Das Fire HD 10 von Amazon ist ein ziemliches Peis-Leistungs-Schnäppchen. Es ist – gerade in immer mal wieder aufkommenden Angeboten – günstig, bietet ordentliche Performance, hat ein nicht übermäßig helles, aber sonst sehr gutes Display und bringt Alexa gleich mit, die auch im Show-Modus verwendbar ist.

Im Oktober hatte Amazon eine Neuauflage des auch weiterhin beliebten Fire HD 10 vorgestellt. Amazon verspricht hier eine deutlich verbesserte Performance, außerdem ist Alexa mit sogenanntem Hands-Free-Modus integriert, sodass die Sprachassistentin direkt mit der Stimme aktiviert werden kann.

Amazon Fire HD 10 2019 Test: Das Amazon Fire HD 10 ist das günstigste 10 Zoll Tablet, das ich bedenkenlos empfehlen kann. Es bietet ein schickes Display, eine für den Preis sehr gute Grafikleistung und eine lange Akkulaufzeit. Für Prime Mitglieder ist die tiefe Integration von Amazons Angeboten interessant, sonst nervt es eher.

Das neue Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet aus dem Jahr 2019 ist genau das, was es sein will: Ein Unter­haltungs-Tablet fürs Inter­netsurfen und Anschauen von Fotos und Videos, und zwar über­wiegend zuhause. Wer es unter­wegs mitnehmen will, muss mangels SIM-Karten-Slot den Hotspot des Smart­phones öffnen. Die Leis­tung des Tablets reicht auch für gele­gent­liche Spiele problemlos und der Akku hält locker für einen Tag. Der Hands-free-Modus soll eigent­lich die Vorzüge der Alexa-Sprach­steue­rung in den Vorder­grund rücken - doch damit waren wir im Test nicht zufrieden. Auch die 2-Mega­pixel-Kameras sind nicht mehr aktuell.

It's hard to hate the Fire HD 10. Yes, it costs $100 more than the popular Fire 7, but I've got them sitting next to each other in front of me, and I'd never give the cheaper one as a gift to a relative, but rather invest a little more to make sure their favorite TV shows look better and their tablet lasts for longer.

The updates, including better battery life, faster processor and USB-C charging are all welcome, and we’re fans of the new white model. As ever, bear in mind the absence of Google apps and services, but so long as you’re happy to use their web versions, or jump through a few hoops to install the Google Play Store, it’s a great-value choice.

But you can’t complain about the hardware you get for the cash. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A is perhaps the most obvious recent alternative. It comes with Google Play and also has a 1200p screen. However, it costs £50 more and has a significantly weaker processor.

Too many top Android games aren’t available, including PUBG, Asphalt 9 and Call of Duty: Mobile. Capable techies may be able to “hack” Google Play onto this tablet, but that crowd and the usual Amazon Fire tablet audience are worlds apart.

A new port here, a battery improvement there, a software feature on top. It’s not a massive change over Fire HD 10 Tablets that have preceded it, but nevertheless 2019’s slate is looking better than any Amazon has put out before. The jump to USB-C is smart, the price remains attractive, and, as the years have rolled on, the Fire OS skin has become more palatable, even if it remains a walled-garden into Amazon’s world. Given the price tag, you could do much, much worse. Keep an eye out for our final verdict soon.
