Das Flaggschiff der Fire-Serie ist eine echte Alternative: starke Grafik, flotte Performance, mit und ohne Kabel kommunikativ – und vor allem ausdauernd. Auch bei der Hauptkamera auf der Rückseite (8 Megapixel) war Amazon nicht kleinlich und hat eine LED zur Ausleuchtung spendiert. Die Frontkamera löst mit 1 knappen Megapixel auf, was zum Chatten reicht.
Pro: 4K-Display; 8-Megapixel-Kamera mit LED und Bildstabilisierung; bis zu 64 GB Speicher; wertige Optik; sehr gute Verarbeitung; leicht; Schnellladegerät; mehrere Erwachsenen- und Kinderprofile. Contra: keine Speichererweiterung; geringere App-Auswahl gegenüber Android.

As a media and all-round entertainment machine, the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 is a solid rival for the iPad Air 2. However, there is a caveat, and that’s the tablet’s deep roots in Amazon’s ecosystem. Prime members will delight in the Instant Video integration while anyone with a sizeable Kindle library can access all of their books with a tap, but anyone less convinced should maybe look elsewhere.

Good things about the new HDX 8.9: great screen, excellent battery life, quick-as-blazes processor and superb graphics. The speakers are very good too. Bad things: no Google apps, no Google Play Store, no storage expansion and Fire OS, even in its latest iteration, looks a wee bit dated compared with stock Android even if it is piss-easy to use. Impressive the hardware aside, as with the Fire Phone the more in bed you are with Amazon as a content provider the more you’ll get on with, and out of, the new Fire HDX 8.9.

In the end, if you’re not dissuaded by some of the limitations of Amazon’s Fire OS and, better still, if you’re an Amazon Prime subscriber or buy a lot of content from Amazon such as Kindle eBooks, the new Fire HDX 8.9 is by far the best tablet Amazon has produced to date. Its battery life is incredible, its display is fantastic and it looks and feels great in your hands.

Unlimited cloud storage for Amazon content makes the 16GB version doable. 24/7 video help. Firefly is neat-o. App ecosystem lags behind iOS and Android, and Google apps could fill in big gaps. The best deal is an 16GB version with lock-screen ads, but the an ad-free 32GB HDX jumps up to $444. Doesn’t look any different than the last one. Firefly doesn’t always work.

The 2014 Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, much like last year’s model, is a great tablet for entertainment. That's really where it excels. It ticks those all-important boxes you want in a larger tablet as well: it’s light and comfortable to use, has fantastic speakers and a gorgeous screen. The new Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 sticks with much of the same great hardware but with a few improvements that make it a fantastic tablet for video and reading. Its only downfall is an operating system that still needs some fine-tuning.

Amazon's updated 2014 Fire HDX 8.9-inch tablet seems to be a bit of a reactionary one. The device hasn't really changed much other than a faster processor and improved networking. Meanwhile, the competition has made some significant changes. This is still a good tablet, just not as great as it was when first released.

In using the HDX 8.9, I find myself able to do core things I want in a tablet, like email or gaming, and watching movies is a breeze. The screen on the HDX 8.9 is phenomenal, which only makes you want to watch movies and TV on it. The touchscreen is responsive, too. Interacting with the device is a pleasure.

Modell: Das Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 inch 2014 wurde als Alleskönner-Tablet entwickelt und ist aktuell das leistungsstärkste Tablet von Amazon. Mit seinem Gehäuse aus Magnesium-Legierung und einfachem schwarzen Farbschema wurde es robust designed. Das Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 inch 2014 sieht definitiv gut aus und fühlt sich in der Hand gut an. Die Rückseite beherbergt die Kamera und die Lautsprechergrille während das glänzende Amazon-Markenzeichen im Körper eingeprägt wurde. Das mit 388 g überraschend leichte Tablet bringt einen wunderschönen 8,9 Zoll großen LCD-Bildschirm mit einer Pixeldichte von 399 ppi und Multi-Touch-Support.

In puncto Kommunikationsausstattung kann man zwischen zwei Modellen wählen: nur mit WiFi oder ein 4G-Model mit micro-SIM-Slot. Die Fire OS 4 Sangria Benutzerschnittstelle wurde über Android 4.4 KitKat gelegt und sorgt für flüssige Operation und einfache Navigation. Die Hardware des Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 inch 2014 besteht aus einem Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 Quad-Core-Prozessor mit 2.5 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Adreno 420 GPU und einigen Optionen bezüglich Speicherausstattung von 16 GB bis 64 GB. Dank von Dolby Atmos-Technolgie angetriebener Stereo-Lautsprecher ist die Audioqualität gut. Es gibt eine 8 MP Primärkamera und eine sekundäre 720p-Kamera an  der Vorderseite. Das Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 inch 2014 wird durch einen nicht entfernbaren Lithium-Ionen Akku, der für bis zu 12 Stunden Sprechzeit sorgt, mit Strom versorgt.

Qualcomm Adreno 420: Grafikchips für Smartphones und Tablets, integriert im Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 SoC.

Einige nicht anspruchsvolle aktuelle Spiele können mit geringen Details noch flüssig gespielt werden. Für Office und Video natürlich ausreichende Leistungsreserven.

8.90": Bei dieser Display-Größe stehen große Smartphones und ein paar kleine Tablets zur Verfügung. Anders als bei den meisten Smartphones sieht man mehr am Bildschirm, mehr Details und kann größere Auflösungen nutzen. Für fehlsichtige Menschen sind solche Formate besser.
