Die Stärken des getesteten Dell Inspiron 14z liegen eindeutig in der Performance und dem Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Die SSD und der Prozessor sorgen durchweg für performantes, angenehmes Arbeiten ohne lange Wartepausen. Das Display ist leider, wie häufig bei Ultrabooks, eher ein Schwachpunkt.

Notebook, Subnotebook, Ultrabook - wer das Dell Inspiron 14z nicht in eine Schublade stecken möchte und mit dem Gewicht von 2,1 Kilogramm kein Problem hat, erhält mit der von netzwelt getesteten Version einen flotten Alltagsbegleiter, der sogar für das ein oder andere Spiel genügend Leistung aufbringen kann. Schade ist, dass auch das Inspiron 14z mit einem extrem spiegelnden Display ausgeliefert wird, das die prinzipiell guten Grafikleistungen direkt wieder untergräbt.

The Dell Inspiron 14z is not a bad budget laptop, though it doesn’t gel with what we’ve come to expect from the Intel Ultrabook label. It’s not particularly light, its battery life and screen are only average, and its design tries for premium but falls short. However, as an affordable general-purpose work-horse it’s still a nice machine with decent usability, connectivity and performance, and light gamers on a strict budget may want to check out the version with dedicated graphics.

At this early stage, Intel's hardware partners are still trying to figure out how best to utilize the Ultrabook form factor and how far they can push the envelope. As such, we never know quite what to expect each time a new model lands on our doorstep. In this case, Dell surprised us with above average gaming performance and a slot-load optical drive, two traits we haven't seen much of in the Ultrabook category.

Though the Dell Inspiron 14z-5423 has a larger screen than our current EC, the HP Folio 13-1020us (which has a 13.3-inch screen) and somewhat better performance on the multimedia and 3D tests, the fact that the HP 13-1020us is lighter, cheaper, and has almost three hours better battery life lets the latter hold on to its title. Both systems have 1,366 by 768 resolution screens, so all you get is slightly larger letters and images.

Auf den ersten Blick wirkt das Dell Inspiron 14z wie ein herkömmlicher 14-Zoll Laptop. Dennoch handelt es sich tatsächlich um ein Ultrabook und zwar um das erste. Ultrabooks sind mehr Kunstwerk als Laptop. Auf der Suche nach dieser neuen Laptopart, fühlt man sich wie in einer Laptop-Schönheitsschau. Das Inspiron 14z hingegen ist eher ein herkömmlicher Laptop, der in von Intel vorgestellte Ultrabook-Kategorie fällt. Es bietet sogar ein eingebautes optisches Laufwerk und eine Fülle von Schnittstellen, die man selten in Ultrabooks antrifft.

Anders als seine XPS Brüder wird das Inspiron 14z nicht perfektioniert und hat auch nicht das geschwungene Gehäusedesign. Es ist nicht in einem Aluminiumkörper oder in Cornings Gorilla Glas eingehüllt. Trotzdem ist es schlanker und leichter als herkömmliche 14-Zoll Laptops und damit ideal für Reisende und das Gehäuse wirkt für ein Ultrabook solide genug. Als eines der billigsten Ultrabooks erinnert uns das Inspiron 14z daran, dass sich nicht alle nach etwas Schlankem und Ausgefallenem umsehen. Einige brauchen nur gute Laptops, die leicht und portabel sind. Das einzige Problem ist das Aussehen: Es sieht wenig professionell und billig aus. Wir haben bereits viel billigere Laptops gesehen, die wie teure Ultrabooks aussehen.

AMD Radeon HD 7570M: Selber Chip der Radeon HD 6750M bzw 6650M jedoch nur mit 64 Bit Speicherbandbreite. Je nach Version mit verschiedenen Taktraten und Speicherausstattung. Die GDDR5 Version ist langsamer getaktet aber insgesamt etwas schneller als die DDR3 Version mit höheren Chiptaktraten.

Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.
