EN→DEThe OnePlus 15R delivers on the promise it makes: flagship-level performance without the flagship price. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 handles everything you throw at it without hesitation, the 7400mAh battery gets you through two days easily, and the 165Hz display works exactly when it needs to (in games that actually support it). Four IP ratings mean you can use the phone without constantly worrying about water or dust. The design is clean and understated, which works in its favour rather than trying too hard to stand out. So if you’re someone for whom performance and battery life is above everything else, the 15R makes a convincing case for itself at Rs 49,999. The compromises are there, though. The camera is the most obvious one: a missing telephoto, an aging ultrawide, and a main sensor that struggles once lighting gets tricky.

EN→DESo the real question is: who is this phone actually for? And I think the OnePlus 15R is for someone who wants an exceptional overall smartphone experience: great performance, excellent software, a very good display, solid IP rating, fast ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, and insane battery life. But it’s not for someone who clicks a lot of photos or videos. If you only take casual photos once in a while and camera performance is not your top priority, then the OnePlus 15R is actually a fantastic phone. And honestly, if that’s the use case, I don’t see many reasons to spend extra money on the OnePlus 15, because even its cameras aren’t that great. So, yeah, you can save a significant amount of money and still get almost the same overall experience with the 15R.

EN→DEWhile there are clear chinks in the OnePlus 15R’s armour, collectively they’re small. So long as its lack of a telephoto camera, LTPS display tech, USB 2.0 speeds and middling haptics aren’t dealbreakers, the OnePlus 15R is otherwise a complete high-end package that gets you most of the way to the full-fat OnePlus 15 experience. Even if I don’t agree with them all, I think OnePlus made the right compromises, as what’s left still wholly impresses, particularly the combination of sustained performance and the 165Hz display party trick for gamers. The phone’s outstanding battery longevity and clean user experience are to be commended too. For your money, you could opt for the Galaxy S25 FE (which I’ve already compared to the 15R), or the Google Pixel 10 (which is starting to see price reductions), both of which pack superior photography skills but otherwise weaker hardware. There’s also the more affordable (but marginally more compromised) Poco F8 Pro, which I also recently reviewed.

EN→DEWe are going to keep it simple – unless you totally need a telephoto camera, the OnePlus 15R is a no-brainer at its price. You get a great display, flagship performance, and amazing battery life, as well as a decent pair of cameras, all wrapped in a modern interface and sleek frame for under Rs 50,000. At a time when premium flagship prices are going through the roof, the OnePlus 15R is the flagship killer the market needs, and brings back the OG spirit which ensured that the competition NeverSettled. Although it is more expensive than the OnePlus 13R, the OnePlus 15R still offers very good value for money for those seeking close to flagship performance at a less-than-premium price, especially as flagship prices rise.

EN→DEOnePlus’ R-series of models is known to offer the experience of its flagships, like the recently unveiled OnePlus 15, at a budget-friendly price. In this regard, the OnePlus 15R, which was launched today (December 17), along with the OnePlus Pad Go 2, is no different. The OnePlus 15R offers a high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, a massive 7,400 mAh battery, and a refined camera setup. Priced at Rs 49,999 (12GB+512GB), the 15R aims to strike a balance between flagship performance and affordability, with the Shenzhen-based smartphone brand looking to cement its position in the mid-range Android segment even as the Indian consumer market gradually shifts from value to premium devices.

EN→DEAfter teasing the handset at the OnePlus 15 launch event in November, the OnePlus 15R has now officially debuted in India. The smartphone starts at Rs 47,999, marking a noticeable price hike over its predecessor, the OnePlus 13R. While OnePlus has introduced several meaningful upgrades to help justify the higher asking price, it has also made a few compromises that may give some buyers pause. After spending time with the device, here’s a closer look at what works in the OnePlus 15R’s favour, and where it falls short.

EN→DEThe OnePlus 15R represents a compelling value proposition in the increasingly competitive mid-range flagship space. While OnePlus made some unfortunate cuts—most notably the removal of the telephoto lens and the slower charging speeds in the US—the phone excels where it matters most for its target audience. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 proves to be a smart choice, delivering excellent thermal management and efficiency without sacrificing meaningful real-world performance. Paired with that massive 7,400mAh battery, you’re looking at a phone that can genuinely last well beyond a full day of heavy use, which is something few competitors at any price can claim. The design and build quality punch well above the phone’s weight class, and the 6.83-inch display with 165Hz refresh rate offers a premium viewing experience.

EN→DEThe OnePlus 15R delivers on its promise of being a performance-first smartphone. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 ensures smooth performance, gaming is largely lag-free, and thermal control keeps heat in check. The display impresses, and battery life is among the best in its segment. That said, compromises remain. Camera performance is inconsistent, fine detail is lacking, and the absence of a telephoto lens is a noticeable drawback. Some gaming frame-rate claims also fall short in real-world use.

