EN→DEForget what you've heard about the Honor Magic V5. It may or may not be the world's thinnest foldable, but with its handsome pair of displays, a large battery and software features you won't find elsewhere, it's certainly well-equipped. The lower price compared to similar foldable phones makes it an attractive pick, but the lack of availability in some countries is the biggest problem any potential owner will have to overcome. The Magic V5 also produced some odd-looking photos in my testing.

EN→DEThe Honor Magic V5 is a truly impressive folding phone, and the clearest rival to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. It's got two beautiful displays that feel almost like an extension of each other, a stunning design with the thinnest frame of any booklet foldable, and a larger battery than the iPad mini. There's so much great stuff going on here that any negatives fall apart next to the class-leading specs and gorgeous aesthetics. And that's not even mentioning the excellent multitasking or solid rear cameras. Honor really pulled the rabbit out of the hat with this one.

EN→DEAlthough the HONOR Magic V5 is not officially launched in the U.S. it can still be bought on Amazon, and as of writing it is currently on sale for $1,799 which is 18% off the list price of $2,199. As a quick reminder, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is currently £1,899 (or $1,799.99 in the U.S.) for the 12GB / 512 GB equivalent, so that's 4 GB less memory, and even without the coupon savings, the Magic V5 is still £200 cheaper (£500 as of writing) and you're not getting any freebies with the Samsung option.

EN→DEThe HONOR Magic V5 feels like the first foldable that doesn’t make excuses. It’s thin, light, durable, powerful, and feature-rich. It’s not a futuristic experiment, it’s a proper flagship that just happens to fold. With its ultra-premium design, class-leading display, flagship performance, and competitive cameras, HONOR has managed to blur the line between foldables and slab phones. This is no longer a “niche device,” it’s a genuine daily driver contender. The HONOR Magic V5 is priced at PHP 89,999 and if you’re wondering if it’s worth it? I can really say that it's actually worth every penny to have a foldable phone like the V5.And that wraps up our in-depth review of the HONOR Magic V5. EN→DEThe Magic V5 has seen some changes and improvements from its Magic V3 predecessor. The Honor Magic V5 is lighter, slimmer, better cameras, a bigger battery and more. It can produce some decent images, as seen in good lighting, but some inconsistent results in low light. There are plenty of phones out there, at a better price, with better image quality and specs. While photography isn’t necessarily the primary focus for folding phones, the convenience of having a larger screen takes greater priority and I can definitely see the appeal. If you are after a folding phone specifically, can compromise on camera quality and have a higher budget, this is a great option.

EN→DEThe Honor Magic V5 is undoubtedly an impressive smartphone that improves on its predecessor in almost every respect. The ultra-slim design has become even thinner, the battery life has more than doubled, dust and water protection has been significantly improved, and the camera has gained more megapixels in both the ultra-wide-angle and telephoto lenses. The battery capacity of 5,820 mAh, with over 11 hours of endurance in our benchmark test, stands out as the most significant improvement. Performance has also been significantly upgraded, although aggressive thermal throttling requires you to activate performance mode to experience the phone’s full potential. Honor has also upgraded its software support to a full seven years of Android and security updates, putting them on par with competitors Samsung and Google.

EN→DENow for the big question: whether you should buy the HONOR Magic V5? To be honest, before writing this review, I was pretty underwhelmed by this phone. Especially with all of the hype HONOR has had around the device since announcing it in China a few months ago. However, the more I thought about it from an average consumer angle, it’s a pretty good device. It’s not the best, though there’s really no foldable out there that does everything the best, but for those in countries where this is an option, it’s a really good option. If you’re coming from the Magic V3, or any recent foldable (I’d say from 2024 onwards), it’s probably not worth upgrading. But if you haven’t used a foldable before, it might be a good time to upgrade.

EN→DEThe HONOR Magic V5 doesn’t just stand out in the foldable category—it redefines it. While it might not have the market share or reputation of its competitors, it’s certainly a phone worth considering. With its slim, stylish design, powerful performance, excellent cameras, and unbeatable durability, this phone is more than just a pretty face. Yes, it has its quirks—like the slightly over-sharpened images and the prominent camera bump—but these are small prices to pay for the overall value it offers. If you’re in the market for a foldable that’s both practical and high-performance, the Magic V5 should be at the top of your list.

