Vor langer Zeit angekündigt, jetzt erhältlich: Was leistet die schnellste mobile Grafikeinheit wirklich? PC Games Hardware testet die Mobility Radeon HD 5870 in Asus' G73J. Als erstes HD-5870-Notebook erreichte uns ein G73J von Asus. Das Muster befindet sich noch im Vorserienstatus, weshalb wir vorerst von einer Benotung absehen und uns auf die Benchmarks konzentrieren. So viel vorab: Die Verarbeitung des matten Gehäuses ist sehr gut, auch Touchpad und Tastatur überzeugen mit ihrer Ergonomie.

Bisher hatten wir 3 verschiedene Notebooks in unserer privaten Verwendung und die Unterschiede sind doch gewaltig. Natürlich bleibt es meisten eine Preisfrage, wie gut das Gesamtpaket abschneidet. Von den Möglichkeiten, was Einstellungen im Bios, Software und Overclocking betrifft, sind wir froh, dass wir uns für so ein außergewöhnliches Modell entschieden haben. Bisher standen nur die üblichen Hersteller wie Acer, HP oder Sony zur Auswahl, an denen es fast immer etwas auszusetzen gab. Erst Hersteller wie Alienware, MSI und Asus haben gezeigt, dass Notebooks auch mehr können, außer viel kosten und wenig leisten.

Available for just under £1,650, ASUS's G73JH notebook isn't cheap, but you do get a lot of bang for your buck. The ability to run the latest games with little sacrifices in image quality is a huge boon, and ASUS's Republic of Gamers bundle - which includes a gaming mouse, a SteelSeries Siberia headset and a RoG backpack - makes it a complete mobile gaming solution.

Throughout testing, we found this laptop to be a pleasure to work with. It combines attractive looks and superior gaming performance with an ambitious price point that leaves the competitive offerings a little flat. Though we were surprised to find that Asus didn't bundle any movie player software for the Blu-ray drive, we're hoping the bundle will include that in future SKUs of the product. And battery life could be improved upon, along with perhaps an SSD option for the top of the line model. But in our opinion, this product is the sweet spot for enthusiasts who want the most laptop for their moolah, without having to take on a second mortgage.

A giant, all-black 17-inch FullHD wide-screen gaming laptop with a Core i7 processor, 8GB of memory, dual 7,200rpm 500GB hard drives, a Blu-ray combo drive, and a 1GB ATI Radeon HD5870 graphics card for $1,700 is tough to ignore. Other than some niggling design complaints, the Asus G73JH-A1 is an excellent high-performance desktop replacement for gaming or other demanding tasks.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870: High-End Grafikkarte mit DirectX 11 Support basierend auf die Desktop HD5770. Der 128 Bit Speicherbus ist nur mit (G)DDR3 ein Flaschenhals (deutlich geringere Performance). Mit GDDR5 Grafikspeicher ist die HD 5870 schneller als eine GTX 285M sein und daher schnellste Einkerngrafikkarte in Anfang 2010 für Notebooks.

High-End Grafikkarten welche auch neueste und anspruchsvolle 3D Spiele in hohen Auflösungen und Detailstufen flüssig wiedergeben können. Durch den hohen Stromverbrauch, werden diese GPUs nur in großen und schweren Notebooks mit geringen Akkulaufzeiten angeboten.

720QM: Der Core i7-720QM war zur Zeit der Einführung der langsamste Core i7-9xx Quad Core Prozessor. Er taktet dank Turbo Modus automatisch zwischen 1.6-2.8 GHz. Außerdem unterstützt er Hyperthreading zur gleichzeitigen Abarbeitung von 8 Threads. 17.3": 17 Zoll Displaygrösse ist ein seit 2006 häufig angebotenes Standardformat für Desktop-Replacements. Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem. DTR sind hauptsächlich für stationären Schreibtischeinsatz vorgesehen, wo Gewicht und Energiehunger egal sind.
