The Coolpad Note 5 is priced Rs 10999, and this is slightly lesser than the popular Redmi Note 3. While the Redmi Note 3 comes with only 3GB of RAM, it has a powerful chipset in SD650. The Coolpad Note 5 is overall a good device with a premium look and feel, good display, decent software, and performance along with good battery life.

The smartphone gets a lot right and some wrong. I was happy with the performance even though it wasn’t as good in the benchmark result. The camera was probably a big disappointment as the quality did not match my expectations.

While the Coolpad Note 5 may have more RAM than its peers, it does seem to utilise it properly. In performance, it is soundly beaten by the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and the LeEco Le 2. The best aspect of the phone is its battery life. But even then, the Redmi Note 3 and the Redmi 3S Prime can offer the same battery life. I find it very hard to recommend the Coolpad Note 5 over those other phones because of its sub-par display and comparatively weaker performance.

Coolpad Note 3S

Coolpad hat das Note 3S gemeinsam mit seinem Mega 3 Bruder herausgebracht. Sein Preis ähnelt dem Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (welche beide aus irgendwelchen Grund ähnlich benannt sind). Es handelt sich um ein geradliniges Smartphone, dem es allerdings nicht an wichtigen Features mangelt und ist daher überlegenswert. Sein niedriger Preis weist nicht auf eine unterlegene Bauweise hin. Stattdessen wird es jenen gefallen, die nach guter Ware für ihr Geld suchen. In puncto Design ist das Note 3S sowohl an der Vorder- als auch an der Rückseite mit 2.5D-Glas beschichtet. Zudem nutzt es ein Chassis aus Aluminium-Legierung. Diese Merkmale sollen das Note S3 widerstandsfähiger und robuster machen. Sein Körper ist an den Ecken abgerundet wie es bei Oppo-Modellen üblich ist. Das Note 3S misst 154,50 x 77,00 x 8,60 mm und wiegt 167g. Es wird durch einen Qualcomm Snapdragon 415 Octa-Core-Prozessor mit einer Taktrate von 1,3 GHz und 3 GB RAM angetrieben. Diese Kombination ermöglicht grafikintensive Games, viele Apps und problemloses Multitasking.

Der verfügbare Speicher beträgt 32 GB und die Speicherkapazität kann um bis zu 32 GB erweitert werden. Das ist wohl beschränkter als bei anderen ähnlichen Smartphone-Modellen. Sein 5,5 Zoll großer IPS-Bildschirm löst in 720p auf. Hier verliert das Coolpad Note 3S deutlich gegenüber dem Redmi Note 3, welches einen 5,5 Zoll großen Full-HD-Bildschirm bietet. Zudem verfügt das Coolpad Note 3S über einen Fingerabdruckleser, welcher einfaches und schnelles Sperren und Entsperren sowie die Anpassung von Gesten für schnellere Netzwerkverbindungen ermöglicht. Für Fotografierfreudige ist das Smartphone mit einer 13-MP-Kamera an der Rückseite und einer 5-MP-Kamera an der Vorderseite ausgestattet. Beide Kameras nutzen jeweils eine f2.2-Linse. Da es sich um ein preisgünstiges Smartphone handelt kann man sich allerdings nicht viel von den Kameras erwarten. Das Note 3S unterstützt Dual-SIM und VolTE. Man mag sich wundern, warum Coolpad sich dazu entschlossen hat, das Note 3S, anders als das Mega 3, nicht mit drei SIM-Slots auszustatten.

Das Coolpad Note 3S läuft unter Android 6.0 Marshmallow mit Cool UI 8.0. Netzwerkverbindungen sind via Bluetooth und WiFi möglicht. Im Vergleich mit seinem Bruder verfügt es über einen weniger leistungsstarken 2500mAh. Es ist in zwei Farbvarianten verfügbar, nämlich gold und weiß und beide sehen gut aus. Das Coolpad Note 3S mag nicht voll gepackt mit umwerfenden Merkmalen sein, doch es erreicht in allen Aspekten hohe Ergebnisse und ist eine Option eines gut ausgestatteten sowie preisgünstigen Smartphones. Schließlich braucht nicht jeder User ein Smartphone für Gaming und intensives Multitasking.

It’s interesting to note that the main differences between this model and the now-discontinued Note 3 and Note 3 Plus are all on the outside. We'll say that there are a few good aspects and a few not-so-good things about the smartphone, We liked the build quality and design and found the performance to be mostly smooth. However, heating issues (during navigation) and bad battery life are downers. But at a price of Rs 8,199, you can't expect a smartphone to be flawless. We would suggest spending some more money and buying Coolpad Note 5 instead, however, if you are too tight on budget then Coolpad Note 5 Lite is not a bad option either.

But even being an offline-only brand isn’t enough to escape the clutches of the intense competition that the mid-range market is seeing. The battery life is certainly a high point but if you take into account the design and performance, you might see yourself moving on to other smartphones. The Coolpad Note 6 has a few strengths. It’s built well, looks presentable, and has good battery life. The Snapdragon 435 isn’t the most appealing SoC at this price, but it’s competent enough to handle the usual messaging apps and that odd game or two. The offline availability of this phone will be a big draw for many people who still prefer to try before they buy. Do keep in mind that the cameras are pretty mediocre and the display is relatively dull. Also, while the older version of Android doesn't really lack in essential features, Coolpad needs to rectify the outdated security.