EN→DEOverall, this is an easy phone to love, with the only exception to that being the nighttime camera performance. Then there's the other caveat — U.S. customers need not apply. That's a shame, and we've already discussed the baggage that keeps Honor from entering the U.S. market. But really, we're missing out on some great phones. There's also the fact that this phone is pricey, but undercuts Samsung's (£1,799 U.K., €2,099 Germany, as of September 2025) Galaxy Z Fold 7 by £100 — or £200 if you take RAM/ROM configuration into account. Then there's the battery tech, which is very common in markets not in the U.S. and allows a battery which is a full 32% bigger. That's ridiculous, either oh Honor's part, Samsung part, or more likely both.

EN→DEI lived with the Honor Magic V5 shortly after spending a few weeks with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, so where would I spend my money? It’s a very hard question to answer, mostly because of the camera, which is genuinely superior to the Z Fold 7's. However, the Magic V5's software is not as enjoyable to use or as visually appealing as One UI 8. No matter what Honor likes to boast about, the Magic V5 and the Z Fold 7’s hardware is practically identical in terms of everyday use. I haven’t felt the small differences in weight and dimensions at all, and both are a real pleasure to hold and own. If you’re in a position to buy either folding phone, the Magic V5’s lower price makes it seriously tempting, provided you’re OK with the software requiring more care and attention than it does on the Z Fold 7. I’ll close with one last thing.

EN→DENot everyone needs everyday dual screen functionality and flexibility, so you can be forgiven for thinking folding phones are never going to be mass market. However, in territories other than the EU and the UK they are hugely popular, so I suspect they will be around for many years to come. Honor Magic V5 is one of the best examples of the folding phone form factor so far and this exciting alternative to the options from the big guns Samsung and Google ticks all the boxes it needs to. The gold colour on sale in Ireland is stunning and it looks the ultra-premium part it is playing and will make you feel good about such an expensive purchase. EN→DEThe Honor Magic V5 represents a new era of thinness for smartphones, particularly in the foldable category. This device is currently among the thinnest available on the market. I have been satisfied with my experience using the device, as it is a strong contender in the European foldable market. The phone’s price also offers good value when compared to its primary competition, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 series and the upcoming Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold.I was impressed with the quality of the camera and the steps Honor has taken to refine Magic OS 9.0. Building on the foundation of the Honor Magic V3, the phone feels fast and fluid, with no noticeable sluggishness in the user interface. While the software has room for improvement, it is on a positive trajectory.

EN→DEThe Honor Magic V5 is an impressive folding phone, offering a slim and lightweight design, plenty of power, a great camera experience, and excellent battery life. From a hardware perspective, there's little missing. The design might be a bit contentious for some – especially the huge camera housing – when compared to Samsung's phone, which I think has a better design. But each to their own. However, software remains a work in progress: Google Pay is absent, there's bloat and duplication and a reworking of some of Android that doesn't always work in my opinion. That's typical for Honor phones, though, and if you're happy with that, the Magic V5 could indeed be a foldable slice of magic in your pocket.

EN→DEThe Honor Magic V5 represents a watershed moment in foldable smartphone development. By achieving the title of world’s thinnest foldable, Honor proved that thinness and durability can coexist beautifully. The Ivory White model’s remarkable 8.8mm folded and 4.1mm unfolded dimensions set a genuinely new standard for the category. What makes the Magic V5 special, however, goes beyond record-breaking dimensions. This is a foldable that disappears into your pocket like a regular phone, yet unfolds into a productivity powerhouse when needed. The seven-year software support commitment, combined with advanced materials and engineering, suggests longevity rather than quick obsolescence. For those ready to embrace mobile computing’s future, the Honor Magic V5 offers a compelling glimpse of what that future looks like.

