Every convertible design has its trade-offs but the XPS 13 2-in-1 is the most attractive take we’ve seen on the idea. Dell has created an uncompromising laptop that just happens to also offer the convenient option of flipping around into tent or tablet mode. Of course, if you have no use for the folding design, you can save money by choosing a regular Dell XPS 13 or a Surface Laptop with a taller, sharper screen. Conversely, if you plan to use tablet mode on a regular basis, you might find the Surface Pro 7 suits you better: it’s lighter and doesn’t have a keyboard sticking out of the back. But for many users, we suspect the idea of a high-quality touchscreen system that can occasionally be transformed into other modes will hit the sweet spot. Even if you’d usually turn your nose up at a convertible, you might find it hard to resist the charms of this fast, stylish and portable machine.

Budget extra for a microfiber cloth; one clear drawback of these 2-in-1 jiggers is that your screen will always have smudgy fingerprints on it.

On top of that, this system is a real looker and very lightweight while being durable and versatile. If you've been hanging onto an older business-class notebook, it's time to consider and upgrade. To sum up this laptop's performance with Intel 10th Gen Core CPUs we'll borrow a line from Seinfeld: they're here and they're spectacular.

The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is possibly the best 13-inch convertible on the market, hands down. It solves some major pain points of previous generations, mainly having to do with performance. Of course, the webcam finally being above the display instead of beneath it is a big plus. My two biggest complaints are that it doesn't ship with the pen, and that there's no IR camera. For the pen, it's a real shame that a premium PC like this doesn't come with it. I'd expect that kind of cost-cutting from an Inspiron, but not an XPS. Of course, Microsoft sells the pen separately on Surface PCs too, so I guess this is acceptable. The bit about the IR camera isn't a big deal to me. It has a fingerprint sensor, and frankly, I'm only logging into the PC once per session.

Like with the new Dell XPS 13 laptops, Dell has come to its senses and moved the webcam to the north side of the display, meaning whoever you’re videocalling won’t be staring at your chin the whole time – previously, Dell had mounted cameras under the south bezel, which allowed for rather unflattering views of your face. Despite this move, the bezel here is very thin – you’d be hard pressed to spot the camera sensor at a glance. I barely even noticed it was there initially.

At this point, we're just comparing two fantastic portable PCs though. You can't really go wrong with either. The XPS 13 is going to provide a great all-around experience, and yes, it's a bit lighter and more inexpensive than the 2-in-1. If a clamshell is what you're in the market for, then the XPS 13 is for you.

The six-core XPS 13 is a strange computer. It feels like a holdover until something better is available in both design and internals. That first part probably isn’t too far off, since CES 2020 is just about a month away, but it’s hard to say how long it will be before Intel introduces Ice Lake chips that have six cores, a 10-nanometer die, and the improved Iris Plus Graphics. Once that happens, then we’ll have some real performance jumps in the thin and light category to celebrate.

The XPS 13 7390 excels in all the usual areas including display, performance and, of course, its design. That said, we cannot recommend purchasing this particular model. In particular, its entire reason for being lies with the inclusion of a 10th-gen Intel CPU, but it’s barely an improvement of the 8th-gen chip fitted into the early 2019 edition. While the late 2019 Dell XPS is excellent in its own right, users are better off either grabbing its predecessor, or better yet, holding out for the 2020 XPS 13 - which promises key design changes in addition to more impressive hardware.

As always, the XPS 13 7390 is an amazing laptop to have. Not only it is one of the most portable notebooks on the market, but it also provides performance beyond the expectations of a ULV processor. As we saw in the temperature segment of this review, the laptop was actually able to maintain 2.70 GHz of sustained clock speed – a feat that is still hard for some gaming notebooks on the market.

Dell: Dell ist ein 1984 gegründeter US-amerikanischer Hersteller (Sitz Texas) von Computer-Hardware und gehört zu den grössten internationalen Herstellern sowohl in Bezug auf Marktanteile als auch hinsichtlich Notebook-Modellen. Die Produktpalette umfasst unter anderem Desktops, Notebooks, Speichersysteme, Monitore, Server, Drucker, Unterhaltungselektronik und Peripheriegeräte. Dell bietet Laptops an, die ich für verschiedene Einsatzbereiche eignen, z. B. Business-Laptops, Gaming-Laptops, Ultra-Portables und Workstations. Die Business-Notebooks von Dell aus den Latitude- und Precision-Serien sind eine Option für professionelle Anwender und Unternehmen.

2023 hatte Dell einen ungefähren Marktanteil von 17% am weltweiten PC-Absatz und war damit die Nummer 3 nach Lenovo und HP.

Für Gaming-Enthusiasten ist die Marke Alienware von Dell für Gaming-Notebooks vorgesehen.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

Intel Iris Plus Graphics G7 (Ice Lake 64 EU): Integrierte Grafikkarte (in Ice-Lake G7 SoCs) der Gen. 11 Architektur mit 64 EUs (Shader-Cluster). Taktet mit 300 MHz Basistakt und 1050 bzw. 1100 MHz Boost (erste Modelle). Der Ice-Lake-Chip wird im modernen 10nm Verfahren bei Intel gefertigt und soll mit 7nm bei TSMC mithalten können.

Intel UHD Graphics G1 (Ice Lake 32 EU): Integrierte Grafikkarte (in Ice-Lake G1 SoCs) der Gen. 11 Architektur mit 32 der 64 EUs (Shader-Cluster). Taktet mit 300 MHz Basistakt und 1050 bzw. 1100 MHz Boost (erste Modelle). Der Ice-Lake-Chip wird im modernen 10nm Verfahren bei Intel gefertigt und soll mit 7nm bei TSMC mithalten können.

Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrierte Grafikkarte (GT2-Ausbau, 24 EUs), welche in einigen Kaby-Lake-CPUs (Refresh, ULV-Modelle, 15 Watt TDP) verbaut wird. Technisch identisch zur HD Graphics 620 in den Kaby-Lake Modellen aus 2016.

Intel Ice Lake:

i7-1065G7: Auf der Ice-Lake-Architektur basierender ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für schlanke Notebooks und Ultrabooks. Integriert unter anderem vier CPU-Kerne der Sunnycove Microarchitektur mit 1,3 (Basis) - 3,9 GHz und HyperThreading sowie eine starke Iris Plus G7 Grafikeinheit und wird in 10-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt. Durch die 18 % bessere IPC Performance von Sunnycove versus Skylake sollte die CPU Performance mit dem alten Whisky-Lake Core i7-8565U (max 4,1 GHz) mithalten können.

i3-1005G1: Auf der Ice-Lake-Architektur basierender ULV-SoC (System-on-a-Chip) für schlanke Notebooks und Ultrabooks. Integriert unter anderem zwei CPU-Kerne der Sunnycove Microarchitektur mit 1,2 (Basis) - 3,4 GHz und HyperThreading sowie eine UHD Graphics G1 Grafikeinheit und wird in 10-Nanometer-Technik gefertigt. 

Intel Comet Lake:
