Das Huawei Mate X ist ein hochwertiges Flagship, welches behauptet, die Zukunft der Mobiltechnologie zu sein. Sein neues Falt-Design läutet eine neue Ära der kommunikativen Interaktion ein. Benutzer können es für alltägliche Aufgaben kompakt belassen oder für ein außergewöhnliches Multitasking- oder Unterhaltungserlebnis auseinanderfalten. Laut Tests von Huawei kann das flexible Display problemlos mehrmals gebogen und gestreckt werden. Innovation und bahnbrechende Leistung des Huawei Mate X überraschen. Das Mate XS ist jedoch nicht nur ein Nachfolger, denn neben einem markterschütternden Preis hat dieses Modell auch seine ganz eigenen Wow-Faktoren, die den Benutzer umhauen würden. Als das Mate X mit einem Display auf den Markt kam, das sich wie das erste faltbare Telefonkonzept überhaupt, das Royole FlexPai, nach außen falten lässt, erregte es definitiv viel Aufmerksamkeit, aber leider wurde dieses Modell ausschließlich auf dem chinesischen Markt verkauft. Vielleicht bemerkte Huawei die Frustration der internationalen Benutzer darüber, dass sie nicht in der Lage waren, das Mate X in die Finger zu bekommen, und brachte daraufhin die aktualisierte Version, das Mate XS, auf den Markt, um den internationalen Markt zu bedienen.
Was das Design betrifft, so entfaltet sich das Smartphone, anstatt sich wie ein Buch zusammenfalten zu lassen, das genau die gleiche Funktion wie sein Vorgänger hat. Dies steht jedoch in völligem Gegensatz zu seinem Konkurrenten, Samsung Galaxy Fold. Diejenigen, die an das Galaxy-Fold-Falten gewöhnt sind, könnten einige Schwierigkeiten haben, sich mit dem Mate XS anzupassen. Obwohl er ein ähnliches Design mit dem Mate X trägt, behauptet Huawei, dass es mit dem Mate XS einige Verbesserungen gibt. So besteht beispielsweise das Scharnier "Falcon Wing", das in das Mate XS eingebaut wurde, in Wirklichkeit aus mehr als hundert ineinander greifenden Teilen über die gesamte Länge des Telefons. Diese Aufrüstung wird ein großer Pluspunkt sein, wenn es darum geht, die gesamte Benutzererfahrung mit dem Telefon zu verbessern. Abgesehen davon fehlt bei diesem Modell die beim Samsung Galaxy Fold vorhandene Display-Falte, da das Display an der Außenseite angebracht wurde, was wiederum ein ziemlich kluger Schachzug von Huawei ist.
In gefalteter Position bietet das Mate XS Platz für ein 6,6-Zoll-AMOLED-Panel-Display, aber das wirklich Interessante an diesem Telefon ist die Erfahrung, es in seinem vollständig geöffneten 8-Zoll-Display zu verwenden. Die Erfahrung ist definitiv einzigartig für Benutzer, selbst für diejenigen, die mit dem Mate X recht vertraut sind. Der Akku im Mate XS ist wieder derselbe wie beim ursprünglichen Mate X, der 4500 mAh hat. Die Akkukapazität reicht aus, um den Gebrauch den ganzen Tag über zu unterstützen, ohne dass ein häufiges Aufladen erforderlich ist. Auch wenn er viele augenfällige Faktoren enthält, greift der Mate XS auf das Fehlen von Google App und Services zurück. Dies ist definitiv eine große Frustration für einige Nutzer, insbesondere für diejenigen, die regelmäßig Google Mail und Youtube nutzen. Die Entscheidung, Mate XS zu besitzen, ist also wiederum eine eher subjektive Entscheidung, da es genug Pluspunkte für seinen Preis bietet, aber es gibt auch einige Enttäuschungen.

And once again, Huawei has a great piece of tech, which you can't have outside of China without caveats. But if you don't mind using Huawei Mobile Services, you can get the phone for €2,499 internationally in about a month.

Although I'm confident that the Mate Xs will deal with the strains of everyday use better than other foldables, that doesn't necessarily mean it will manage as well as a standard smartphone. The extortionate price means this will not be a phone for the masses, which in a way is good. Most people won't want to do without Google apps.

We also know that it doesn’t come with the fancy leather case bundled with the original Mate X. It would have been odd selling last year’s model at a high price with older internals and the improvements to the hinge and display are always going to be welcome. I still have plenty of questions about software and I have yet to really see how apps adapt between folds - this could make or break the Mate.

Despite being over two years old, the foldable market still feels like it's in an embryonic state, which makes it exciting to keep an eye on but also somewhat frustrating when it comes to actually using these devices. I love a lot of what Huawei did here, especially the design. Having most of the weight of the phone directly on the user's hand is ingenious and it almost makes you question why no one else has done it yet. It's also one of the thinner foldables right now, and the cover display has one of the most natural aspect ratios we've seen on any foldable so far, so using it as a normal phone is actually a viable option.

Samsung's foldables are water-resistant and this one isn't, so there's that too. You can see that our main concern remains durability. The Mate Xs 2 is not without its strong points. The outie design allows for a nearly creaseless display, which looks and feel much better than what the Samsung Folds have. In tablet form the Mate is a joy to use, and in smartphone mode it can make you forget it's a foldable - the size and weight are just right. And it's a properly capable cameraphone too. Ultimately, if we were asked whether we'd go ahead and spend €2,000 of our own money on a Mate Xs 2 to use as a daily driver, the answer would still be no.