EN→DEIf you have come this far, you now have an idea that the OnePlus 15R is a very solid and well-rounded smartphone. If you are in the market for a mid-range smartphone that delivers a near-flagship experience without pushing into flagship pricing, 15R definitely makes a strong case for itself. It borrows heavily from OnePlus’ premium design language, feels premium in hand, and stands out with its excellent durability and power. The display is large, bright, and smooth, performance is consistently strong across daily use and gaming, and battery life is one of the phone’s biggest strengths. OxygenOS 16 runs smoothly, the interface stays clean and comes with longer support that includes 4 years of Android updates and 6 years of security updates. That said, there are a few things to consider.

EN→DEThe OnePlus 15R smartphone is a great mid-tier device if you don’t think you will ever use a telephoto lens—and you use yours more than you think. The battery is outstanding, and gaming performance is great. I just can’t stomach the lens loss.

EN→DEOnePlus, being the company it is, has some interesting pricing coming out of the gate. This phone checks in at $699.99 which puts it $100 short of iPhone 17 territory. The 512 GB variant will check in at $799.99. You can buy it on OnePlus's website with preordered opening today. You can also pick up the phone from Amazon and Best Buy early next year. If you order the 512 GB variant from OnePlus.com, you can get a set of OnePlus Buds 4 and a phone case for free. Overall, this is a phone that exists in a weird space. Most of its specifications are quite good, but the cameras are quite...not. Considering how important cameras are to people, that's not a great place to cut corners, but OnePlus did. That's a shame, because aside from the cameras, this is a really good phone.

EN→DEGiven how much I loved the OnePlus 15 – it’s still the high-end Android handset I’d suggest for most phone shoppers right now – I wasn’t surprised that I also gelled with the 15R. You’re getting a very similar experience, with OnePlus hardly diluting the formula down at all to reach a more appealing price. Rivals struggle to match it in most areas. You’re getting a bigger screen and higher water resistance ratings than either the Galaxy S25 or Pixel 10, the customisable Plus Key is a convenience you won’t find on a Poco, and the subtle styling is far easier on the eye than Nothing’s divisive Phone 3. True, I’d look elsewhere if photography was a priority – the basic ultrawide and lack of telephoto are real downers – but for gaming on the go and an impressively long lifespan per charge, the 15R is a safe bet.

EN→DEThe OnePlus 15R is priced in India at Rs 47,999 for the base 256GB storage variant, whereas the 512GB variant retails at Rs 52,999. That’s a hike of up to Rs 5,000 over the OnePlus 13R, which, on paper, may look better equipped thanks to its telephoto camera and LTPO display. That said, OnePlus justifies the price hike with meaningful upgrades where it counts. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset delivers a clear leap in performance, handling everything you throw at it without fuss or excessive heat, barring extended gaming sessions at the full 165fps. The massive 7,400mAh battery further strengthens the package, ensuring the phone sails through a full day of heavy use and comfortably outlasts most rivals in its price bracket. Rounding it off is a crisp, vibrant display that looks excellent both indoors and outdoors, making it well-suited for all kinds of content consumption, while OxygenOS 16 ties it all together with a smooth, well-optimised experience and long-term software support that few competitors can match.

EN→DEThe OnePlus 15R's features make it an excellent starter gaming phone. I often thought about the RedMagic 11 Pro while reviewing the 15R. RedMagic's $749 gaming phone has impressive specs that easily run any game you throw at it, and its 7,500-mAh silicon-carbon battery. But RedMagic seems to hit its reasonable price through a frustrating software experience that even includes advertisements when you open its web browser. The battery menu on the OnePlus 15R gives several options for using more power or extending battery life, but all are quite long. OnePlus chose not to skimp on the 15R's display or the battery, and would rather make its cuts by going with a slightly less powerful processor, skipping wireless charging and omitting the telephoto camera.

EN→DEThere are better options outside of OnePlus’s portfolio, too. The Samsung Galaxy S25 FE ($534.99 at Samsung) wasn’t our favorite phone of 2025, but it’s a much better product for the mid-tier flagship space that the OnePlus 15R is trying to compete in. Samsung’s phone has much more cohesive software, seven years of Android updates, and good battery life/charging. The $650 price tag is already lower than the 15R, and it’s not uncommon to find it on sale for dramatically less. It feels weird to be so down on the OnePlus 15R when its much more successful predecessor launched in the US less than 12 months ago and in the same calendar year, but that’s where we’re at. I love seeing OnePlus push the battery envelope as it has with the 15R, but that alone isn’t enough to justify the rest of the phone’s shortcomings — especially when it’s as expensive as it is.

EN→DEBetween the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset and the enormous 7,400mAh battery, nobody can accuse the OnePlus 15R of slacking in the hardware department. Performance is excellent, there’s gaming power to spare and the battery life is looking to be some of the best I’ve ever recorded. Which makes the lack of a telephoto camera all the more frustrating. If OnePlus could have nailed the camera offering, too, this could have been the best mid-range phone around. As it stands, the OnePlus 15R is a great pick for those who prioritise performance and stamina over photography, but it’s not quite strong enough to unseat the best picks in its price range.

