Jahrelang schienen ThinkPads der T-Serie weniger modular zu werden. Damit ist Schluss, das Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 kehrt zurück zu einem Design mit zwei SO-DIMM-Slots. Auch sonst ist es ein toller Office-Laptop, auch wenn Intel-Meteor-Lake-U etwas an Leistung vermissen lässt.

And it’s not even as repairable as a Framework laptop, although it does come from a name you can be sure will be around in ten years. Meanwhile, some of the benchmark testing is hard to ignore. In my everyday usage, I didn’t notice that the laptop seemed any slower than others I’ve used in recent months.

EN→DEThe Intel version of the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 is a well-built office machine with a capable keyboard, modern port selection, and snappy performance. That’s due to the high clocks of the CPU which is impressive given the single-heat pipe thermal system with a quiet fan. The 1200p screen (NV140WUM-N49 (LEN403D)) is a regular IPS model that is good enough for work. The unit is PWM-free and offers a pretty high max brightness of 455 nits. If you want better sRGB coverage, look for a machine with the optional 2.2K or 2.8K OLED variants. For future upgrades, you can rely on a pair of SODIMMs for DDR5-5600MHz RAM. However, we don’t like the fact that the Wi-Fi card is soldered and the limited storage capabilities because of the single M.2 slot. Still, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 is one of the best devices in its class thanks to the adequate built quality, the very long battery life, and the many security features.

AMD oder Intel - Lenovo gibt den Kunden beim ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 die Wahl. Das ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 AMD überzeugt in unserem Test mit einer tollen Ausstattung und hohen Leistung, die allerdings einen Preis hat.

Lenovo:
Lenovo („Le“ vom englischen legend, novo (Latein) für neu) wurde 1984 als chinesische Computerhandelsfirma gegründet. Ab 2004 war die Firma der größte Laptop-Hersteller Chinas und nach der Übernahme der PC-Sparte von IBM im Jahr 2005 der viertgrößte weltweit. Neben Desktops und Notebooks stellt das Unternehmen Monitore, Beamer, Server etc her und hat sich auf die Entwicklung, Herstellung und Vermarktung von Unterhaltungselektronik, Personalcomputern, Software, Unternehmenslösungen und damit verbundenen Dienstleistungen spezialisiert.
Im Jahr 2016 belegte das Unternehmen weltweit den ersten Platz bei den Computerverkäufen. Auch 2023 hatte es ihn noch inne bei ca 23% Weltmarktanteil. Wichtige Produktreihen sind Thinkpad, Legion und Ideapad.
2011 wurde die Mehrheit der Medion AG übernommen, einem europäischen Computer-Hardware-Hersteller. 2014 wurde Motorola Mobility gekauft, wodurch Lenovo einen Schub am Smartphone-Markt erreichte.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
Intel Graphics 4-Core: Integrierte Grafikkarte basierend auf die Xe LPG Architektur (ähnlich zu den dedizierten Arc GPUs, jedoch mit Fokus auf Effizienz). Bietet 4 Xe Kerne (64 Xe Vector Engines) und 4 Raytracing Einheiten.
AMD Radeon 780M: Integrierte Grafikkarte in den Rembrandt Ryzen APUs basierend auf der RDNA 3 Architektur mit 12 CUs (= 768 Shader) und einer Taktrate von bis zu 3.000 MHz.

Ultra 5 125U: Auf der Meteor-Lake-Architektur basierender High-End Mobilprozessor. Bietet 2 Performance-Kerne mit bis zu 4,3 GHz (inkl SMT) und 8+2 Effizienzkerne mit bis zu 3,6 GHz und kann daher 14 Threads gleichzeitig bearbeiten.
AMD Hawk Point (Zen 4/4c): Refresh of the Phoenix series with higher clocks on the AI engine. Includes Ryzen 8000 and Ryzen 200 parts.
R7 8840U: High-End-Mobil-8-Kern Prozessor mit 16 Threads. Taktet mit maximal 5,1 GHz auf einem Kern und kann dadurch in Single- und auch Multi-Thread-Anwendungen überzeugen. Nutzt die Zen 4 Architektur und hat einen konfigurierbaren TDP von 15-30 Watt. Technisch identisch zum Ryzen 7 7840U, jedoch mit höher getakteten Ryzen AI Engine und dadurch deutlich gesteigerter AI Leistung.

14.00:
14 Zoll Display-Grösse stellt ein Mittelding zwischen den kleinen Subnotebook-Formaten und den Bildschirmen der 15 Zoll-Standard-Laptops dar.
Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist, gute Auflösungen mit brauchbaren Detailgrößen liefern und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können.
Früher waren 14 Zoll-Geräte sehr selten, jetzt stellen sie nach den 15-Zollern den Standard bei Laptops dar.