How well an outward-facing foldable will hold up over time remains to be seen, though. Still, the firm has a great track record with durability testing, and is confident its design is sturdy enough for daily use. There’s also no avoiding the lack of Google support. You have to jump through a few hoops to get the apps you’re familiar with installed, and even then it’s not always smooth sailing. But with Huawei itself now completely in charge of the operating system, updates should arrive sooner, and software support is getting better all the time.

The Huawei Mate XS2 shapes out to be a great foldable device. It feels premium, and Huawei has focused on perfecting the most important aspects of a foldable - the hinge mechanism, the crease in the screen, the durability of the flexible panel, and the functionality of the OS (despite the GMS omission).

Skinny enough when closed, paper-thin when open – the Mate Xs 2 is a seriously desirable folding phone. It’s no thicker in a pocket than a traditional brickphone, yet unfurls to double the screen size. While not running the latest, most powerful silicon, it still seems plenty fast, and appears to take a great photo. In hardware terms, it’s a genuinely appealing take on foldable tech. How well an outward-facing foldable will hold up over time remains to be seen, though. It’s definitely something we’d want to know before splashing out the considerable cash Huawei will be asking for the Mate Xs 2. Still, the firm has a great track record with durability testing, and is confident its design is sturdy enough for daily use. There’s also no avoiding the lack of Google support. You have to jump through a few hoops to get the apps you’re familiar with installed, and even then it’s not always smooth sailing. But with Huawei itself now completely in charge of the operating system, updates should arrive sooner, and software support is getting better all the time.

Huawei:

Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ist ein chinesisches Telekommunikationsunternehmen und Hardwarehersteller, das 1987 mit Sitz in Shenzhen gegründet wurde. Huawei ist ein weltweit führender Anbieter für die Infrastruktur von Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologie (ICT) sowie smarten Geräten. Huawei bietet End-to-End-Lösungen für Telekommunikationsnetze, Geräte und Smartphones sowie Storage, Server, Netzwerk- und Cloud-Computing-Unternehmenslösungen und -Produkte.

2014 gründete Huawei die Tochtermarke Honor unter der bestimmte Smartphone-Linien vertrieben werden. Der Name Huawei wird für diese Produkte meist nicht gelistet.

Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.

ARM Mali-G76 MP10: Integrierte Grafikkarte basierend auf die Bifrost Architektur der 2. Generation mit 10 Clustern. Laut ARM etwa doppelt so schnell wie eine G72 mit gleicher Anzahl an Clustern.

Im Kirin 990 5G soll die GPU eta 6% schneller als eine Adreno 640 im Snapdragon 855 sein, jedoch bei 20% besserer Effizienz.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.

ARM Mali-G78 MP24: Integrierte Grafikkarte basierend auf die 2. Generation der Varhall Architektur mit der maximalen Ausbaustufe von 24 Clustern. Aktuell eine der schnellsten Grafikkarten für Android basierende Smartphones.

Qualcomm Adreno 660: Grafikchip für Smartphones und Tablets, integriert im Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. Laut Qualcomm um 35% schneller und um 20% effizienter als die alte Adreno 650 im Snapdragon 865.

Kirin 990 5G: ARM-basierter Octa-Core-SoC (2x Cortex-A76 mit bis zu 2,86 GHz + 2x A76 mit bis zu 2,36 + 4x A53 mit bis zu 1,95 GHz) und Nachfolger des Kirin 980. Integriert eine Mali-G76 MP16 GPU, einen Neural Prozessor (2 + 1 Cores) für AI-Aufgaben und wird im 7-Nanometer-Prozess gefertigt. Die 5G Version ist leicht schneller getaktet (2 der 3 Cluster) und integriert das Balong 5G Modem.

Kirin 9000: ARM-basierter Octa-Core-SoC (4x Cortex-A77 mit bis zu 3,1 GHz + 4x Cortex-A55 mit bis zu 2 GHz) und Nachfolger des Kirin 990. Integriert eine Mali-G78 MP24 GPU und wird in einem 5-Nanometer-Prozess gefertigt. Bietet eine sehr schnelle CPU-Performance (unter den schnellsten von Android SoCs).

Qualcomm Snapdragon:

SD 888 4G: High-End SoC (System on a Chip) für Smartphones welcher Ende 2020 vorgestellt wurde. Integriert unter anderen einen schnellen Cortex-X1 "Prime Core" mit bis zu 2,84 GHz und drei weitere schnelle Cortex-A78 basierende Performance-Kerne. Zum Stromsparen wurden außerdem 4 weitere ARM Cortex-A55 Kerne verbaut. Integriert im Unterschied zur 5G Version nur ein 4G Modem, WiFi 6e und eine Hexagon 780 AI Engine mit bis zu 26 TOPS.

8.00: Bei dieser Display-Größe stehen große Smartphones und ein paar kleine Tablets zur Verfügung. Anders als bei den meisten Smartphones sieht man mehr am Bildschirm, mehr Details und kann größere Auflösungen nutzen. Für fehlsichtige Menschen sind solche Formate besser. In der Hosentasche sind solche Geräte aber nicht mehr leicht unterzubringen und ganz leicht sind sie wohl auch nicht.
