Between great general computing performance for any college student or executive and long-lasting battery life, the base $799 options make a ton of sense. Add a thin and lightweight design, and there’s much to appreciate here. However, there are some drawbacks, like a weak webcam and speakers, plus some missing features.

The Dell 16 Plus strikes a balance between value and capability, especially if you buy at the right moment. The $1,149 entry model we tested captures the laptop's core strengths: CoPilot+ support, a crisp display, a sturdy metal chassis, and lengthy battery life. With patience, however, the deal becomes much more compelling; during our review period, its price dropped to $749, shifting the equation considerably. Dell also sells higher-end configurations with Core Ultra 9 silicon and mini LED touch displays, but they’re in an entirely different pricing bracket, even when on sale as they often are. Either way, Dell’s 16-inch midranger is a well-rounded pick for general audiences and students. Its drawbacks, like slightly lagging performance and a heavier-than-expected carry weight, are worth noting but don’t spoil the package. Time your purchase with a Dell sale if you can, but know that even at its list price, the Dell 16 Plus rates our Editors' Choice award for midrange desktop replacement laptops.

I like the Dell 16 Plus a lot. But when it comes to value, the price is a big factor: At $1,149 retail, I’m a lot less excited than the $799 or less price I see right now! It’s not just about the internals: Decisions like including both a fingerprint reader and an IR camera show Dell going above and beyond what it needs to at this price range. ooking over the benchmarks, I wasn’t as thrilled as I expected to be: Lunar Lake is all about battery life improvements, but the base Dell 16 Plus uses that efficiency upgrade to drop the battery size. I reviewed last year’s Dell Inspiron 16 Plus with Meteor Lake, which was packing a larger 90 Watt-hour battery, and that machine delivered longer battery life along with stronger multithreaded performance. (Of course, last year’s model is heavier and this new Lunar Lake-powered system has better graphics performance.)

Intel Arc 140V: Schnelle integrierte Grafikkarte, die in den schnelleren Intel Lunar Lake Prozessoren zum Einsatz kommt. Die 140V verfügt über 8 Xe²-Architekturkerne (Battlemage), die mit bis zu 2.050 MHz laufen, und 8 Raytracing-Einheiten. Sie ist DirectX 12 Ultimate-fähig und unterstützt alle modernen Video-Codecs. 

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
