Das speziell für den Gaming-Bereich konzipierte Android-Tablet überzeugt im Test mit einem kontrastreichen 8-Zoll-Display, das dazu noch den sRGB-Farbraum nahezu abdeckt. Das Tablet mit Intel-CPU läuft zwar flüssig, im Benchmark enttäuscht der Prozessor aber. Der größte Schwachpunkt im Test ist die Akku-Laufzeit mit 3,5 Stunden in der Videowiedergabe.

Wenn ein Tablet voll auf Gaming ausgelegt ist, dann sollte es besonders beim Spielen keine Schwächen haben. Leider hat das Acer Predator 8 genau damit Probleme und einige Spiele ruckeln. Andere Spiele wie Dead Effect 2 lassen sich gar nicht erst starten.

Das Acer Predator 8 will ein Tablet für Gamer sein und begründet mit diesem Anspruch seine gesamte Existenz. Leider geht das Konzept nur zum Teil auf. Optisch ist das Predator auf jeden Fall ein Hingucker und auch die Games sehen größtenteils sehr gut aus und gehen ebenso von der Hand. Nett ist auch der Media Master, mit dem sich das Display- und Audio-Setup zumindest minimal konfigurieren lässt.

Das Acer Predator 8 hat seine Vorzüge. Die Optik ist ungewöhnlich, der Prozessor leistungsstark und der Klang der Lautsprecher sehr gut. Wo Licht ist, ist aber auch Schatten. Die Akku-Laufzeit ist zu wenig, die Zahl der Bloatware-Apps dafür zu viel. Für ein Gerät, das sich exakt an eine Zielgruppe wie die Gamer richtet, fehlen zudem spannende Zusatzfeatures, die es anderswo gibt.

Das Acer Predator 8 ist ein gutes Tablet, das sich nicht nur fürs Gaming eignet, sondern seine Arbeit auch als normales Tablet sehr gut erfüllt. Letztendlich zielt Acer jedoch auf Gamer ab und diese werden nur zu Teilen gut bedient. Die Leistung ist für ein Gaming-Tablet entsprechend hoch, doch gerade bei den 3D-Benchmarks hätten wir uns etwas mehr vom Intel Atom X7-Prozessor erhofft.

The love-or-hate looks will divide opinions but regardless makes the Predator 8 stand out in a crowd of black rectangles. It can't be accused of ignoring raw horsepower, either, putting in the most powerful option it could at the time from its partner, Intel.

The Acer Predator 8 has a really nice immersive feel when it comes to playing games, and this is in part down the haptic feedback provided by the inbuilt haptic engine. You could feel when the car was “boosted” and also when you crashed. It is a very similar experience to the Force feedback that you find on the PlayStation 4 controller, albeit toned down slightly and not quite as intelligent.

The Acer Predator 8 does a lot of things well. It’s a good size and weight and feels well made. Its front-facing speakers and display are particularly excellent, making it a great tablet for watching video. As a specific gaming tablet, however, it comes up short. There’s not much there specifically geared towards gamers. The haptic feedback is under-utilised. It has double the storage for the same price as the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 but its actual gaming performance can’t hold a candle.

While I'm still not quite ready to suggest that any tablet has replaced the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet for "Most Versatile", this Predator 8 certainly takes the current crown for "Most Daring". Four front-facing speakers and a shape like no other tablet - not to mention aesthetic flare the likes of which we've only otherwise seen on the rest of Acer's Predator line of gaming PCs - all of this adds up to a very unique piece of work.

The Acer Predator 8 is a unique slate tablet with a design and specs catered specifically toward gamers. It has a good screen and smooth performance, while features like haptic feedback and quad speakers definitely help to enhance gameplay. That said, diehard gamers will find newer and higher-quality titles for the iPad mini. If you're looking to stick with Android, the Asus ZenPad S gets you a sharper display and slightly better battery life for the same price. The Galaxy Tab S2 is a more expensive option, but gets you top-notch hardware and one of the best tablet screens available. And while we haven't tested it yet, the Nvidia Shield K1 looks to be a solid bet, with gaming-geared hardware for $100 less than the Predator 8.

As a result, it’s difficult to recommend the Predator Tablet over Nvidia’s tab.

Acer Predator 8 is definitely an unusual device and we mean it in the positive way. Sadly, for the time being the unit we had is an engineering sample and we can’t perform all our tests on it, since some of its components don’t work as intended. Anyway we can add its four loudspeakers, as well as the vibration motors for more realistic gaming to the pros. The tablet a typical aggressive gaming design with combined various colors and materials in a unique-looking construction. It also boasts high performance with Intel’s Atom X7-Z8700 SoC with Intel’s HD Graphics GPU. Images appear detailed on the 8-inch screen and thanks to the IPS panel it has high maximum brightness, contrast ratio, rich and vivid colors and wide viewing angles. Last, but not least, we should mention that all the pre-installed applications and neat features, which Acer has included to the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS, make the user experience even better.

The Acer Predator 8 is an interesting device since we've not really seen a gaming tablet like it. It's also a lot cheaper than rivals such as a Nvidia Shield. We're not sure about having four speakers due to the noisy show floor but we do really like the force feedback on offer. Just remember that it's still mobile gaming since the device runs Android. Modell: Von Acer als "Gaming-Gerät mit überwältigendem Sound" angekündigt, ist das Predator 8 Acers jüngstes Angebot im bereits gesättigtem Android-Tablet-Market. Trotzdem handelt es sich beim Predator 8 nicht nur um ein weiteres Android-Tablet. Sein bedrohliches Design lässt keinen Zweifel an seiner Leistung. Die Predator ColorBlast Technologie verspricht brillante Farben am 8 Zoll großen Full-HD-Bildschirm (1920 x 1080). Für maximales Gaming-Erlebnis wurde das Design des Predator 8 fast rahmenlos gehalten. Es ist mit Soft-Grip-Pads an der Rückseite weiter verstärkt. Laut Acer kann das Predator Quadio im Predator 8 ein Surround-Sound-Erlebnis erreichen, da es mit 4 Lautsprechern ausgestattet ist.

Mit dem Ziel die Herzen von Gamern zu gewinnen, bietet das Predator 8 das haptische Predator TacSense Feedback. Dabei sind zwei speziell entworfene Motoren darauf abgestimmt, ein starkes Vibrations-Feedback zu liefern. Das Predator 8 wird durch Intels Atom x7-Z8700 1,6 GHz Quad-Core-Prozessor mit einer Intel HD Graphics Gen 8-LP GPU sowie 2 GB RAM und wahlweise 32 oder 64 GB Speicher angetrieben. Die Speicherkapazität kann dank eines Micro-SD-Slots um bis zu 128 GB erweitert werden. Das Tablet läuft unter Android 5.1 Lollipop. Seine Akkulaufzeit ist relativ kurz, obwohl es als ultimatives Gaming-Gerät angepriesen wird. Mit einer 5-MP-Kamera an der Rückseite und einer 3-MP-Frontkamera bleibt es dennoch ein absolut funktionelles Tablet.

Intel HD Graphics (Cherry Trail): Grafikeinheit in den Tablet-SoCs der Cherry-Trail-Serie. Basiert auf der Broadwell-GPU (Intel Gen8), unterstützt DirectX 12 (FL 11_1) und bietet je nach Modell 12 oder 16 EUs.

Diese Karten können nur sehr alte und sehr anspruchslose 3D Spiele flüssig darstellen.  Anwendungen wie Office, Internet surfen, Bildbearbeitung oder (SD) Videoschnitt sind jedoch ohne große Einschränkungen möglich.
