EN→DE Archive.org versionThe LG Gram 17 is an impressive display of what laptop makers can achieve if they focused solely on shaving pounds and inches. It’s incredibly thin and light for something packing a 17-inch screen, and is a gorgeous canvas for movies and multitasking. But it lacks the power you’d need for taxing tasks like video editing or serious gaming -- things people actually want a big screen for. If you’re looking for a big laptop to carry around when you travel, but don’t need it to handle anything too demanding, the Gram 17 is a solid choice. But most people would be better served by a more powerful 15-inch notebook.

EN→DE Archive.org versionAlthough LG offers lots of laptops in which portability is the primary selling point, the LG Gram 17 is the ultimate manifestation. There’s nothing else like it on the market, and it’s mostly a joy to use despite a middling keyboard and awful speakers. We expect prices on laptops with 8th-generation Intel Core CPUs to drop as laptops powered by 10th-generation chips hit the market, so now might be the perfect time to snag this unique thin-and-light.

EN→DE Archive.org versionThe LG gram 17 is an excellent laptop, partly because it offers something you can't really find elsewhere. This is a huge laptop that you can actually take around with you, and also has great battery life. There's more to like including decent performance and a nice range of ports.

EN→DE Archive.org versionLG's Gram 17, astonishingly light for a 17-inch laptop, delivers excellent battery life and a glorious screen. But the relatively high price, the plain design, and some quibbles with the keyboard and touchpad keep it from stardom.

EN→DE Archive.org versionThe Gram 17 is wholly unique on the laptop market, but that also means it’s for a very specific person. A giant screen — even if it can’t be used for super intensive PC tasks — in this unbelievably light package will justify the $1,700 price for some. If you can go smaller, you’ve got no shortage of more powerful (and less flexible) laptops from Microsoft, HP, Dell, Asus, and others to choose from. But the 17-inch Gram is the sort of computer that’s hard to forget after you’ve used it for a bit. If your brain doesn’t remind you of what could’ve been, your back will.

EN→DE Archive.org versionIn the end, the only things that count against the gram 17 are its below average performance (due to the use of single-channel memory), its high price, and the fact that it is still a large notebook due to the screen size. However, its expansive and gorgeous display and its incredible lightweight are probably enough to make most users forget about its shortcomings.

EN→DE Archive.org versionAs was the case with the 15.6-inch Gram 15, if you want a large screen, long battery life and the lightest travel weight possible, the Gram 17 is the answer. It is nothing short of amazing that LG can keep the body so light while maintaining performance and battery life. LG must agree, too, given its $1,700 price. It has a couple of shortcomings like the keyboard and speakers, but otherwise, LG's made another solid big screen ultraportable laptop, even if it doesn't necessarily feel "solid."

EN→DE Archive.org versionThe LG Gram 17 is the very best 17-inch lifestyle laptop on the market thanks to its outstandingly lightweight frame and stellar performance. However, sluggish SSD speeds, stingy storage and a middling battery life prevent it from attaining a perfect score.

EN→DE Archive.org versionYou wouldn't buy this machine just for the weight though. After all, the smaller gram models are lighter. The 15-inch model from last year is just 2.4 pounds, and the gram 14 2-in-1 is just over 2.5 pounds. If you go the 13-inch route, which hasn't been refreshed in a while, it's just 2.1 pounds. You'll have to want the big screen as well. On top of that, you get a real keyboard, a full 15W quad-core Core i7, 16GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD. There's not much else that you can ask for in a portable PC that's just so light. At $1,699.99, the LG gram 17 is definitely a buy, if this sounds like the type of PC that you're looking for.

EN→DE Archive.org versionWith people craving ultra-portable devices these days, the 17-inch lifestyle laptop has recently been left on the scrap heap. LG has a serious chance of changing this by offering a super-powered portable that weighs an astonishing 1340g.
