Mit dem FX600 möchte MSI Lifestyle mit Business vereinen, was in der Praxis auch ganz gut gelingt. Je nach Betriebsmodus liefert der Laptop entweder die volle Leistung, dann aber eine kurze Akkulaufzeit, oder eben weniger Kraft mit mehr Mobilität. Die 70 Minuten Laufzeit unter Vollast sind aber etwas dürftig. Im Job gefällt die große Tastatur mit Nummernpad, in der Freizeit wiederum das Breitbild-Display und der gute Lautsprecher-Sound.

Der mobile Intel Core i5 450M @ 2,40GHz Prozessor, die stromsparende Intel HD Grafikkarte, die gesonderte NVIDIA-Grafik-GPU sowie die 500-GB-Festplatte machen den MSI FX600 zu einem vielseitig einsetzbaren Laptop. Die Tastatur mit abgesetztem Zehnerblock ist für Laptop-Verhältnisse recht gut, das Touchpad beherrscht alle zeitgemäßen Funktionen, erfordert aber bei der Gestensteuerung etwas zu viel Druck, das Sound-System mit insgesamt vier Lautsprechern klingt gut.

Mit dem FX600 hat MSI ein solides Notebook auf die Beine gestellt, welches sich kaum Schwächen erlaubt, aber auch keine umwerfenden Argumente für einen Kauf bietet. Zwar macht der MSI-eigene Turbo-Modus dem Intel Core i5-450M Beine und bietet eine deutliche Steigerung bei der Anwendungsleistung. Doch für derzeit 760 Euro hätte eine stärkere Grafikkarte als die Nvidia Geforce GT 325M verbaut werden können.

MSIs doppelte Kategorisierung trifft nicht wirklich zu, und das FX600-i5447W7P ist eindeutig mehr ein Lifestyle-Notebook. Dafür sprechen das (glänzende) Innendesign und die nur durchschnittliche Verarbeitung. Auch das Fehlen von Bluetooth verwundert. Die Laufzeiten von maximal 3:41 im Leerlauf und 2:17 bei der DVD-Wiedergabe gehen in Ordnung, ein größerer Akku würde die Mobilität natürlich erhöhen.

MSI stellt mit dem FX600-i5447W7P einen alltagstauglichen 15.6-Zoller auf die Beine. Er eignet sich nur mit Einbußen (Details, Auflösungen) für aktuelle Games, punktet aber mit einem sehr guten Klang (vier Lautsprecher), einer geringen Wärmeabgabe und matten, unempfindlichen Oberflächen. Auf Grund der langsamen 500 GB Festplatte liegt die Anwendungsperformance unter der zu erwartenden Core i5-Systemleistung und auf Core i3-Niveau.

The FX600 is a well-balanced notebook at a reasonable price. It will work well for general productivity and/or school work at home, in the office, or on the go, but don't expect to spend extended amounts of time away from a plug. It's also well suited for heavier computing tasks with its powerful Core i5 processor and respectable GT325M. Things like 3D modeling, photo editing, and video editing shouldn't be a problem, assuming you can look past the mediocre display. As powerful as it is, it's not quite enough to make a solid gaming machine, but it is capable of playing modern games on reduced settings.

The screen is 15.6in, glossy and has a native resolution of 1366x768. As is the case with many 15.6in laptops we've seen, the MSI FX600 has very narrow vertical angles that can be a nuisance when viewing photos and videos. Reflections in the screen will also be a annoying. Overall though, the MSI FX600 is a great little unit. We love its Touchpad, it's well built and relatively light at just under 2.5kg and you can use it on your lap without it feeling awkward or getting too hot as long as you are using the Intel graphics. We think it's a good unit to go for if you want a comfortable laptop that's got a good amount of CPU and graphics grunt under the hood. However, we do wish that there was a switch so that we could more easily dictate graphics card usage.

In Sachen Rechenkraft und Grafikleistung bietet der FX600 von MSI eine brauchbare Ausstattung. Er eignet sich jedoch mehr als stationärer, denn als mobiler Laptop, da die Akkulaufzeit zu gering ausfällt. Ebenfalls verbesserungswürdig präsentiert sich ein Teil der Bedienung: Denn während die Tastatur zum Tippen einlädt ist es keine Freude den Cursor zu bewegen und Objekte anzuklicken.

MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI) wurde 1986 in Taiwan gegründet. MSI ist besonders als Hersteller von Hauptplatinen und Grafikkarten für PCs bekannt, bietet darüber hinaus Computerzubehör, Komplettsysteme und Notebooks an. Das Unternehmen beschäftigt weltweit etwa 16.900 Mitarbeiter und besitzt Werke in China und Taiwan. Der Markenname Microstar gehört in Deutschland allerdings der Firma Medion. Der Umsatz belief sich im Jahr 2005 auf ca. 1,52 Mrd. €. Als Notebook-Hersteller ist MSI erst seit 2005 einem breiteren Publikum bekannt und vermarktet seine Mobilcomputer weltweit, allerdings mit eher bescheidenen Marktanteilen.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 325M: Die GeForce GT 325M ist eine geringer getaktete GT 230M Mittelklasse Grafikkarte, welche jedoch etwas sparsamer sein dürfte.

Intel Core i5:

450M: Baugleich zum Core i5-520M jedoch ohne AES Funktionen und daher ein schneller Mittelklasse Doppelkernprozessor.

460M: Schneller Mittelklasse Doppelkernprozessor mit HyperThreading (4 Threads gleichzeitig abarbeitbar) aber ohne AES Funktionen.

Intel Core i3:

330M: Der Core i3-330M ist ein Mittelklasse Dual-Core Prozessor ohne Turbo Boost Modus. Daher läuft die CPU mit max. 2.13 GHz. Durch Hyperthreading werden bis zu 4 Threads gleichzeitig bearbeitet. Im Package ist auch noch eine integrierte Grafikkarte (GMA HD mit 500-667 MHz) und ein Speichercontroller (beide noch 45nm Fertigung). Dadurch ist der gesamte TDP von 35 Watt nicht sehr hoch.

15.6: 15 Zoll Display-Varianten sind der Standard und werden für fast die Hälfte aller Notebooks verwendet. Notebook-Displays im 15 Zoll-Format sind der Standard schlechthin. 15.4 Zoll ist meist die genaue Größeneinheit für 16:10 Notebooks, während 15.6 Zoll ein Indiz für das Format 16:9 sind. Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können.

75.5%: Weltbewegend ist diese Bewertung nicht. Obwohl es bei den meisten Websites einem "Befriedigend" entspricht, muss man bedenken, dass es kaum Notebooks gibt, die unter 60% erhalten. Verbalbewertungen in diesem Bereich klingen oft nicht schlecht, sind aber oft verklausulierte Euphemismen.
