If you were considering the E1 for a budget buy, ask yourself: are these compromises that you can live with? Maybe you'll get used to the touchpad's quirks after a few weeks, and you don't care what Frankie Muniz's ugly face looks like on Netflix, as long as you can get online, write that report, and play some Hotline Miami. Then the Acer Aspire E1 might be for you. But with better-priced rivals out there, the competition is steep. Frankly, you might be better off finding a budget laptop on which it's easier to scroll up and down.

The Acer Aspire E1-472G is a laptop I'm sure I've seen before somewhere. The déjà vu occurred the moment I first snapped open its plastic lid. Acer's variation on the budget E1-472G Aspire laptop has good guts but an underwhelming exterior and design, and also lacks a touch screen. Nvidia graphics add a boost.

The Acer Aspire E1 may have some of the latest hardware from Intel and Nvidia, but it remains a laptop that’s rooted in the past. A lackluster display, poor battery life and a thick, bulky chassis make the E1 feel as if it was designed a few years ago. In today’s era of sleek Ultrabooks, it feels positively archaic.

At this price, the lack of a touch screen seems like an omission, and it combines with the spotty gesture support of the touchpad to make this a poor laptop for Windows 8.1, especially for anyone new to the operating system. The Editors' Choice Dell Inspiron 14R-5437$649.99 at Dell offers better performance, longer battery life, and a fuller feature set, for a similar price, remaining our top pick in the category. That said, if you are comfortable with the small sacrifices necessary for a budget-friendly system, the Aspire E1-472G-6844 does offer great graphics prowess in the same general price range, so it may be worth considering.

NVIDIA GeForce 820M: 28nm Fermi Chip der unteren Mittelklasse welcher mit der 620M bzw 710M baugleich ist.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
