Es ist schwer vorstellbar, dass das TriFold ein Gerät ist, das eine Nutzung von mehreren Jahren durchhält. Wer das selbst herausfinden möchte, wird sich schwertun: Das Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold ist derzeit nämlich ausverkauft. Der Kostenpunkt liegt bei 2.899 Euro. Ob es das Geld wert ist, darf stark bezweifelt werden. Für diese Summe könnte man sich ein Smartphone-Spitzenmodell und ein Highend-Tablet kaufen und man würde noch günstiger davonkommen. Dennoch hat mich das TriFold überrascht. Es ist eines der wenigen Falt-Handys, das den Formfaktor eines gewöhnlichen Smartphones mit der Größe eines 10-Zoll-Tablets kombiniert und gleichzeitig eine Multitasking-Benutzeroberfläche bietet.

In Korea sollen die ersten Exemplare des TriFold rasch ausverkauft gewesen sein. Es ist in der ersten Version vor allem eine Demonstration der technischen Fähigkeiten von Samsung und seiner Ingenieurskunst, in Deutschland allerdings die bisherigen Falthandys noch keine Bestseller. Doch allein die Existenz des TriFold beeindruckt und beweist: In der Größe können Faltdisplays herkömmliche Tablets wirklich ersetzen. Letztere sind allerdings deutlich billiger und robuster und liegen derzeit vor allem auf dem Wohnzimmertisch – wo es für sie auch ungefaltet genug Platz gibt. Das TriFold-Konzept kann also nur erfolgreich sein, wenn es noch dünner und leichter wird. Die flache Bauweise ist zunächst nur eine hinreichende Bedingung. Ob sie auch oft genug eine notwendige sein wird, wird die Zukunft zeigen.

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, announced on December 2, 2025 and set to release on December 12, brings a fresh take on foldable phones with its tri-fold design. When unfolded, the device opens into a large 10.0-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display with a 1584 × 2160 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and up to 1600 nits peak brightness. Fold it up, and you get a 6.5-inch outer AMOLED 2X panel with 1080 × 2520 resolution and 2600-nit peak brightness.

Qualcomm Adreno 830: Integrierte Grafikeinheit im Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC für Smartphones mit drei Slices mit je 1,1 GHz. Integriert 12 MB gemeinsamen Cache für die drei Slices. Laut Qualcomm um 40% schneller als die Vorgängergeneration (Adreno 750). 

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
