The Dell Venue 8 7000 is the best Android tablet I've ever used. The premium construction and the outstanding display make this a joy to use. Based on preliminary testing, the Intel RealSense technology used in the Dell is not a major draw to the tablet. It may be the less-than-stellar 8MP camera holding it back from full potential. In its current form it is a more of a curiosity rather than a major feature.

The Dell Venue 8 is a tablet that I really wanted to like. From the moment I unboxed it, it had a level of craftsmanship that I have seldom seen in other Android tablets. The aluminum casing is rigid and sturdy, which is a breath of fresh air compared to the flex that many plastic tablets exhibit. It's extremely thin, and it manages to be lightweight without going overboard and feeling like an empty demo unit.

Instead of the Dell Venue 8 7000, this should have been called "Dell - the world's thinnest tablet" to tell us more about all of its iPad-beating features. No, it doesn't match Apple's A8 chip with its unconventional use of a smaller Intel processor. That does make it slower than today's best tablets. But it ultimately helps more than it hurts, thanks to its thinner profile. This model is thin and has style, more so than other Android tablet.

When it comes to performance, the Dell Venue 8 7000 didn’t let me down, but it did make me question Intel’s placement. On more than one occasion, screens stuttered to do things they shouldn’t, or graphic performance just dips for unknown reasons. A parallax wallpaper, placed by default, doesn't move as smooth as it could. It kind of jumps to position once you've stopped moving the tablet. That's just one example of the processor not reacting as quickly to software as it probably should.

Dell's latest Android tablet certainly has a lot of things going for it. The Venue 8 7000 features probably one of the best displays when it comes to sharpness and color on the market and it is incredibly thin. It also brings the Intel RealSense camera technology to the mobile world. This premium tablet though is held back by a number of smaller flaws though.

I'm very frustrated here, as the Dell Venue 8 7000 is one of those gadgets that doesn't deliver in person what it promises on paper. Yes, it's the most beautiful tablet available today. But the camera location is downright idiotic, the depth camera is a gimmick, Dell Cast hardly works, and the laggy performance doesn't show up in the specs or benchmarks.

So far, between the physical design, screen quality, web performance, and battery life, I'm really pleased with the Venue 8 7000. Unlike the Shield Tablet, it doesn't feel like a device that wants to do everything--be a gaming tablet, streaming box, digital notepad, etc. This is a beautiful device for content consumption, and as long as further testing shows that it doesn't noticeably suffer for running x86, it could be the best mobile device Dell has released in a long time.

Modell: Der Award für das weltweite dünnste Tablet hat mit Dells Venue 8 Tablet einen neuen Gewinner. Mit einer Bauhöhe von nur 0,6 cm, ist es bei weitem das dünnste verfügbare Tablet. Dieses moderne Wunderwerk verfügt über einen 8,4 Zoll großen Bildschirm mit OLED Technologie. Daher sind Grafiken reich an Tiefe, Lebendigkeit und Kontrast, denn die OLED-Technologie kann anders als LED-Bildschirme tiefes Schwarz darstellen.

Zudem hat der Bildschirm eine Auflösung von 2560 x 1600 Pixeln und damit eine Pixeldichte von 359 ppi. Die Dual-Linsen-Kamera verfügt über Intels RealSense-Technologie, die es den Nutzern ermöglicht, Bilder in vielen Layern aufzunehmen, die später durch das Anwenden von Filtern oder das Hinzufügen von Bokeh, das Anpassen des Fokus oder durch Punkt-Färbung editiert werden können. Die RealSense 3D-Kamera bietet auch 3D-Scanning, Gesichtserkennung und eine sehr empfindliche Kontrolle mit Gesten.

Weiters gibt es eine 8-MP-Frontkamera für normale Stillbilder. Der Prozessor in diesem Tablet ist ein Intel Atom Z3580 Quad-Core-Prozessor mit einer Taktrate von bis zu 2,3 GHz, der mit einer Power VR G6430 Grafikkarte, 2 GB RAM und 16 GB Speicher kombiniert ist. Dank Intels kleiner 22 nm Moorefield-Architektur kann die Abwärme besser gehandhabt werden. Insgesamt ist dies ein Tablet, das man unbedingt haben muss, wenn man die neue RealSense-Tiefen-Technologie liebt.

Imagination PowerVR G6430: Multicore (4 Cluster) Grafikchip für ARM-Prozessoren. Wird unter anderem im iPhone 5S (Apple A7 SoC) eingesetzt.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.

Intel Atom: Die Intel Atom Serie besteht aus 64-Bit Mikroprozessoren für günstige und stromsparende Notebooks, MIDs oder UMPC. Besonderheit der Architektur, ist das die Befehle nicht wie derzeit üblich (z. B. Intel Core Architekture oder AMD Turion) "out of Order"  sondern  "in  Order"  ausgeführt  werden. Dadurch verliert man zwar einiges an Performance, jedoch spart dies Transistoren und daher Kosten und dadurch auch etwas Strom.

Z3580: Quad-Core-SoC auf Basis der Atom-Architektur "Silvermont" für Tablets und Smartphones.