EN→DEA price hike is often all it takes to sour what is otherwise an easy-to-recommend phone. And the OnePlus 15R shuffles right up to the line with a $100 price increase, rebates and pre-order offers aside. The refocus of the OnePlus 15R from a generalist flagship to a gaming-focused one has made the phone a more niche device as a result. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though, and with its big chip upgrade and more responsive display, the OnePlus 15R certainly fits in with the gaming phone crowd while also standing out from phones in the same general price bracket. While other brands may tout their phones' performance, I can't imagine Apple, Google or Samsung launching a gaming-specific handset in the current tech climate. I know I'd never buy a OnePlus 15R for myself. I'd either save up for the OnePlus 15 or turn to a cheaper Pixel 9a.

EN→DEIn short, the OnePlus 15R is the phone for people who don't care about photos and videos. That's the same conclusion I came to with the OP15. If you're a OnePlus fan, the 15R excels in all the areas you would expect the company's devices to make a good showing: performance, battery life and display responsiveness. Given I wasn't too impressed with the OP15's camera, I would actually recommend the 15R over that model. For $200 off the starting price of the OP15, you're getting a device that has almost all of the same strengths of its more expensive sibling. Compared to other phones in its price range, such as the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S25 FE, the 15R is not as well-rounded, and can't compete with those devices in camera quality, but you're getting much better performance, battery life and a display they can't match.

EN→DEI don't get what OnePlus wants to achieve with the 15R; earlier devices in the R series delivered a good value and exceled as all-rounders, but you just don't get that here. Yes, you get a massive battery and great performance, but that's the case with every phone. OnePlus deciding to not include a dedicated telephoto camera on the 15R basically kills the device, even if it has a decent 50MP main lens. To make things worse, the OnePlus 15R costs $699, a $100 increase over the 13R.

EN→DEThe OnePlus 15R is an excellent phone in some respects and merely adequate in others. The battery life is exceptional — truly best-in-class. Software is clean and functional, performance handles everything current apps and games demand, and the display is bright and smooth. But the camera system is only fine, not great, and the lack of wireless charging is frustrating at this price. If those things don't matter all that much to you and you have $700 to spend on a phone, then the OnePlus 15R is definitely worth considering.

EN→DEAt ₹44,999, the OnePlus 15R delivers flagship-level performance, a smooth display, and excellent battery life, making it a great choice for gamers and OnePlus fans who value clean software. However, its camera performance is decent but lacks the quality of rivals like the OPPO Find X9 or Vivo X300. Overall, the OnePlus 15R is a strong budget flagship for performance enthusiasts, proving that OnePlus can offer excitement without the high price tag.

EN→DEThe OnePlus 15R attempts to strike a compelling balance between near-flagship-grade performance without stretching into the territory of pricing, and it manages to do so to a certain extent. Even though it doesn't carry all the bells and whistles of its premium sibling, the handset's biggest strengths lie in performance, excellent battery life, and reliable software support, all of which make it a dependable daily driver for power users. On the flip side, camera compromises are evident, especially with the omission of a telephoto sensor, and the haptics feel like a step back compared to previous OnePlus models.

EN→DEThe OnePlus 15R is a pretty good premium smartphone for the most part. It is well-built with all the IP ratings you can think of, the display is of good quality, the performance from the new chip is excellent, the speakers sound great, and the battery life is tremendous. Where the phone disappoints is in the camera. OnePlus dropped the telephoto camera after just one year. Meanwhile, the 8MP ultra-wide that should have been upgraded three years ago is still kicking around. And the selfie camera is losing to the one on the cheaper Nord 5. The main camera is good, but not good enough to make up for everything else happening here. The reason for this seems simple. With the OnePlus 13 generation, the 13R was different from the 13 in enough ways that even with a telephoto, the latter came across as a notably superior device.

EN→DEI have mixed feelings about the OnePlus 15R, just like I did with the OnePlus 15. At $699 (and despite costing $100 more than the previous gen) it still offers great value, but OnePlus’ stubborn focus on performance results in some vexing compromises. While the OnePlus 15R boasts quality hardware, a lovely 165Hz display, solid performance, outstanding battery life, fast charging speeds, robust water/dust resistance, and excellent software, the downsides are difficult to ignore. First, the lack of telephoto shooter and the middling ultrawide significantly hamper camera versatility and imaging performance. Second, the iPhone-influenced design, LTPS screen, missing alert slider, and lack of wireless charging (which is available on cheaper handsets like Google's $499 Pixel 9a) all feel like steps in the wrong direction for a budget flagship.

EN→DEThe OnePlus 15R proves that a phone doesn’t need to be the absolute flagship to feel flagship-grade in everyday use. It brings together cutting-edge performance, outstanding battery life, a stunning high-refresh-rate display, and OnePlus’ smartest software yet, making it the most complete and powerful R-series smartphone OnePlus has ever launched. From the moment you use it, the OnePlus 15R feels premium. The 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with up to 165 Hz refresh rate is smooth, bright, and immersive, while the metal frame and IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K durability ratings give the phone a level of toughness. Despite housing a massive 7,400 mAh Silicon Nanostack battery, the device remains well-balanced and comfortable in hand. Performance is where the OnePlus 15R truly shines.
