Mit dem Area-51 m15x ist Alienware ein großer Wurf im kompakten Gaming Segment gelungen. Betrachtet man ausschließlich die gebotene Performance und sucht im 15.4 Zoll Multimedia Bereich nach vergleichbaren Notebooks, so stellt man schnell fest, dass das m15x aktuell eine absolute Sonderposition innehat. Größter Kritikpunkt beim Area-51 m15x ist das Gehäuse des Gerätes. Die verwendeten Kunststoffbauteile vermitteln weder in ihrer Haptik noch in ihrer gebotenen Stabilität einen hochwertigen Eindruck, ganz zu schweigen von den ständigen Knarrgeräuschen beim Hantieren mit dem Notebook. Auch wenn das m15x hinsichtlich Anschlüssen nur eine kleine Auswahl an Ports bietet, so findet man insgesamt doch alles was man als Gamer benötigt. Vor allem die Anschlusspositionierung konnte im Test überzeugen. Die Tastatur lieferte im Test eine souveräne Vorstellung ab und sollte sich auch im harten Gamingeinsatz gut schlagen. Eine wesentliche Stärke des Alienware Area-51 m15x ist mit Sicherheit das Display, welches sich durch seine hohe Auflösung, eine gute Displayhelligkeit bei guter Ausleuchtung als auch durch einen hervorragenden Kontrast auszeichnet.

Das Notebook hält was es verspricht. Und das Ganze zu einem stolzen Preis. Wer sich jedoch davon nicht abschrecken lässt wird begeistert sein und erhält ein hochwertiges Notebook, welches sich wirklich mal von der Masse abhebt – ohne dabei überladen oder zu verspielt zu wirken. Praktisch ist das Smartbay-Laufwerk, welches z.B. eine Nachrüstung eines Bluray-Laufwerks oder eines zusätzlichen Akkus möglich macht.

In conclusion this is the best laptop i have ever owned and i have no regrets although i wish my smart bay battery would have came the same time but its coming.I am not that much of a benchmarking person but i ran 3dmark06.I only got 5848,anyone care to explain why?

I had a blast using the m15x. This notebook is absolutely the best looking and performing notebook ever conceived by man. I had so much fun that I have never tested a notebook as thoroughly as I have the m15x. I kept trying to think of tests to run as an excuse to keep it longer. It makes me giddy thinking about the new features Alienware has in store for the m17x due out (hopefully) soon. If you're looking for a 15 inch notebook, that can handle any game that is thrown at it, the m15x is the correct choice.

Wow! This is truely an amazing laptop. The 8800gtx is simply amazing. They lighting is also stunning. I sat there playing with the lights for about an hour I am extremely glad i decided to purchase this computer. The process with Alienware went extremely smooth and there customer support was great. Another really cool thing they did was engrave whatever you wanted on the bottom. I just decided to get my name.

I have to be brutally honest - the Alienware Area-51 m15x is the best-rounded gaming machine I have tested. It really is. How Alienware managed to pack ultra high-performance components typically only found in the largest of desktop replacements into a 15.4-inch, 1.3-inch thin, 7-lb package and still manage good battery life I do not know. The m15x is both a fabulous gaming machine and a practical machine on the go. It can score almost 9,500 points in 3DMark06 yet get almost three hours of battery life with the standard battery. Throw a second battery in the Smart Bay and it gets nearly five. And let us not forget about the looks - they do not appeal to everyone of course, but anyone can admit the m15x is like nothing else. Alienware put a lot of time and effort into this design and it shows.

Overall, the Alienware Area-51 m15x delivers the power you need to play the most demanding games, and it’s much more compact than competing rigs. We wish the speakers were a bit louder and that the system offered better wireless range, but no other 15.4-inch system can hold a candle to this rig.

NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX: Die Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTX basiert auf den Desktop G92 Chip und bietet dank 256 Bit Speicherbus und deutlich mehr Shadern eine spürbar bessere Leistung als der GeForce 8700M GT und auch der 8800M GTS.

Vergleichbar mit aktuellen high end Desktop Grafikkarten vom Schlage einer 7900 und X1800/X1900. Die Karten besitzen einen ähnlichen Kern, sind jedoch meist geringer getaktet und deshalb etwas langsamer. Neueste Spiele wie F.E.A.R., Quake4, Company of Heroes etc. sollten mit allen Details flüssig laufen. Die Mobility 9800, X800 und 6800 Karten sind leistungsmäßig schon der Übergang zur Leistungsklasse 2.

Intel Core 2 Extreme: Die höchstgetaktete CPU von Intels Core 2 Duo Serie wird als Core 2 Extreme (mit saftigem Aufpreis) verkauft. Technisch basiert die Serie auf den Merom Core.

Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können.
