The HP EliteBook 865 G9 is a premium business laptop and yes, we do like it mostly because it has just a few cons. Let’s start with the pros – this notebook looks great thanks to its metal build and stealthy design so you can use it everywhere – in the office, in your home, during a vacation, and even in the park. Yep, the battery life that can be squeezed out of the small 51.3Wh unit is good enough for working on the go. For users who always want the best possible battery life, a 76Wh unit is available for configuring. As we said, the HP EliteBook 865 G9 doesn’t have a lot of cons, but we can mention the lack of an SD card slot, and the fact that the device has a premium price tag and a lot of the goodies are optional. If you want to use features like a Web camera with a privacy shutter, fingerprint reader, or backlit keyboard, you have to pay an additional amount of money. Still, the HP EliteBook 865 G9 is a good business laptop that boasts a great metal build, a modern design, a comfortable keyboard, and a smooth glass touchpad. In addition, the AMD Zen 3+ CPUs offer a snappy performance and good efficiency and the laptop is comfortable for work because it’s not loud and hot during heavy loads.

HP EliteBook 865 G10 review – All-Metal Business Powerhouse with Quiet Performance

The HP EliteBook 865 G10 is a snappy business device thanks to the Zen 4 CPU options. Still, we can advise you to avoid the base Ryzen 3 7440U which isn’t suitable for multitasking because it has just four cores. Our laptop has the optional Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U. The chip doesn’t dissipate tons of heat and that’s why it’s well-cooled by the modest-looking thermal system with one fan and a single heat pipe. Also, the CPU can maintain 3.32 GHz during long 100% loads which is good. At the same time, the fan is surprisingly quiet and the keyboard doesn’t feel too hot to the touch. The upgradability is decent – two SODIMMs, one M.2 slot for Gen 4 SSDs, and a WWAN for LTE or 5G connectivity. The I/O is modern with its two Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 ports, HDMI 2.1, and optional Smartcard reader.

HP: 1939 gegründet, ist das US-Unternehmen ein wichtiger Server und Druckerhersteller und eines der führenden IT-Unternehmen weltweit. Bis 2015 hieß das Unternehmen Hewlett-Packard Company. Nach einer Aufspaltung wurde der Computer-Bereich in HP Inc. umbenannt.

2023 hatte HP einen ungefähren Marktanteil von 22% am weltweiten PC-Absatz und war damit die Nummer 2 nach Lenovo.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

AMD Radeon 680M: Integrierte Grafikkarte in den Rembrandt Ryzen APUs basierend auf der RDNA2 Architektur mit 12 CUs (= 768 Shader) und einer Taktrate von bis zu 2.400 MHz.

AMD Radeon 780M: Integrierte Grafikkarte in den Rembrandt Ryzen APUs basierend auf der RDNA 3 Architektur mit 12 CUs (= 768 Shader) und einer Taktrate von bis zu 3.000 MHz.

AMD Rembrandt (Zen 3+):

R7 PRO 6850U: Mobile APU mit acht Zen 3+ basierten Kernen welche mit 2,7 bis 4,7 GHz takten. Integriert eine RDNA2 Grafikkarte mit 12 CUs und max 2,2 GHz. Der TDP ist von 15 - 28 Watt spezifiziert.

R9 PRO 6950HS: Mobile APU mit acht Zen 3+ basierten Kernen welche mit 3,3 bis 4,9 GHz takten. Die HS-Variante bietet einen um 10W reduzierten TDP und eignet sich dadurch für dünnere Notebooks. Integriert eine RDNA2 Grafikkarte mit 12 CUs und max 2,4 GHz. Integriert den Microsoft Pluton Security Prozessor.

AMD Phoenix (Zen 4, Ryzen 7040):

R9 PRO 7940HS: High-End-Mobil-8-Kern Prozessor mit 16 Threads. Taktet mit maximal 5,2 GHz auf einem Kern und kann dadurch in Single- und auch Multi-Thread-Anwendungen überzeugen. Nutzt die Zen 4 Architektur und hat einen konfigurierbaren TDP von 35-54 Watt. Integriert AMD PRO Technologien mit Management und Sicherheitsfunktionen.

R7 PRO 7840U: High-End-Mobil-8-Kern Prozessor mit 16 Threads. Taktet mit maximal 5,1 GHz auf einem Kern und kann dadurch in Single- und auch Multi-Thread-Anwendungen überzeugen. Nutzt die Zen 4 Architektur und hat einen konfigurierbaren TDP von 15-30 Watt.

16.00: Dieser Bereich für Displayformate war und ist eine Seltenheit. Es ist größer als der allgemeine Standard von 15 Zoll, aber noch nicht im Bereich der großen Workstations. Man hat üblicherweise höhere Bildschirmauflösungen zur Verfügung, darunter leidet aber auch die Portabilität.
