Abgesehen von Intels HD-3000-Grafik liefern alle Komponenten der neuen MacBooks erheblich mehr Leistung als bei den Vorgängern. Und bis auf das 250 Euro teurere 17-Zoll-Modell kosten alle MacBooks so viel wie die Vorgänger. Verschlechtert haben sich allerdings Akkulaufzeit und besonders auch die Arbeitsgeräusche.

Die neue Thunderbolt-Schnittstelle verspricht eine schnelle Anbindung an externe Hardware, mangels entsprechender Peripherie kann man dies aber noch nicht nutzen. Die Systemhänger unter Volllast sind Anlass zur Sorge, auch wenn die genaue Ursache dafür noch unbekannt ist.

I admit the MacBook Pro is not perfect – actually, it is bloody expensive at a mere quid short of £2,100. Add to that the cost of any of the aforementioned adapters, which might involve a new found love of the ExpressCard/34 slot, if you get really desperate. Yup, it is, quite simply, out of my price range. The Top Gear team spend less than that on second-hand Bentleys. Yet it does deliver an exceptional user experience. So ask your employer to buy you one, or get the next-best alternative: the 15in model. Either way, no-one will convince me that it’s money badly spent.

There's no Blu-ray writer built-in, even as an optional extra, which may disappoint if you want to author Blu-ray movies on the go or want to backup large quantities of data onto a single disc. There aren't any complaints about the large 750GB hard disk though. This can be substituted by Apple with a SSD up to 512GB in capacity, although this will be costly.

AMD Radeon HD 6750M: Dem Codenamen zu urteilen eine 6650M mit GDDR5 Speicher und dadurch ebenfalls mit von UVD3 und Eyefinity+.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

Die DTR-Laptops sind schwerer zu tragen, brauchen mehr Strom, dafür sind Texte leicht lesbar und hohe Auflösungen kein Problem. Die Verbalbeurteilungen klingen aber oft besser als sie wirklich sind, denn richtig gelästert wird über Notebooks eher selten. Obwohl dieser Bereich offiziell meist einem "Befriedigend" entspricht, passt oft eher "mäßiger Durchschnitt".