EN→DEIn general, the Honor Magic V5 has all the markings of a top-tier modern foldable. Its thin, its displays are brilliant, its cameras are not the best but more than adequate. Its performance is fantastic, and its software is a hodge-podge of all the useful multitasking features you've seen competitors do. From triple-app multitasking to saving screenshots and documents to a "Favorites" space, to AI features for image, text, and voice. And it still supports a stylus! In Europe, the Honor Magic V5 is slightly cheaper than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 — its main rival — and I'd say that it does have the chops to stand up to it. If you are in the US, the Honor Magic V5 may be an exotic but risky buy. First, you have to go through a 3rd party reseller. Which also means that support and warranty may be spotty. Second you have to double- and triple-check if you can connect it to your carrier.

EN→DEExamined on its lonesome, the Magic V5 is a superb smartphone. It’s stupendously slim, takes impressively detailed photos at all zoom levels, and has serious stamina between charges. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the elephant in the room, but every time the Magic V5’s software felt clunkier or less customisable than Samsung’s, something would swing things back in the Honor’s favour. The fact it’s effectively £200 (around $270) cheaper than a Fold 7 with the same amount of storage shouldn’t be overlooked, either. Crucially foldable fans now have a genuine choice between two fantastic handsets. Those who value battery life and telephoto photography should seriously consider the Honor.

EN→DEThe Honor Magic V5 absolutely nails almost everything I want from a foldable – a thin and light device not much thicker than most regular phones, but folds out into a big screen tablet – and doesn't majorly compromise on the cameras. Honor has also given the Magic V5 all the bells and whistles, with quick processing, two fantastic, bright, and colorful screens, and a battery that lasts all day and has super-fast charging. It is a shame the camera bump is a bit on the large side, as it is the only black mark on an otherwise really well-designed device. However, the larger camera bump might potentially be worth it, as the cameras in the V5 are really good – all three are solid and dependable performers, with the standout being the 64MP periscope telephoto, which takes clean, crisp photos.

EN→DEThe Honor only really has one weakness but its strange under-performance in the CPU benchmarks doesn’t really hurt the Magic V5, especially when it excels in so many other areas. It certainly doesn’t hurt it enough to lose my recommendation. The simple fact is the the Magic V5 is still plenty powerful, and will be more than nippy enough for most users. If you aren’t most users, and you need the absolute pinnacle of performance (not an unreasonable request when we’re talking about this kind of money), you’ll be better off with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. It’s basically just as thin, also has excellent stamina and cameras and gets you that lightning fast performance you need. EN→DEEverything that was true of the Magic V3 is just as true of its successor. Honor has again proven its mastery of mobile engineering, and created one of the most technically capable devices out there; from hardware design to performance, battery tech to photographic ability. But just as what made the V3 so good has only been enhanced with the Magic V5, so too are the areas where Honor’s phones tend to falter. Provided you’re comfortable getting to grips with some of the clunkier aspects of the phone’s MagicOS experience, and you don’t take umbrage with the assortment of features unashamedly lifted from other phone makers’ software experiences, the feature density and versatility served up by the Magic V5 is unprecedented. EN→DEFrom the moment I picked up the Honor Magic V5, I knew I was in for something special. Even after using the phone as my daily driver for several weeks, I still can’t get over just how slim the whole thing is, and it’s made the prospect of having a larger screen on the go, a far more comfortable one than before. The design is what draws you in but it’s everything else that cements the V5 as a great phone in its field. The fantastic camera array proves that foldables don’t need to take a backseat where smartphone photography is concerned, and the two-day battery life has made any anxiety about longevity a thing of the past. If it wasn’t for the cumbersome nature of MagicOS, the phone would be near perfect, but if you are someone who values the software experience above all then you’re going to appreciate the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 or the OnePlus Open to a greater degree. EN→DEHaving used the Magic V5 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Vivo X Fold 5, it's clear that Honor nailed the brief this year. The Magic V5 holds its own against its immediate rivals, and it is just as sleek to hold and use. The absurdly-sized camera module tends to be a little annoying, but it's worth the inconvenience when you see just how good the cameras are on the device. Honor has a definite edge over Samsung in key areas: the cameras are undoubtedly better than the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and the Magic V5 has much better battery life, and the OLED panels are brighter and have meaningful eye protection features. The downside is that the MagicOS software still isn't quite as good as what you get on Samsung and Vivo foldables, and Honor really needs to overhaul the visuals and modernize the UI.

