefüllt - doch kabelloses Laden wird nicht unterstützt. Auch die Kamera bleibt abgespeckt. Der Hauptlinse stehen eine Ultraweitwinkel- und eine Makrokamera zur Seite, während auf einen dedizierten Telezoom verzichtet wird. Qualitativ können sich die Fotos gerade im verbesserten Porträtmodus durchaus sehen lassen. Ein etwas starkes Bildrauschen und der rein digitale Zoom hingegen bleiben mau. Der Kunststoffrahmen gibt dem Galaxy A37 ein weniger edles, doch griffiges Äußeres bei einem angemessenen Gesamtgewicht knapp unter 200 Gramm. Recht moderne Standards wie Wi-Fi 6, 5G-Mobilfunk und selbst eine Dual-eSIM-Unterstützung sind an Bord. Softwareupdates soll es noch bis 2032 geben.

Das Galaxy A57 macht vieles richtig und wenig falsch. Es ist eine Art VW Golf der Smartphone-Welt: Unaufgeregt und altbekannt - dafür aber auch verlässlich, in Würde alternd und optisch am Puls der Zeit. Wenn mich jemand nach einem Smartphone fragt, das viel kann und eher weniger kostet, kann ich es blind empfehlen. Was fehlt - und das ist mir bereits bei der Galaxy S26 Reihe aufgefallen - ist das gewisse Etwas. Nothing macht das beispielsweise mit seinem außergewöhnlichen Design, Vivo mit einer kompetitiven Tele-Kamera überraschend gut. Samsung setzt da eher auf Bewährtes. Das dürfte grundsätzlich auch nicht schaden - auch das neue Samsung Galaxy A57 wird zu Recht zu den meistverkauften Samsung Smartphones zählen.

And, of course, that excellent software support remains a key advantage. Samsung fans looking to avoid the high prices of the S series will find the A57 to be the ideal, cost-conscious alternative. If you’re brand-agnostic, however, the Google Pixel 10a is better value overall. The cameras are stronger, the battery lasts longer and you get an extra year of software support.

It’s a capable phone with a brilliant display built into a big phone that’s remarkably lightweight and thin-feeling. Any compromises, like imperfect cameras, performance and battery life, are largely expected at this price point. Costing just over £/$500 for the base model is about on par with what you’d expect for this phone from Samsung. What’s a little harder to accept is that if you want more storage than the 256GB base model, you’re going to need nearly £/$200 more to get it. And at that price, you can get a much better phone from just about anyone.

It’s a bit of a funny situation, but the truth of the Samsung Galaxy A57 is that while it’s basically a cheaper alternative to the top dogs, it mostly makes sense as a buy if you don’t care too much about value. Most other phones at this price are far more powerful, and some are more overtly feature-packed. And while Samsung hits back with top-quality construction and materials, that may not quite be enough for some. Highlights include a solid primary camera and good speakers, but Samsung really needs to get up-to-date with battery tech to make the next Galaxy A phone like this a real competitor for the less geeky shopper working to a sensible budget (same can be said of the S series too). That said, though, I’ve enjoyed using the Galaxy A57 more than some of its more value-packed rivals because of that extra attention to the basics I notice every day. And that'll go a long way for many prospective buyers.

The Galaxy A57 is a very balanced phone with hardly any shortcomings so it's well worth a recommendation, but until it gets a price cut, it will remain a hard sell.
