The Nokia N1 is an excellent Android tablet. The design, performance and battery life are enough to put the whole Android tablet category in a different light. If other manufacturers want to compete with Apple, they should look at the N1 as a benchmark for how to do it.

This is a shame, as the Nokia N1 is a stunning little Android tablet that absolutely deserves a place on UK shop shelves. While it's not as good value as the Nexus 9, which has since come down to just £200, the N1 is still an incredible tablet with exceptional build quality and battery life and a novel yet easy to use interface. It's a much better buy than the iPad Mini 3 and is my new favourite small tablet. Only its quasi-legal status keeps it from winning a Best Buy award, though with a tablet this good I can’t help but still recommend it.

We rejoiced when we learned that Nokia is coming back to consumer devices. It's the Rolling Stones of smartphone makers - it had a wild youth but as time went on it became recognized as the best. It took a short hiatus, but now it's back. We've seen some outlandish looking hardware from Nokia, it was part of its charm - the Finns were never afraid to try something new and we got a lot of great hardware thanks to that. The Nokia N1 is not that, it's playing it safe and quite derivative in design.

Apart from that there isn’t a whole lot to the software experience, with only a few additional settings available, including Compass and Gyro sensor calibration, and Intel Smart Video. As mentioned, this particular version doesn’t offer Google Play Services, but that will not be the case when the device makes its way to a wider release. It is also important to keep in mind that the Z Launcher is still in its beta iteration, with the upcoming full release likely taking care of any bugs and glitches you may notice now.

We think the N1, despite its unoriginal design touches, is a fantastic tablet. We look forward to testing its screen, performance, cameras, and more in more suitable conditions when it is launched in India. We don't know any dates but it is coming at some point - Nokia reps made a point of telling us that they are aware of the brand's power in India and have no intention of letting it slide into obscurity.

Modell: Schlank, schön und fähig: Das Nokia N1 ist ein solides Tablet für produktive Arbeit und Unterhaltung. Obwohl das Gesamtdesign durch das grundlegende, rechteckige Profil geprägt ist, hat Nokia definitiv Wert auf Details gelegt. Dank abgerundeter Kanten und eines soliden Chassis kann das Nokia N1 angenehm in der Hand gehalten werden. Der 7,9 Zoll große LCD-Bildschirm nutzt IPS-Technologie, liefert guten Kontrast und eine gute Farbsättigung und wird durch Corning Gorilla Glass 3 geschützt. Das Android 5.0 Lollipop Tablet verfügt über einen Intel Atom Z3580 Quad-Core-Prozessor mit einer Taktrate von 2,3 GHz, 2 GB RAM, eine PowerVR G6430 GPU und 32 GB internen Speicher.

In puncto Kameras liefert das Nokia N1 eine 8-MP-Autofokus-Kamera und einen 5-MP-Sensor. Beide schießen, wie von Nokia zu erwarten, Bilder in hoher Qualität. Die Audio-Qualität der eingebauten Stereo-Lautsprecher ist ebenso gut. Zu den weiteren Features zählen Bluetooth 4.0, Dual-Band-Wi-Fi und microUSB 2.0. Das Nokia N1 ist in zwei Farben verfügbar: Aluminium oder Lava-Grau. Der nicht entfernbare Lithium-Ionen-Akku hat eine Nennkapazität von 5300 mAh und das Gerät wiegt zirka 318 g. Usern, die erstklassige Qualität zu einem vernünftigen Preis suchen, wird sicherlich gefallen, was das Nokia N1 zu bieten hat.

Imagination PowerVR G6430: Multicore (4 Cluster) Grafikchip für ARM-Prozessoren. Wird unter anderem im iPhone 5S (Apple A7 SoC) eingesetzt.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

Intel Atom: Die Intel Atom Serie besteht aus 64-Bit Mikroprozessoren für günstige und stromsparende Notebooks, MIDs oder UMPC. Besonderheit der Architektur, ist das die Befehle nicht wie derzeit üblich (z. B. Intel Core Architekture oder AMD Turion) "out of Order"  sondern  "in  Order"  ausgeführt  werden. Dadurch verliert man zwar einiges an Performance, jedoch spart dies Transistoren und daher Kosten und dadurch auch etwas Strom.

Z3580: Quad-Core-SoC auf Basis der Atom-Architektur "Silvermont" für Tablets und Smartphones.