It combines an impressively thin and lightweight design with premium materials, a robust hinge, and class-leading IP58/IP59 ingress protection - a rare achievement in this segment. Both displays are large, sharp and feature-packed, with stylus support and Dolby Vision certification, while the nice stereo speakers round out the excellent multimedia experience. Performance is flagship-grade thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, and Honor's generous memory and storage options leave little to be desired. EN→DESlimmer than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold7 (but only just), HONOR's foldable raises the bar for streamlined foldables. With three cameras on the back (capable of extreme zoom) and one 20MP dual camera on the front, taking snaps has never been such a pleasure. Like other luxury foldables of its ilk, it can run multiple apps at once on the main screen, so you can see everything in a single view. However, calling up these apps can be a bit hit-and-miss: it takes practice to drag open the apps bar from the edge of the screen. Viewing spreadsheets and streaming content is much easier on this phone-tablet hybrid, even if some content remains confined to its original screen ratio. Price-wise, it's about the same cost as Samsung's latest folding interation, so be in no doubt who its main competitor is.

EN→DEYet again Honor has produced some exquisite folding phone hardware that is let down by its software. MagicOS has improved over the last few years, but it lacks much of the customisation and capabilities possible on rivals. The biggest problem is that it lacks polish, with rough patches or irritating behaviours across the system. None of them is a deal-breaker, but they build up and can’t be overlooked on a £1,700 phone. It’s a shame as the phone is fast, the battery life is great, the camera is highly capable and it looks fabulous.

While most of the marketing seems to revolve around that slender design, there's plenty more going on with these bendy smartphones. For one, they're both powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite ('For Galaxy' in the case of the Z Fold 7). So the Honor Magic V5 and Samsung's rival can blaze through games like Wuthering Waves, no worries. Battery life is one of the biggest differences, and one of the reasons I'd rather use the Honor Magic V5 as my full-time folding phone.

The HONOR Magic V5 is the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone — just 8.8mm slim with a massive 5820mAh battery, Snapdragon 8 Elite power, and a stunning 7.95” display. In this review, I test its design, durability, cameras, AI features, and battery life to see if this is the foldable phone that finally gets everything right.

EN→DEWhile it also comes with a slightly higher price tag of S$2,199, we feel that the Magic V5 still offers excellent value compared to other pricey book-style foldables such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 or OPPO Find N5, even if its battery uptime in controlled testing isn’t as high as its predecessor. Not to mention, the higher price tag is also due to the additional RAM and faster storage offered on the Magic V5 compared to the V3, and we haven’t yet even accounted for other tangible improvements that the phone boasts. The ability to have three apps running at the same time is a boon for productivity, and there’s a decent suite of AI tools that work well enough without becoming too gimmicky. The cameras are fantastic, and the upgraded 64MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom offers more flexibility when shooting far-away subjects.

EN→DEThe HONOR Magic V5 sets a new standard for slim foldables without compromising on performance or features. It delivers solid photography, smooth display performance, and excellent battery life in a surprisingly thin package. While the camera bump and video playback quirks are notable drawbacks, its value proposition is hard to ignore, especially at a competitive price point of RM6,999. For those considering a foldable phone, the Magic V5 is a serious contender.

EN→DEHonor somehow manages to improve on its flagship foldable year-on-year. From the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip to the new dust resistance rating, or a bigger battery with further reduced thickness and weight, the Magic V5 is an upgrade across the board. EN→DEHONOR Magic V5As the market becomes saturated with newly released foldables, the HONOR Magic V5 certainly faces some tough competition. While its form factor is impressive, there other phones are capable of matching its thinness, as evidenced in the competition tab. That said, there is more to the device than its appearance, which, by the way, is quite bewitching. Its deceptively durable build, IP59 rating, and stylus support stand, in my humble opinion, as its strong points. It also comes with lots of practical features. The highlight is naturally the multitasking function, which is fun, convenient, and easy to access. For RM6,999, the Magic V5 certainly lives up to its name, offering an experience that’s nothing short of enchanting.

