Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is a good option for some looking for a sleek and lightweight smartphone under the price range of Rs.60000. The design, sturdiness and overall looks of the smartphone are impressive and eye-catching. Additionally, you can easily carry out your day-to-day tasks without facing any challenges, making it an ideal option. However, the camera lacks the hype and came out to be an average smartphone in terms of photography.

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra can be a good buy for anyone with a sub-Rs 60,000 budget looking for an all-rounder. While it may not match the processing power of the iQOO 12 or the camera capabilities of the Pixel 8, it stands out with its premium design, excellent display quality, and versatile cameras. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 ensures snappy performance, though not at flagship levels. Battery life is decent, and charging speeds are impressively fast. The AI features, while not revolutionary, keep the phone current. The software experience rivals that of the Pixels, though support could be more robust.

Overall, the Moto Edge 50 Ultra is a complete flagship smartphone. That too, at just Rs 54,999. Apart from the good display, performance, software, and camera, we are also getting all the premium features like IP68, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, wireless charging, and more. The smartphone also scores well in our AI tests and comes with enough AI features to keep up with the trend. So last two generations of Motorola’s Edge series of smartphones have made quite a mark in the smartphone space. The Edge 40 series from last year, and the Moto Edge 50 series of this year, both have been critically acclaimed across the consumer tech landscape. Since I didn’t get a chance to review or experience any of the Moto Edge 40 smartphones last year, I thought I’ll see what the hype is about with the Moto Edge 50 Ultra.

Motorola has produced a competitive flagship phone with a stellar design, strong camera, rapid charging, and beautifully clean software. There are some slight drawbacks with performance and battery life, and it’s technically more expensive than its predecessor, but this is otherwise a strong alternative to the usual flagship crowd.

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is certainly one of the better-looking flagship phones on the market with unique finishes and colour options, complete with a thin and light design that makes it a pleasure to hold and use. That’s backed up by a 6.67-inch OLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate that delivers smooth everyday performance, though the lack of LTPO tech present in practically all competitors at the £849 price point is a disappointment, especially when combined with the fact there’s no AOD functionality. Performance is pretty solid from the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chipset and a healthy 16GB RAM, handling both everyday tasks and gaming with ease, though the latter did make the smartphone uncomfortably warm after around 20 minutes of demanding gameplay.

At the end of the day, with the Edge 50 Ultra, Motorola has made a flagship that is cheaper than the competition and that offers good value for the money, but with some quirks you should know about. You get a triple camera system, you get the fast charging, you get more RAM and storage than you might ever need. You also get a phone with a stand-out and quite sleek design. To arrive at that lower price, Motorola has used a slightly less powerful chipset, but one that seems to be very power efficient. Unless you are a gamer who wants the best in performance, you probably should not be bothered by this. The camera system is also not quite the best one we have seen, and especially the ultra-wide camera and video quality take a hit.

Reviewing the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, the most premium Moto flagship smartphone in 2024 packing a 50MP Omnivision camera and respectable specs. I've been testing the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra as my full-time phone for a week so here's my thoughts on the gaming chops, battery life etc. Check out my reviews of other Moto rivals, including the OnePlus 12, Pixel 8 Pro and Nothing Phone 2.

Unboxing the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, Moto's latest flagship smartphone boasting a fast-charging battery, triple lens camera setup and Pantone design. Gaming on Genshin Impact etc seems smooth on the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, despite the lesser Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, vs rivals like Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra. You've got the usual stock Android setup here, with the Moto app adding some nifty bonus tools. The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra has a dedicated gaming mode and user-friendly camera experience, with Pantone colour approval. You've also got a 4500mAh battery with 125w charging (and 50w wireless charging). Stick around for my full review of the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra to see how the battery life and camera hold up against rival phones like the S24 Ultra and Pixel 8 Pro. I've got my SIM inside, testing it as my full time smartphone as usual - so far, so good! Although I don't think the optics are as good as the Pixel or Samsung's effort, but more on that soon....

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is a powerful smartphone and one that is incredibly easy to like. Be it wooden or eco-leather, the Edge 50 Ultra's exterior is a showstopper, and it may seal the deal for many. Then we have a superb 144Hz OLED, a powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, impressive speakers, amazing photo quality, long battery life, and 125W fast charging. Not everything is peachy, of course. The phone does throttle and heats up fast, and let's not forget the largely unimpressive video recording quality.

The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is definitely looking good, especially with those different back panel materials it comes in and the thin formfactor. The curved display is not for everybody, though, but it also wouldn't be an proper "Edge" phone if it didn't include that. We are happy to see the importance Motorola has placed onto the camera system, which sounds like a potentially very capable one, especially if we were to speculate based on the Edge 50 Pro's camera performance. You also get quite the capable chipset inside, which is doesn't match the competition from Samsung exactly, but should offer more power-efficiency instead. The one issue—and it isn't a small one—that we have with the Edge 50 Ultra is that it only comes with 3 years of Android updates. Now, granted, if you don't plan on owning the phone for any longer than that, then maybe you wouldn't mind this setback.

As always, it's a bit early to tell whether the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is a good buy, but we can say it's definitely a promising one. It has all the bells and whistles of a true flagship phone while starting at €999, which is considered affordable in today's flagship segment. With time, the price will trend down, and the handset will become an even more enticing option. In any case, despite the promising hardware, a full review will reveal whether the 4,500 mAh battery will be enough for dependable endurance and it's going to be interesting to see how the new camera system will fare against the competition. The Moto Edge 50 Ultra is expected to come to market by the end of May and a lot could change in that timeframe.

There’s a lot to like about the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, especially the soft design and various finishes. Looks aren’t everything though, and the phone needs to impress elsewhere to make it a better pick when the competition is so strong. None of the AI features really stood out for me during my initial time with the phone, with most of them simply rebranded existing skills, but this could change over time. There are still questions to be answered about the camera too – a weak point of many previous Motorola devices.

Even after a short taster, it’s clear Motorola has picked a niche for the Edge 50 Ultra. It’s got plenty of high-end hardware, but not to the extent that other Ultra-badged phones do. At €999, it’s closer competition to the Google Pixel 8 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S24+. Style-wise I think it comfortably competes, especially the Nordic Wood version, and it has them both beaten on charging speeds. Performance should be almost level, and the display is up to par too. Battery life is an unknown, and Motorola’s software additions aren’t quite as head-turning as Samsung’s Galaxy AI, though. Ultimately how well those rear cameras perform will dictate whether it can earn a place among flagship rivals.
