Das ThinkPad X1 Extreme ist die Verbraucherversion der ThinkPad-P1-Arbeitsstation. Von Multi-Monitor-Unterstützung über eine reiche MR/VR-Erfahrung bis zu intensivem Gamen, das ThinkPad X1 Extreme kommt problemlos mit allen anspruchsvollen Aufgaben klar. Lenovo bricht mit dem X1 Extreme auch keine Traditionen. Das Gehäuse des Laptops besteht aus Kohlefaser und wirkt robust, Schnittstellen sind an beiden Seiten gut erreichbar. Die verlässliche ThinkPad-Tastatur und der Mausknopf sind auch zurück, sie sitzen gegenüber einem 15,6-Zoll-Bildschirm, der wahlweise ein gewöhnliches Full-HD-Display oder ein 4-K-IPS-Touchdisplay mit HDR und Dolby-Vision sowie Unterstützung für ein Stylus mit Neigefunktion und Schattierung sein kann. Nutzer können sich zwischen einem Coffee-Lake-Core-i5 oder -i7 Prozessor achter Generation entscheiden, dazu bis zu 64 GB DDR4-Dual-DIMM-RAM mit 2666 MHz. Dann ist da der Speicherplatz in Form von bis zu 2 TB, die über duale M.2-PCI-Express-NVMe-SSDs mit RAID-Unterstützung konfiguriert werden können. Das ist eine gewaltige Menge an blitzschnellem Speicherplatz, wodurch arbeiten mit großen und komplizierten Dateien in den meisten Programm zum Kinderspiel wird. Im Grafikbereich könnte das X1 Extreme anderen scheinbar unterliegen. Theoretisch dürfte es mit einer GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q GPU die Leistung eines XPS oder Elitebooks erreichen, doch mit dem 1050-Ti-Chip mit voller Spannung, der in Zenbook Pros steckt, kann es nicht mithalten.
Lenovo setzt beim ThinkPad X1 Extreme ein kleines (und leichtes) Netzteil sowie einen 80-WH-Akku ein, letzterer soll dank Lenovos RapidCharge-Technologie in einer Stunde bis zu 80 Prozent geladen sein. Neben der Tastatur befinden sich sogar ein Fingerabdruckleser und eine Windows-Hello-Kamera, die mit der ThinkShutter-Kameraabdeckung bedeckt werden kann. Windows-10-Pro ist vorinstalliert, somit kann man die eingebaute Kamera nutzen, um den Laptop mit einem Gesichts-Scan zu entsperren. Für Konnektivität stehen zwei USB-3.0-Anschlüsse und ein SD-Kartenleser auf der rechten Seite bereit, was toll ist, um schnell ein externes Speichergerät anzuschließen oder Dateien direkt von einer SD-Karte zu kopieren. Auf der anderen Seite befinden sich zwei Thunderbolt-Schnittstellen, Full-size-HDMI, ein Netzanschluss, und eine Audiobuchse. Dank der Thunderbolt- und HDMI-Schnittstellen lassen sich bis zu drei externe Monitore gleichzeitig anschließen, was perfekt für Videoschnitt oder Arbeit mit komplexen Programmen ist, die einen größeren Bildschirmbereich brauchen. Darüber hinaus ist das X1 Extreme sofort mit den führenden VR/MR-Headsets einsatzbereit, inklusive dem Oculus-Rift. Lenovos ThinkPad X1 Extreme packt tatsächlich viel Leistung in ein absurd schlankes und leichtgewichtiges Gehäuse. Für Nutzer, die sich nach einem mobilen Kraftpaket umsehen, das gelegentlich auch für Gaming zur Stelle steht, ist das X1 Extreme ein tolle Wahl.

Was Lenovo sandbagging our benchmarks here? Maybe just a tad but it is what it is, as they say, and you can dial things back a bit if this config is too rich for your blood. In the end, the Lenovo ThinkPad Extreme is an extremely well-equipped, powerful laptop with a beautiful 4K HDR display option that delivers workstation and enthusiast-class performance levels in a light, 4lb, extremely well-built machine. As long as you don't mind the relatively short battery life of its high-end display configuration, this new, larger 15-inch format ThinkPad X1 variant will handle just about anything anyone would throw at a laptop these days, and do so with grace and agility.

