Teures Desktop-Replacement mit hervorragender Leistung

Fazit: Das Alienware Aurora m7700 präsentiert sich als kompromissloser Desktopersatz mit enormer Leistung. Nur die teuersten und besten Komponenten kommen im Notebook zum Einsatz. Dank der superschnellen FX-60-CPU von AMD, dem zwei GByte fassenden Arbeitsspeicher, Festplatten-Raid und nicht zuletzt der Geforce Go 7800 GTX mit 256 MByte Grafikspeicher erzielt das Alienware Aurora m7700 in allen Anwendungsbereichen hervorragende Ergebnisse. Abgerundet wird der 5,75 Kilogramm schwere Bolide von einem umfangreichen Schnittstellenaufgebot, das keine Wünsche offen lässt. Auch exotische Anschlüsse, wie etwa die beiden PS-2-Ports, sowie ein oftmals vermisster DVI-Anschluss zur Ansteuerung digitaler Monitore, findet sich auf der Rückseite des Aurora m7700.

Fazit: Das Notebook ist voll spieletauglich, zeigt aber Schwächen in der Praxis. Die Akkuleistung beträgt lediglich etwa 80 Minuten, die Energieaufnahme liegt bei 165 Watt im 3D-Betrieb.

Fazit: Nach Cyber System und Dell kann nun auch Alienware ein Notebook mit Nvidia Geforce Go 7800 GTX liefern. Das Aurora m7700 wurde konsequent auf Leistung getrimmt. Wem 6 kg nicht zu schwer und 4.300 Euro nicht zu teuer sind, der bekommt mit dem Aurora m7700 ein sehr schnelles Notebook. Ausserdem sind die Lüftergeräusche zu laut.

Überirdische Monstermaschinen

Fazit: Die Realität immer detailgetreuer und echter in Computerspielen abzubilden, fordert einiges an Ressourcen. Games wie Need for Speed: Most Wanted oder auch der neue Flight Simulator aus dem Hause Microsoft schrauben ihre Erwartungen an die Systeme immer höher, um optimal laufen zu können. Alienware bietet Komplettsysteme als Desktop, aber auch als 'Notebook' an, mit denen man für aktuelle, aber auch kommende Games hervorragend gewappnet sein wird. Positive Aspekte: hervorragende Ausstattung und Features; enorme Performance. Negative Aspekte: hohes Gewicht; kostenintensiv.

Fazit: Alienware is perhaps, thanks to its extraterrestrial designs and robust gaming systems, the most well-known boutique vendor in the PC business. Continuing the trend is the Aurora m7700 laptop ($4,169 direct) that's built with tons of processing power and 3D prowess, thanks to an AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 desktop processor and the nVidia GeForce Go 7800 GTX graphics card. Aside from the hit the price puts on your wallet, be prepared to handle some serious shoulder strain when lugging around this 12.4-pound monstrosity.

Fazit: One -- Performance, performance, performance. This is the fastest laptop on the market, bar none. The Athlon 64 FX-60 is blistering. I found it impossible to choke up, it devoured every program (or multiple programs) I threw at it. Another important aspect -- the Nvidia Go7800GTX 256MB video card. It's incredible. I didn't find a game I couldn't play maxed out. Not even FEAR, currently one of the hardest games to handle, posted a problem. Combine a 7800GTX and an FX-60, and you have one of the fastest gaming systems available today, all in a "portable" (compared to a desktop, that is) package. The hard drive also contributed to performance.

We're talking 17-inch WXGA+ wide-aspect screen, optional dual optical drives (our review model had just one), optional dual RAID hard disks (our unit included a single 160GB drive), four built-in speakers, a built-in 1.3-megapixel Webcam, an nVidia GeForce Go 7800 GTX graphics card with 256MB of RAM, a seven-in-one memory card reader, a USB floppy drive, and almost as many ports and connections as a desktop PC: serial, parallel, PS/2, DVI-I, two FireWire, four USB, S/PDF, S-Video-in, and S-Video-out.

Fazit: Reviewing an Alienware is always a fun experience due to the fact that you are almost guaranteed a super high specification system which is designed to hit 0-60 in a few seconds. With the case of Alienware’s high end laptops they create systems with the goal of being desktop replacements with no compromises. This review focuses on one such product with a mouth watering specification list comprising a 7800GTX backed up with 2gb of DDR400 ... and did we mention a FX-60 dual core CPU? Please take a moment to clean the drool from your keyboard before you read on.

Fazit: If you're a hard core gamer looking for a notebook that can handle today's cutting edge games, Alienware should be on your short list. With killer graphics cards and two excellent LCD options, the Aurora m7700 is ahead of the desktop replacement pack. Throw in AMD's notoriously excellent for gaming CPUs and the m7700 will put some FEAR in your gaming buddies hearts. Though not for the faint of muscle at over 12 pounds (crank that up a few pounds for the AC adapter), and not small desk friendly, the Aurora notebook is certainly much more portable and space saving than the desktop it replaces. Few of us have the pleasure of gaming 24/7, and the m7700 proves equally capable of handling MS Office work, Photoshop and software development.

Für das Alienware Aurora m7700 gibt es keinen Preisvergleich.

NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800

Diese Grafiklösung mit 12 Pixel-, 5 Vertex-Pipelines, 128/256 Bit, Shader 3.0 ist eine höhergetaktete Geforce Go 6800 ohne zusätzliche Pipelines und und dadurch mehr Stromverbrauch. Sie wird in unserem Grafikkarten-Vergleich in der Leistungsklasse 1 (1=beste, 6=schlechteste) angeführt. Sie ist vergleichbar mit aktuellen high end Desktop Grafikkarten vom Schlage einer X800 und 6800, jedoch etwas geringer getaktet und deshalb etwas langsamer. Neueste Spiele sollten mit allen Details flüssig laufen. Für Büroanwendungen und zum Surfen reicht es sowieso ohne Probleme. AMD Mobile Athlon 64

Das Rating der Taktfrequenzen ist vergleichbar mit den Taktraten des Pentium 4 M. Es ist ein 32 und 64 Bit Prozessor, der relativ schnell pro Megahertz ist und mittelmässig viel Strom verbraucht bzw. 17.1 Zoll Display

Mittlerweile etwas häufiger angebotene Standardformat für Desktop-Replacements. Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem. Prüfen Sie in unserer DPI Liste, welche Displays wie fein aufgelöst sind.

Ein derart hohes Gewicht ist nur für einen Desktop-Replacement-Laptop mit mindestens 17 Zoll-Display zu tolerieren und ist selbst dann sicherlich ein negativer Aspekt dieses Notebooks. Dieses Notebook über längere Strecken zu tragen ist zweifellos ebenso mühsam wie eine Nutzung auf dem Schoß, sodass nur ein Einsatz auf dem Schreibtisch in Betracht kommt.
