Man muss ja aufs Geld schauen. Also ich mache das zumindest… Wenn 128 GB reichen, dann biste mit 399 Euro dabei.

EN→DESince using the iPad 11, it's become clear to me that this is the tablet that suits my needs. Sure, the latest iPad Air may boast a literal laptop chip for MacBooks, while the iPad Pro comes with an even stronger silicon and a gorgeous OLED display, but if all I want from a portable slate is to browse through websites, watch videos or shows the best streaming services and play some mobile-friendly games, why pay more when the more affordable base iPad achieves all that for less? That's an appealing sentiment for many, and that's why the iPad 11 shines. Its A16 chip propels the tablet to new heights, gaining enough performance to breeze through many of the most popular and even demanding games.

EN→DEApple has finally upgraded its entry-level iPad to the 11th generation, and while it doesn’t bring major changes, it keeps the lineup fresh. The A16 chip delivers fast, responsive performance in iPadOS 18, making this 10.9-inch iPad more than capable for everyday tasks. It still comes in fun colors, and weighs just over a pound, even with cellular. There's no support for Apple Intelligence here, but if you don’t need those advanced features, the 11th-gen iPad might offer everything you need, without you having to make the step up to an iPad Air.

EN→DEThe basic iPad is probably the best-selling iPad because of its solid gaming performance and multimedia potential. It's great for most mainstream use cases and is the ideal tablet for home, school, work, etc. With the power of the AppStore and A16, it can do almost anything. For everything else - there are the Air and Pro modes. The Android tablet segment has grown in the last few years with some solid offers, so if you are not dead set on the iPad OS, you may want to check out what Xiaomi, OnePlus and Samsung have on offer. At the end of the day, this €399 iPad will sell well because it's the cheapest iPad available and it ties in nicely with Apple's ecosystem of devices. Cheap does not mean bad, because this device is well-executed and is quite powerful. We only wish the screen was more contrasty and the speakers were boomier, but less demanding users will easily look past these flaws and will appreciate the smooth user experience.

EN→DEAfter a week letting the iPad take the wheel for a lot of what I’d normally do on my laptop or phone, I’m happy to say that even Apple’s entry-level tablet offers a pretty good (if not great) experience. So, while I will argue that a more-affordable iPad should exist, there’s nothing that bad about this one, as should be the case when we’re talking about a $350 gadget that’s either the second- or third-most-important screen in your living room. At the end of the day, I’d argue that the vast majority of those who want a tablet should probably get the basic iPad. Only those looking to sync text messages with an Android device or desire a windowed app experience really need to look elsewhere.

EN→DEThe regular iPad (A16) is an excellent model if you’re looking for an Apple tablet that doesn’t cost the earth and delivers the basics very well. It offers a superb build quality, solid performance and a great battery life, alongside an intuitive software experience from iPadOS. The display isn’t as good as the iPad Air (M3), there’s no Apple Intelligence support and as with other iPads, charging is slow and accessories have to be bought separately. This iPad is almost half the price of the iPad Air (M3) however, and compared to the 2022 model, you get a performance boost, more RAM and double the storage for that money, none of which you can really argue with.

EN→DEAt the time of writing, you can buy an 11th-generation iPad for only $299 (typically $349). That alone makes it a better choice than the previous generation. If you're wondering which base model iPad is most worth the money, this latest iPad is it. It has upgraded features for a lower price, and it is likely all you'll need if you're looking for an everyday tablet. The frills and features of the faster, more powerful iPad Air or iPad Pro are attractive, but the truth is that they're likely excessive for most people. If you're looking for a tablet to do light work on the go, edit some short videos, stream content, or play games, the iPad base model won't disappoint. Suppose you're more of a power user and intend to use heavier apps like Final Cut Pro for iPad, for example, to edit longer videos. In that case, I'd recommend a higher-end model, like those mentioned above.

EN→DEDespite a couple of drawbacks, the 11th-generation base iPad is still the best iPad for most people, thanks to a reasonable starting price with significantly more base storage, a newer processor, solid battery life, and decent performance for the price. While the iPad 11 might look identical to the iPad 10, it boasts some significant improvements in performance and battery life that make it a worthy upgrade and a great all-around budget pick. The Magic Keyboard Folio and Apple Pencil USB-C aren't perfect accessories, but they're better than you might expect and make a well-rounded package for students or anyone on a budget. However, it would be nice if Apple had made the iPad 11 compatible with the Apple Pencil Pro (and finally quit advertising the discontinued Apple Pencil 1st Generation).

EN→DESo, wrapping up this review, I guess it’s pretty clear that the 2025 iPad is a solid entry-level tablet. It’s really not much of an upgrade over the 10th Generation iPad but better performance and more storage for less money? That’s always a good thing in my books! The one dilemma you always had with base iPads on previous models was how they had laughably low storage on the cheapest configuration. So if you’ve been looking to buy an affordable iPad, I don’t think it gets better than this. Although you don’t care about iPads and just want a reliable midrange tablet for everything, I think you should wait for the Xiaomi Pad 7 (review) instead. That thing has an equally premium design and powerful performance on top of a smoother 144Hz display and also arguably better software experience. Even the accessories, like a stylus and a keyboard, are much more affordable for the Xiaomi Pad 7 versus the iPad.

