Nvidia möchte das Ultra in Ultrabooks mit der GeForce GT 640M bringen - so die markante PR-Aussage. Die Performance spricht für diese Aussage ein deutliches Machtwort. Die Grafikleistung der GT 640M ist beachtlich, und auch der Stromverbrauch bleibt im Rahmen. Mit den bis jetzt getesteten Ultrabook-Subnotebooks hat das Acer mit seinem DVD-Laufwerk und 15-Zoll-Bildschirm jedoch wenig gemeinsam.

The Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3 is a very good notebook overall, offering exceptional performance and battery life. It's also well built and stylish. However, we wish it had some ports on the sides and that there was a little more room for the left palm rest.

With the Ultra M3, Acer has delivered some serious computing power in an incredibly thin package. In our opinion, it's simply too big to be evaluated as a true Ultrabook, though it is thinner and lighter than typical 15-inch laptops. Its high-end internals allow for some noteworthy performance, but its plastic construction and shoddy screen scream low-end, making it a bit of a paradox.

While it's already been proven that you can cram very good graphics and battery life into a thin 15-inch system, the Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3 takes it to the next level. Nvidia's next-generation GeForce GT640M GPU can hang with the best of them, letting you play the latest games anywhere. The audio is also quite satisfying. We only wish the M3 had a display that could better show off all that the GPU is capable of doing and that the ports were more easily accessible.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M: Mittelklasse-Grafikkarte der 600M Serie.

Diese Klasse ist noch durchaus fähig neueste Spiele flüssig darzustellen, nur nicht mehr mit allen Details und in hohen Auflösungen. Besonders anspruchsvolle Spiele laufen nur in minimalen Detailstufen, wodurch die grafische Qualität oft deutlich leidet. Diese Klasse ist nur noch für Gelegenheitsspieler empfehlenswert. Der Stromverbrauch von modernen Grafikkarten in dieser Klasse ist dafür geringer und erlaubt auch bessere Akkulaufzeiten.
