Apple-Referenz. Das MacBook Pro 17“ ist Apples Top-Modell im Bereich der Mobilcomputer und vereint stilvoll hohe Leistungsfähigkeit mit vorbildlicher Mobilität. Die aktuelle Version hat nun eine Frischzellenkur im Inneren erhalten und bietet mit Core i7-2720QM und umschaltbarer Grafik inklusive Radeon HD 6750M eine potente Kombination. Wie gut sich das MBP gegenüber der Konkurrenz behaupten kann, haben wir getestet.

Die 250 Euro Aufpreis für den schnelleren Prozessor lohnen sich nur für die wenigsten Anwender. 3-11% Mehrleistung konnten wir in den synthetischen Prozessorbenchmarks auslesen. Auch die Grafikperformance der integrierten Intel Grafik kann durch den größeren Cache profitieren.

Abgesehen von Intels HD-3000-Grafik liefern alle Komponenten der neuen MacBooks erheblich mehr Leistung als bei den Vorgängern. Und bis auf das 250 Euro teurere 17-Zoll-Modell kosten alle MacBooks so viel wie die Vorgänger. Verschlechtert haben sich allerdings Akkulaufzeit und besonders auch die Arbeitsgeräusche.

Immer noch einzigartig ist die Kombination aus hoher Leistungsfähigkeit, geringem Gewicht und langer Akkulaufzeit. Eindeutig für Mac OS X entwickelt, kommen auch nur mit diesem Betriebssystem alle Stärken voll zur Geltung. Dynamische Grafik, längere Akkulaufzeit und voller Funktionsumfang der integrierten Komponenten sind nur beim regulären System vorhanden.

Die neue Thunderbolt-Schnittstelle verspricht eine schnelle Anbindung an externe Hardware, mangels entsprechender Peripherie kann man dies aber noch nicht nutzen. Die Systemhänger unter Volllast sind Anlass zur Sorge, auch wenn die genaue Ursache dafür noch unbekannt ist.

Add to that the cost of any of the aforementioned adapters, which might involve a new found love of the ExpressCard/34 slot, if you get really desperate. Yup, it is, quite simply, out of my price range. The Top Gear team spend less than that on second-hand Bentleys. Yet it does deliver an exceptional user experience. So ask your employer to buy you one, or get the next-best alternative: the 15in model. Either way, no-one will convince me that it’s money badly spent.

Thankfully, the 2011 version has increased the overall performance and features with a new quad core processor, larger hard drive and AMD graphics. It remains one of the sleekest and longest running laptops in its class. While the Thunderbolt port has some great potential, it really just functions like a DisplayPort for now.

AMD Radeon HD 6750M: Dem Codenamen zu urteilen eine 6650M mit GDDR5 Speicher und dadurch ebenfalls mit von UVD3 und Eyefinity+.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem.