EN→DEIf all of this sounds a bit negative, then don’t take it too negatively. Although the iPad doesn’t compare favourably on price terms with its Android rivals, its display disappoints and its battery life is so-so, it’s still the best tablet around in its price range and that’s because of iPadOS and the sheer range of serious, tablet-specific software you can get on the platform. Androids options aren’t nearly as good. And although not many people use it in this way, with the addition of the Magic Keyboard Folio it does make a cracking little laptop replacement for not that much cash. There aren’t many sub-£600 laptops that are this nicely made with a screen this good.

EN→DEThe base iPad for 2025 isn't Apple's most powerful tablet, but it's the one most people should buy. The 11th-generation iPad is a well-made piece of hardware that has a good screen, solid performance, ample battery life, and better cameras than most other similar slates. While we wish Apple had taken things a little further across the board, the iPad's upgraded A16 chip gives it a modern engine to power most tablet necessities, such as browsing the web, playing games, and watching videos. For these reasons, and its $349 price, the iPad is our Editors' Choice for affordable tablets. Students and creators should think about upgrading to the iPad Air for its better screen, increased processing power, and Apple Intelligence, while serious professionals should consider the iPad Pro for its class-leading performance.

EN→DEThis is a fantastic tablet for its asking price. Apple went beyond its stingy ways by doubling the storage and giving a meaningful lift to the RAM capacity, without jacking up the sticker price. The build quality is lovely, and so is the sharp screen. On the performance side, it will handle your video streaming duties just fine. And like me, if you try too hard in games and shamelessly jump from one lobby to another in hopes of a rare victory, your demands will be met without any jitters or visual disasters. If your primary concern is a tablet for content consumption and basic web or app-based tasks, the vanilla iPad will serve your demands just fine. For better or worse, there's little competition on the Android side of the ecosystem at this price point.

EN→DEFor $349/£329, you get a first-class iPad with good performance and sufficient storage space. However, graphics performance is a weak point; there are better models for gamers. The iPad Air and Pro are superior in many areas and offer better displays, but they are very expensive. More casual users should also consider the elegant iPad mini, which offers a smaller but better display and higher performance and is often overlooked. The lack of support for Apple Intelligence is regrettable, but it will probably be another year before the function is fully developed. And in any case, ChatGPT and Gemini are available as standalone apps on the iPad so you’re not missing out completely.

EN→DEThe 11th Gen iPad is familiar, yet objectively better than the 10th Gen model. For the same price, you are now getting twice the onboard storage at 128GB and a faster processor. It has a lovely build quality, offers a sharp display, and happens to be a reliable performer. The 12MP CenterStage front camera offers a fantastic video-calling experience. For $349, the 11th Gen iPad is a lot of tablet goodness, and overwhelmingly the best tablet deal out there. The whole hardware-software camaraderie on display here is simply unbeatable. Where it stings is the peripheral tax. For the low-stakes computing requirement with this entry-level tablet, I can easily recommend skipping Apple’s gear and switching to options such as the excellent ESR Geo Digital Stylus and third-party keyboard case from the likes of Logitech.

EN→DEWhat is an iPad? This isn't a trick question. To some, it's just a good big screen for creative use or entertainment, a larger iPhone or a useful, versatile gaming-video-check-messages-and-look-at-photos tablet. The iPad can be more than that, but it doesn't have to. And if you don't need the bells and whistles, then Apple's basic iPad -- still called the "iPad" -- is your pick. For most people, I think that's exactly what the iPad should be. For years, the entry-level iPad as been my top pick for best iPad, and that's not because fancier iPads aren't better. They are better, faster, nicer and have gorgeous displays. But at $349 (£329, AU$599) for the basic iPad, which now has 128GB of storage and an A16 processor, that sounds just right. Now, are you considering turning your iPad into a laptop?

EN→DEStarting at $349 and now with 128GB of base storage, the iPad (A16) is a great deal, no two ways about that. It's the perfect tablet for most people, especially those who are in the Apple ecosystem and aren't really concerned with the premium features found on the iPad Air or iPad Pro lineups. With decent performance and good battery life, it's the no-nonsense tablet for those who just need an extra screen without too much extra fanfare. Then again, you need to be aware of its limitations as well. The screen is probably the weakest part of the equation here: it's just not good. Dim, non-laminated IPS LCD screens are terribly outdated as per the 2025 standards, that's a fact.

EN→DEDespite its modest specs, there’s a good chance the iPad 11 is all the tablet you need. It easily handles the sort of things we generally need our computers to do, like social media and online shopping. And a tablet is easier to use while lounging on a couch than a notebook will ever be. Apple speed-boosted the iPad 11 with an A16 processor, making an already good tablet just a bit better. But it didn’t go far enough to let the computer make use of Apple Intelligence, a puzzling failure. Still, this is a brilliant product for the price.