EN→DEIf there's a prize for the slimmest foldable phone, then the Honor Magic V5 is definitely taking it — for now. At 8.88mm thick, Honor's latest foldable is so thin, it feels just like a regular phone. Compared against, say the newest Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which claims a 8.9mm thickness, you can barely tell the difference. But as slim as it may be, you still have to get used to the phone's massive camera bump, which really sticks out. It also doesn't help that the camera makes the Honor Magic V5 unbalanced when unfolded, which feels a tad irritating when trying to use it while it's lying on the table. The camera bump helps to keep the phone stable when folded, though.

EN→DEWhen it comes to flagship book-style foldables, there are really only a few serious choices in the game and the Honor Magic V5 is one of them. You get the world’s slimmest phone with flagship-grade displays and hardware, good cameras and solid build quality. Add in its generous assortment of free accessories that include a casing and a charger and the Honor Magic V5 makes for a compelling choice if you’re looking for a flagship foldable.

EN→DEFoldable phones are lit at the moment and are getting a lot of attention and IMHO rightly so. We have got to the point where we can now make the choice between having a skinny slab with a 6ish-inch display or a skinny phone with two displays, one hiding away until it is needed. All the big players have one (except Apple, but trust me, it’s coming). However, in this spicy but growing sector of the smartphone market, there is a lot of competition to have the best in categories. Honor have stuck to what they do best, as they proved last year with the Honor Magic V3; they have gone thin. They have (for the moment at least) the thinnest* folding phone in the world, the Honor Magic V5, at a preposterous 8.8mm folded and 4.1 mm unfolded. Sounds good, let’s have a closer look then.

EN→DEThere’s little to say about the software experience at this point. Honor didn’t say much about it and with the focus being initially on the launch in China, I’m not surprised: the software experience built around Google and offering AI features will come in the future. I wouldn’t expect it to vary too much from the sort of thing we’ve seen on the Honor Magic 7 Pro or the Honor 400 Pro, though. But for now I’m happy to put the software to one side. It’s Honor’s hardware that shines and this is going to be a powerful folding phone, which is slim, lightweight and potentially offering great battery life. The ball now falls into Samsung’s court, while we’re expecting to hear more about the Honor Magic V5’s global launch later in the summer. Currently there’s no price on the Honor Magic V5, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it keeps the £1,699.99 asking price.

EN→DEI think a good foldable phone needs to excel in four key areas. It needs to be slim and light, have strong battery life, be robust and durable and have high-class cameras. Considering what you have to pay for the things, this doesn’t seem like an unreasonable list, and yet most foldables on UK shelves fall down in one area or another. I won’t be sure on the battery life or quality of the cameras until the time comes for my full review but, based on the specs, I’d say Honor has a pretty decent balance on its hands. The camera hardware and bigger battery look promising, the slimness of the build is an affront to physics at this point and the dust and water resistance is the best we’ve seen from a foldable so far – though there’s room for Samsung to do better.

EN→DEWith the support of various black technologies, Honor Magic V5 brings 8 full-blood experiences: full-blood folding performance, full-blood satellite communication, full-blood exit experience, full-blood dust and water resistance, full-blood fast charging ecology, full-blood dual-screen experience, full-blood solid external screen, and full-blood periscope telephoto. In summary, Honor Magic V5 uses the four-dimensional strategy of "hardware stacking + process breakthrough + AI interaction + ecological integration" to promote folding screen mobile phones from "form innovation" to "experience revolution". With 8 full-blooded experiences, 8 world records, 8 one-language AIs, and 7 AI ecosystems, it has achieved a comprehensive breakthrough in hardware and folding technology, and brought PC-level productivity with AI intelligence, anchoring the core goal of "letting high-end technology serve practical needs" and reshaping the industry benchmark for folding screen flagships.
