Laptop Mag verwendet für die Akkulaufzeit den Begriff "epic", Notebookreview erwähnt 10 Stunden. Kein Zweifel, dieser leicht unterdurchschnittlich großer Laptop ist für mobile Verwendungszwecke speziell abseits von Steckdosen vorgesehen. Der Bildschirm wird meist nicht so schlecht gesehen mit Ausnahme der russischen Site Retera, die ihrem T420 Modell eine besonders schlechte Bildschirmwertung bescheinigen.

The ThinkPad T420 or T420i is a great option as a college laptop. It has the battery life, usability and build quality it takes to get work done around campus. The option of configuring either a budget level laptop of around $800 or high-end laptop configuration of $1,400+ is great and allows you to design a laptop that fits your needs, but still get the same build and design quality no matter what you include. I like the fact the option for a higher resolution screen is present, for those of us that find we can do work more efficiently using two windows open at once on the screen you will appreciate the 1600 x 900 resolution screen. Overall a thumbs up on buying the T420 that is a worth successor to the previous ThinkPad T410 and improves on an already great line of laptops.

The anti-glare screen prevents reflections and with a 1600x900 resolution, provides a lot of working space. The keyboard has a highly functional layout and the trackpoint and Touchpad are easy to use. All this functionality can be taken to the road thanks to the 10 hours of battery from the optional 9-cell. Bottom line, the ThinkPad T420 isn't just a good business laptop ... the T420 is an excellent choice for business, home, and student use.

Lieber das T420 NW4NGGE mit i7-2620M oder doch das hier getestete, günstigere T420 4180-WGB mit i5-2410M? Die Antwort ist einfach. Das T420 ist primär ein Notebook für on-the-go, und als solches wird es wohl kaum den heimischen Desktop-Boliden ablösen müssen.

Lenovo: Lenovo („Le“ vom englischen legend, novo (Latein) für neu) ist der größte Personal-Computer-Hersteller Chinas (26 % Marktanteil) und seit der Übernahme der PC-Sparte von IBM im Jahr 2005 der viertgrößte weltweit. Das Produktionsvolumen liegt bei knapp zwölf Millionen Geräten im Jahr. Neben PCs (ThinkCentre, Lenovo Value Line) und Notebooks (ThinkPad, Lenovo 3000 und andere) stellt das Unternehmen Monitore, Beamer, Server und Handheld-Computer her. Der Hauptsitz des Unternehmens befindet sich in North Carolina, die Hauptniederlassungen sind in Peking und Singapur. Lenovo ist nach Angaben des Marktforschers IDC (Q2 2008) mit 7,5 % Marktanteil der weltweit viertgrößte Hersteller von Personal Computern (HP 18,9 %, Dell 16,4 %, Acer 9,9 % ).

Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.

Intel HD Graphics 3000: In Sandy Bridge Prozessoren (Core ix-2xxx) integrierte Grafikkarte von Intel. Stärkere GT2 genannte Version mit 12 Execution Units (EUs). Je nach Modell mit unterschiedlichen Taktraten (350-650MHz) und TurboBoost Unterstützung (900-1350MHz).

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

NVIDIA NVS 4200M: Business Grafikkarte basierend auf die GeForce GT 520M mit speziellen für Business Anwendungen angepassten Treibern. Die Taktraten können laut Nvidia bis zu 810 / 1620 MHz betragen, im Dell 6420 ist sie jedoch nur auf 740 / 1480 getaktet (= GT 520M Niveau).

14.0: 14 Zoll Display-Grösse stellt ein Mittelding zwischen den kleinen Subnotebook-Formaten und dem 15 Zoll-Standard-Display dar. Der Grund der Beliebtheit mittelgrosser Displays ist, dass diese Größe einigermaßen augenschonend ist und dennoch nicht allzu viel Strom verbraucht und die Geräte noch halbwegs kompakt sein können.