There are several 16-inch laptops that are powerful creativity workstations and cost a lot of money, like the MSI Creator Z16P and Apple MacBook Pro 16. But there are also considerably less expensive options, like the HP Envy 16 that’s just as fast and also enjoys an awesome display (in its case, an OLED panel). That makes the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 slightly less easy to universally recommend.

We know that, but we're still denying the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 an Editors' Choice award because it seems to join the Apple MacBook Pro 16 in the cost-no-object class (at least for independent contractors out there) while a recent crop of affordable OLED laptops are standout values. But if your company offers you an X1 Extreme or allows you to purchase one or more, you're lucky indeed. Don't look that gift horse in the mouth.

Lenovo („Le“ vom englischen legend, novo (Latein) für neu) wurde 1984 als chinesische Computerhandelsfirma gegründet. Ab 2004 war die Firma der größte Laptop-Hersteller Chinas und nach der Übernahme der PC-Sparte von IBM im Jahr 2005 der viertgrößte weltweit. Neben Desktops und Notebooks stellt das Unternehmen Monitore, Beamer, Server etc her und hat sich auf die Entwicklung, Herstellung und Vermarktung von Unterhaltungselektronik, Personalcomputern, Software, Unternehmenslösungen und damit verbundenen Dienstleistungen spezialisiert.
Im Jahr 2016 belegte das Unternehmen weltweit den ersten Platz bei den Computerverkäufen. Auch 2023 hatte es ihn noch inne bei ca 23% Weltmarktanteil. Wichtige Produktreihen sind Thinkpad, Legion und Ideapad.
2011 wurde die Mehrheit der Medion AG übernommen, einem europäischen Computer-Hardware-Hersteller. 2014 wurde Motorola Mobility gekauft, wodurch Lenovo einen Schub am Smartphone-Markt erreichte.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q: Effiziente Variante der GeForce GTX 1050 Ti gedacht für dünne und leichte Gaming Laptops. Etwa 10-15 % langsamer als eine normale GTX 1050 Ti bei deutlich reduziertem Stromverbrauch (40-46 versus 64 Watt).
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile: Mittelklasse-Grafikkarte basierend auf Nvidias Pascal-Architektur und Nachfolger der GeForce GTX 965M. Wird im 14-nm-Prozess bei Samsung gefertigt und die technischen Daten entsprechen weitestgehend der Desktop-Version.
Diese Grafikkarten sollten alle modernen Spiele flüssig darstellen können. Anspruchsvolle Spiele müssen jedoch in mittlerer Detailstufe gespielt werden. Ältere und weniger anspruchsvolle Spiele wie die Sims Serie können auch in hohen Detailsstufen flüssig dargestellt werden.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q: Mid-Range Notebook-Grafikkarte basierend auf der Desktop GTX 1650 mit Turing Architektur. Bietet keine Raytracing und Tensor-Kerne im Gegensatz zu den stärkeren RTX 2000 Modellen. Im Vergleich zur normalen 1650, ist die Max-Q Variante niedriger getaktet bei deutlich niedrigerem Stromverbrauch (35 versus 50 Watt).
High-End Grafikkarten welche auch neueste und anspruchsvolle 3D-Spiele in hohen Auflösungen und Detailstufen flüssig wiedergeben können. Durch den hohen Stromverbrauch, werden diese GPUs nur in großen und schweren Notebooks mit geringen Akkulaufzeiten angeboten.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU: High-End Notebook-Grafikkarte und Refresh der 3070 welche Anfang 2022 vorgestellt wurde und auf den GA104 basiert.

Intel Alder Lake-P:
i7-12800H: Auf der Alder-Lake-Architektur basierender High-End Mobilprozessor. Bietet 6 Performance-Kerne und 8 Effizienzkerne und kann 20 Threads gleichzeitig bearbeiten. Der maximale Turbo-Takt der P-Kerne beträgt 4,8 GHz. Weiters unterstützt die CPU vPro Enterprise.

16.00: Dieser Bereich für Displayformate war und ist eine Seltenheit. Es ist größer als der allgemeine Standard von 15 Zoll, aber noch nicht im Bereich der großen Workstations. Man hat üblicherweise höhere Bildschirmauflösungen zur Verfügung, darunter leidet aber auch die Portabilität.
