But for an eye-catching new technology that's hard to find -- Samsung, HP and Lenovo each offer a single OLED PC product, and none for gaming -- the price for this Alienware 13 is surprisingly modest.

There's a lot to like about the Alienware 13. Its design is distinct and super-compact, its lighting is insanely customizable and its speakers are loud enough to fill your room. However, with a low-res 1366 x 768 display and gaming performance that's "meh" at best, you shouldn't settle for the lowest-end version of Alienware's slick laptop.

You’d probably expect top-notch performance in a tiny 13-inch form factor with the label Alienware on it and you are probably right to do so but in reality, the Alienware 13 is everything but a gaming powerhouse. Yes, we are once again met with impeccable build quality with excellent choice of materials – typically for an Alienware product – slightly bulky and a bit hefty for a 13-incher but nothing too alarming, especially for a gaming machine that is. We are still pretty impressed by the horsepower, storage options, and battery that the engineers were able to stick inside the small chassis. For example, you can get a hold of two M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD slots along with a 51Wh battery that will last for nearly a day with normal usage. That’s more than some other premium notebooks and ultrabooks can offer. And to be honest, that was the last thing we were expecting from a gaming-oriented notebook. Oh, and the touchpad and keyboard are pretty comfortable as well.

The bottom line? If you fit the profile -- you mostly play games at home but want a powerful laptop when traveling -- the combination of an Alienware 13 R2 and Alienware Graphics Amplifier may be the solution you've been waiting for. If you're not interested in the AMP, take pause to consider if you can be content with a GeForce GTX 960M, as it's the only option available at this time.

Just because it's the smallest, that doesn't mean that the Alienware 13 R2 can't play with the big boys. It's the perfect size to curl up with on the couch or stow in a book bag for a long trip. The lovely superhigh-res display and powerful speakers make the 13 R2 a veritable multimedia powerhouse.

Modell: Dieser Laptop der Alienware-Gaming-Serie von DELL ist die kleinere Version des Alienware 17. Die 13 im Namen weist auf einen 13-Zoll-Bildschirm hin. Während es sich um eine preisgünstigere Variante für Gamer handelt, ist sie dennoch wie die anderen Alienware-Laptops mit einem konfigurierbaren Hintergrundlicht gestaltet. Der Computer weist eine sehr glatte graue Farbe mit dem Alien-Kopf in der Mitte des Bildschirmdeckels auf. Zudem verfügt die Tastatur über ein blaues Hintergrundlicht. Der Laptop ist mit drei USB-Ports, einem Gigabit-Ethernet-Port und einem HDMI-Ausgang ausgestattet. Außerdem ist er mit 2,09 kg sehr leicht und es handelt sich um den schlankesten Alienware-Laptop, der derzeit am Markt erhältlich ist. Eines seiner besten Features ist sein sehr reaktionsfreudiger Touchscreen.

Dank 4 GB RAM ist der Computer gut für Multitasking geeignet und es stehen 500 GB Festplattenspeicher zur Verfügung. Weiters verfügt er über eine Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M mit 2 GB VRAM, welche die anspruchsvollsten Video-Settings am Full-HD-Bildschirm zu einem Kinderspiel macht. Weitere Vorteile sind, dass der Laptop sehr robust ist und sein Akku im Idle-Betrieb bis zu 10,5 Stunden durchhält. Allerdings beträgt die Akkulaufzeit beim Gaming mit hohen Einstellungen nur 3,5 Stunden. Außerdem ist der Computer mit einem Intel i5 Prozessor ausgestattet. Dabei handelt es sich zwar nicht um die leistungsstärkste CPU, doch als kleineres Modell benötigt der Laptop nicht unbedingt einen i7 Prozessor. Das Windows-10-System ist mit zwei Klipsch Lautsprechern ausgestattet, die für Filme und Musik sehr leistungsstark sind.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
