Nun stehen die brandneuen Navi-14-Grafikchips am Start, die in dem bisher von Nvidia okupiertem Mittelklassesegment wertvolle Marktanteile erobern sollen und, für den Konsumenten viel entscheidender, erstmals seit Jahren wieder für eine Wahlmöglichkeit sorgen. Wir hatten eines der ersten kommenden All-AMD-Notebooks im Test.

You can even upgrade it with cheap SATA SSDs to bump up the storage in case 512GB isn’t enough for you. The chassis which all of that comes in may be a point of contention, as the liberal use of plastic and bulky form factor does lessen the appeal. I must mention that while its mainly made of plastic, it is one of the most solid laptops I have played with recently. For an affordable mid-range gaming laptop, I believe the MSI Alpha 15 ticks all the right boxes as it is.

Mit dem MSI Alpha 15 A3DDK, einem Mid-Range-Notebook, ist MSI der neueste Spieler auf dem Gaming-Laptop-Markt. Das 15,6-Zoll-Display bietet ein großartiges Benutzererlebnis, die durchschnittliche Bildschirmhelligkeit entspricht allen Erwartungen. Allerdings ist der Bildschirm für manche zu hell im Vergleich zu anderen Modellen. Wie man die voreingestellte Helligkeit empfindet ist jedoch vollkommen subjektiv und hängt von den Vorlieben des Nutzers ab.
Das Alpha 15 sieht mit dem mattschwarzen Gehäuse und den charakteristischen MSI-Kanten elegant und präsentabel aus. Der grüne Vogel mit roten Augen auf dem Aluminium-Deckel überraschte die meisten MSI-Fans, da MSI zum ersten Mal den Drachen ausgetauscht hat, der früher das Zeichen der Firma war. Wenn das Alpha 15 geöffnet ist, wirkt es wie ein Geschäfts-Notebook. Die dünne dunkelgraue Bildschirmeinfassung trägt zweifellos dazu bei. Der Bildschirm kann mit einer Hand um bis zu 160 Grad geöffnet werden, der Deckel ist ebenfalls recht stabil.
Die beleuchteten USB-Anschlüsse und die Tastatur mit RGB-Beleuchtung sind offenkundig etwas, was man bei diesem Modell besonders schätzen kann. Das Alpha 15 A3DDK hat eine hinterleuchtete Chiclet-Tastatur mit leicht runden Tasten, die mittleren Hub und klare Druckpunkte haben, was für Bequemlichkeit wichtig ist. Abgesehen von der Tastatur verfügt dieser Laptop noch über ein Multi-Touch-Trackpad, das groß genug für Gesten mit mehreren Fingern ist. Die glatte Oberfläche ist ein zusätzlicher Bonus, weil man unbehindert wischen und scrollen kann. Dies trägt ebenfalls zum Komfort beim Benutzen dieses Notebooks bei.
Bei den USB-Anschlüssen des Alpha 15 handelt es sich spezifischer um drei Typ-A-Anschlüsse und einen Typ-C-Anschluss mit USB-3.2-Standard erster Generation. Außerdem gibt es eine HDMI-Schnittstelle und einen Mini-DisplayPort, für Mikrofon und Kopfhörer stehen separate Anschlüsse zur Verfügung. Zusätzlich kann man ein Gigabit-Ethernet-Kabel anschließen. Trotz dieser großen Auswahl gibt es keine Thunderbolt-3-Anschlüsse, was ein Nachteil ist, weil man somit keine leistungsstärkere externe GPU anschließen kann. Für Gamer, die das Alpha 15 als nächstes Gaming-Notebook in Betracht ziehen, ist das womöglich keine gute Neuigkeit. Das Alpha 15 A3DDK hat es trotz eines guten Displays und einer tollen Tastatur nicht auf die Bestenlisten geschafft. Dies ist auf die mittelmäßige Leistung zurückzuführen. Die AMD Radeon 7 3750H CPU mit 16 GB Arbeitsspeicher liefert zwar genug Leistung für einfache Aufgaben und gelegentliches Gaming, mehr aber auch nicht.

AMD Radeon RX 5500M: Mobile Mittelklassegrafikkarte und Gegner der GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Basiert auf die aktuelle Navi Architektur in 7nm und bietet 1408 Kerne bei 1645 MHz und schnellen 14 Gbps GDDR6 Grafikspeicher.
Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
