My personal take? A 15.6", 5 pound convertible is just too big for frequent use as a convertible. The 14" ThinkPad Yoga 14 is my cut off. You of course, may be different, and Lenovo seems to have removed the 14" model from their website, so if you want a ThinkPad Yoga bigger than the 12.5" model, it's the 15.6" model for you.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15 may be difficult to categorize, with its combination of desktop-replacement design and convertible functionality, but the end result is a competent business laptop. Unfortunately, the convertible design feels like something of a waste in this 15-inch, 5.1-pound system, as it's far too large for tablet use, though you may get some use out of Tent and Stand modes. In the end, it's best viewed as a solid business system with touch capability. The most comparable Editors' Choice, the Apple MacBook Pro 15-Inch Retina Display, bests it in both performance and battery life, while other alternatives, like the workstation Dell Precision M3800 (2015) offer more processing muscle.

The ThinkPad Yoga 15 is a good alternative to other 15.6″ business notebooks if you’re interested in the versatility of the fold-back design. This allows the Yoga 15 to work as a tablet although you’ll find it’s quite cumbersome and heavy and probably shouldn’t be viewed as a device that can replace your iPad. Realistically it’s just not designed to be a tablet all the time. The Yoga 15 has a beautiful screen with touch, a spacious keyboard, a good clickpad and has respectable speakers.

In conclusion, we'll repeat what we said at the beginning: the ThinkPad Yoga 12 is almost perfect as a laptop that smoothly converts to tablet, tent, and stand modes. The ThinkPad Yoga 15, by contrast, is a convertible with a rougher ride—its engineering is just as fine, but its size and weight eclipse its usefulness in tablet and tent modes (although it's a great PowerPoint presenter in stand mode).

There is always the risk that a laptop built around a Core i5 with Intel graphics and Intel ac Wi-Fi will end up being a generic slab that is indistinguishable from the competition. Thankfully Lenovo takes things a step further and the look and feel of a ThinkPad are quite distinct. You get the traditional TrackPoint in the middle of the keyboard, separate mouse buttons, a OneLink connector for a Lenovo dock and a host of Lenovo utilities to keep your laptop in perfect working order.

Lenovo packed this 2-in-1 machine with a gorgeous screen, a solid trackpad and a healthy selection of ports. If you don't mind a few extra pounds, then this hybrid is ideal for the business user who seldom needs portability, but enjoys having the option.

The $999 ThinkPad Yoga 15 isn't just a great business convertible; it has almost everything I look for in an ideal notebook. It delivers solid performance, seriously good graphics chops for the price and long battery life, all in a package that bends and flexes to my will without breaking my back, or itself. And if you need more performance, a Core i7 CPU is just an extra $100.

Modell: Das Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15 ist ein flexibler Laptop mit einem 360-Grad-Scharnier, mit welchem es als Laptop und Tablet verwendet werden kann. Je nach Anforderungen des Nutzers, ist es entweder einen Intel Core i5 oder Core i7 Prozessor, bis zu 8 GB of DDR3L RAM und bis zu 256 GB SSD SATA-Speicher ausgestattet. Es nutzt eine NVIDIA GeForce 840M mit 2 GB VRAM um seinen 15,6 Zoll großen, matten IPS-Bildschirm mit Full-HD Auflösung (1920 x 1080 Pixel) anzusteuern.

Die Front-Kamera nimmt mit bis zu 720p auf und die einzigartige Tastatur wird für einen angenehmen Tablet-Betrieb in den Körper versenkt, wenn der Bildschirm zurück gefaltet wird. Die Tastatur verfügt über einen Nummernblock und ein 3+2-Button-Clickpad. Das Gerät bietet folgende Schnittstellen: zwei USB-3.0-Ports, einen USB-2.0-Port, einen SD-Kartenleser und einen HDMI-Port. Zur Kommunikation stehen eine übliche WiFi-Karte und Bluetooth 4.0 zur Verfügung. Schließlich hält das Yoga 15 mit dem Standard-Akku bis zu 8 Stunden durch und wiegt nur 2.3 kg.

Für jene die die Lenovo Yoga Marke nicht kennen: Bei diesen flexiblen Geräten kann der Bildschirm 360 Grad nach hinten geschwenkt werden, wodurch sich der Laptop in ein Tablet verwandelt. Wer die vorige Generation des Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga kennt: Es wurde weithin als Design-Fehler erachtet, dass die Tastatur im Tablet-Mode in der Hand gehalten wird. Die neuesten 12 Zoll Lenovo Thinkpad Yogas weisen nun einen Mechanismus auf, der die Tasten in den Körper zurückzieht, sobald der Bildschirm im Tablet-Modus ist. Daher sind die Tasten nicht erhöht und können nicht gedrückt werden. Lenovo nennt diese Innovation "Lift-and-Lock"-System.

Mit einem Gewicht von 1,578 kg, ist das Gerät eher schwer für ein Tablet. Daher ist der integrierte Klappständer (die Tastatur) praktisch. Anwender können den Bildschirm im Zelt-Modus (Tent-Mode) oder Stand-Modus aufstellen, um die Tastatur aus dem Weg zu räumen. Für ein portables Notebook ist das Gerät leicht und der 12,5 Zoll IPS-Bildschirm sollte dank Full HD für gute Bilder sorgen. Im Inneren arbeitet ein Intel Prozessor der vierten Generation, sodass die Akkulaufzeit gut sein sollte. Verschiedene Haswell Chips bis zum i7 stehen zur Auswahl, wodurch viele Nutzer-Preferenzen abgedeckt sind. Eine gute Schnittstellenauswahl ermöglicht zahlreiche Business- und Entertainment-Szenarios.

NVIDIA GeForce 840M: Notebook-Grafikkarte der Mittelklasse, die auf der Maxwell-Architektur basiert. Wird in 28 Nanometern gefertigt und verfügt über ein 64 Bit DDR3-Speicherinterface.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
