Though thicker and heavier than the fondleslab-norm the Slider makes a lot of sense if you intend to do any serious typing or are always looking for a way to prop your tablet up while watching a video, making a Skype video call or reading a book. It’s a bit of shame it has taken so long to make it to the UK market and that it’s rather expensive but it still makes sense for anyone who wants an Android tablet for productivity as much as fun.

The Asus Eee Pad Slider's keyboard sets it apart from the handful of Android Honeycomb tablets that can only clearly be separated by a few minor aesthetic differences and connectivity tweaks. It's one of the most interesting Android tablets of the year and it's not just a design gimmick. The added size and weight of the keyboard will severely limit the audience for this device, unlike the more versatile Eee Pad Transformer. But if this kind of home-bound tablet is what you're after, the great screen, smooth performance and good execution of the unusual design makes it worth a round of applause. However, we can't help but wish it had arrived a few months earlier, now the Transformer Prime is nearing release.

The Eee Pad Slider would be brilliant if it somehow integrated a large and comfortable keyboard into a light and inexpensive tablet. What we get instead is a tablet with a rather mediocre built-in keyboard that isn't worth the significant bulk and weight that it adds. As a result, it's not very good either as a straight tablet or as a keyboard-equipped tablet. If you need a regular tablet, the Apple iPad 2 remains the better product. However, if you need a keyboard on a regular basis, the Eee Pad Transformer and its keyboard dock is better and cheaper than the Eee Pad Slider.

3D Spiele sind auf diesen Vertretern nur in Ausnahmen spielbar, grundsätzlich sind die Grafikkarten hierfür jedoch nicht geeignet. Office Programme und Internet surfen dürfte jedoch ohne Problem laufen.

10.1": Es handelt sich um ein kleines Displayformat für Subnotebooks bzw. sind 10 Zoll das Standardformat für Netbooks. Der Vorteil der Mini-Notebooks liegt darin, dass das Gerät klein dimensioniert sein kann und daher leicht tragbar ist. Das vergleichsweise kleine Display hat noch den Vorteil wenig Strom zu benötigen, was die Akkulaufzeit und damit die Mobilität weiter verbessert. Der Nachteil ist, dass das Lesen von Texten relativ anstrengend für die Augen ist. Hohe Auflösungen sind nur bedingt nutzbar wegen zu kleiner Schrift- und Icongröße.
