The X201 is a very strong offering and it’s in keeping with what we’ve seen from the ThinkPads over the last few years. The Core i-series processors marked a big step forward for the ultraportables, especially considering that the availability of the full-powered Core i5. The choice between the ThinkPad and the EliteBooks is getting tough though. Personally I don’t care about the optical drive, but I do really wish the ThinkPad had a digital video out option.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X201 offers quite a few solid features compared to the older X200. Users who prefer a Touchpad interface can now get it on the X201 and X201 Tablet, and even though it is netbook-sized it is still very usable. The newest Intel platform offers a huge boost in overall performance from the previous generation and in some cases doubled the 3D performance.

With its faster processor and new Touchpad, in many ways the ThinkPad X201 is still the business tablet to beat. However, its faster performance comes with a significant drop in battery life (from 7 hours to 5 hours in the case of our configuration), so if having all-day endurance is important to you and the original X200 tablet is still available when you're shopping, you may want to consider the older model.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Intel HD Graphics oder GMA HD genannte onboard Grafikkarte welche im Package der Core i3/i5/i7 Arrandale Dual-Core Prozessoren untergebracht wird. Je nach Prozessormodell maximal mit 500 bis 766 MHz getaktet (Turbo Boost). Von Lenovo anscheinend auch GMA5700MHD genannt. Die gleichgenannte Intel HD Graphics Prozessorgrafik in den Sandy Bridge Prozessoren basiert auf einer neueren Architektur.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

Intel Core i5:

540M: Der Core i5-540M ist ein schneller Dual-Core Prozessor und besitzt im Vergleich zum i7-620 nur 3MB L3 Cache und taktet ebenfalls zwischen 2.53-3.07 GHz (je nach Auslastung dank Turbo Boost). Durch Hyperthreading werden bis zu 4 Threads gleichzeitig bearbeitet. Im Package ist auch noch eine integrierte Grafikkarte (GMA HD mit 766 MHz) und ein Speichercontroller (beide noch 45nm Fertigung). 12.1": Es handelt sich um ein relativ häufiges Displayformat für Subnotebooks. Es stellt die durchschnittliche Grösse für Subnotebooks dar. Netbooks dagegen haben noch kleinere Displays. Der Vorteil von Subnotebooks liegt darin, dass das Notebook klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Der kleine Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten etwas anstrengend für die Augen ist. Hohe Auflösungen sind nur bedingt nutzbar.

82.5%: Diese Bewertung muss man eigentlich als durchschnittlich ansehen, denn es gibt etwa ebenso viele Notebooks mit besseren Beurteilungen wie Schlechteren. Die Verbalbeurteilungen klingen aber oft besser als sie wirklich sind, denn richtig gelästert wird über Notebooks eher selten. Obwohl dieser Bereich offiziell meist einem "Befriedigen" entspricht, passt oft eher "mäßiger Durchschnitt".
